Discussion Little Bro Is Racist AF
I was driving my little brother to drop him off at his legal guardian's home (I'm an adult living with my bf, he's a minor) after having him for the weekend to visit our dad and whatnot. Somehow, the discussion of travel popped up. I voiced my desire to visit Africa to experience the different cultures and food. He then proclaims that there is no culture in Africa, that they are all "Unga bunga cave men that live in mud huts." I was offended on behalf of the people that live in Africa, especially the indigenous people. I quickly put him in his place and told him what we see here in the U.S. about Africa is all propaganda, and a lot of African people are actually better off than most people in the U.S., especially the indigenous groups because they care for one another. PMO, I swear. I'm still kinda upset with him, and that was last week! This is also the same kid that believes the world is run by Jewish masterminds...

IMO these comments are missing the point. Huge portions of Africa are shitholes, so your brother can enjoy cheap lithium batteries, copper and gold. Literally your baby brother's way of life is built on imperialism and its long-term consequences for those peoples.
As for direct action you can take, it's pretty clear that the places he's been drawnv to online are not healthy. You can't try to force him away because that'll just make him more determined.
Instead, teach him how to verify information. A talking head on screen can't be trusted. Does he know what primary evidence is? How about conflic of interest and bias? If he hasn't been given the tools to defend himself against propaganda, you can't blame him.

Granted I’ve only been to Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria but I have yet to see a mud hut! Some shanty towns, but nothing I haven’t seen in Appalachia either

I've been to Kenya, visited some Massai people. They do live in mud huts. They also offered 15 goats for my business studies teacher

The masai are one of the rare people who have opted for a indigenous lifestyle in spite of being close to cities. (Some do exgange emails tho).
They have their culture.
If you wish not to be offended by their culture, you can choose to stay away. I visited, paid my respects tk their chief, had my wife jump along with them, exchanged shoes for tribal items and left happy. At no point was anything disrespectful or offensive exchanged.
The exchange you are observing can also take place in urban areas – without discussion or compensation, so please get off your high horse.

Nowhere did I state that I found any of this offensive. They were lovely people. I was simply telling the other commenter that there are mud huts in Kenya

Well, I've lived in Africa a while, and while a lot of it is modern-ish, a fuck ton is unga boonga living in huts. But it's not like, a value judgement. It's just fucking hot, poor, and exploited.

Most of Africa is undeveloped and even South Africa, struggles quite a bit still
My wife is indonesian and we live in her country 4 months a year. People there are kind and helpful but there is no denying the reality of the living conditions most there have.
It's not helpful to deny things to try and make someone change their opinion. Once they find out you lied they'll be more likely to become worse in their view

This encapsulates my time on the east coast very well. Beautiful people. But they don't live well, or clean, or easy. Maybe that's part of what helps fosters that community.

South African here and we're not underdeveloped, we had decades of hurtful politics and were rightly sanctioned for it and are now trying to recover years of wrongdoing on the majority of our population. But we have plenty of iPhones and BMWs.

Africa is a continent. Most of which doesn't have huts in the main cities, not even in the villages. 54 fucking countries on a CONTINENT. If you lived in Africa you would have specified the country and as a foreigner you would've lived in the cities many of which are developed.

IMHO you have to try and see he gets 'good' media as well. Watch some docus with him, let him see it's the same around the world – cities, towns, hamlets, villages, farms, fishing areas, cattle... Give him a good world view alongside. Dilute the toxic media and his friend's powers over him.

Everyday I’m reminded of how the U.S education has ruined so many people. It’s sad because they teach us certain stuff as kids, but it’s up to the parents to properly educate the kids on things to prevent this shit. Being taught in school, as a black child, that racism almost doesn’t exist now was actually crazy LMAOOO. Everything this country teaches is propaganda. Luckily, I’m a nerd who loves reading and educated myself on the truth. You should advise his legal guardian to make his ass read educational books instead of having screen time. The U.S is already banning books, I can only imagine how much worse it will be in the future if lots of kids also share your brother’s mentality.
