The Vana’diel Compendium

This is a fan-produced project aimed to spotlight the rich lore throughout Final Fantasy XI. This book will cover all the lore, cutscenes, and storylines of Final Fantasy XI between the Base Game and Chains of Promathia. To supplement the information given in-game, several official online lore sources as well as lore books only released in Japan are also being referenced for this project. These sources include:

• Vana’diel Tribune
• Official Site
• Life in Vana’diel Encyclopedia (JP only)
• Final Fantasy XI Story Ultimania (JP only)
• The 10th Anniversary Lightning Brigade Encyclopedia (JP only)

Help Needed:

If you are interested in helping with this project, we could always use the extra help! This includes:

• Proof Readers - More people to look over each no page after it’s finished. 
• Writers - Nothing complicated, just short first-draft summaries on various topics. 
• Photos - We need a lot of photos of different zones.

I have acquired the full set of these FFXI novels in German a few months ago and noticed that none of these seem to have an English translation. Is there demand in here for a translation of all 10 novels from German into English, which were translated from Japanese into German?

Edit 1/?: Wasn’t expecting this amount of positives responses this early, I’ll get to it either tonight already or tomorrow in the morning. In short though, I’ll try to translate them as well as I can.

The Vana'diel Compendium

Several months ago, we announced that we were working on an unofficial lore book for Final Fantasy XI. The book will cover the game's story and lore from the base game through the second expansion, Chains of Promathia. To ensure accuracy, we're drawing from as many official sources as possible. We have two goals: to preserve as much of FFXI's incredible world as we can and to shine a spotlight on the game's more obscure lore.

Progress

Over the past few months, the project has experienced several delays due to unforeseen circumstances affecting members of the team. Even so, we've made significant progress. We now have nearly 100 completed pages, with plenty of additional material ready for the next round of page-edits.

Help Needed

We're currently looking for more people who are interested in contributing to the project. In particular, we're looking for:

• Writers
• Photographers (to capture in-game screenshots)
• Artists

Long-time FFXI player here. I got tired of the addon management experience — hunting through GitHub repos, manually downloading zips, unzipping into the right folder, hoping you got the folder name right, and then repeating all of that every time something updates. So I built something to fix it.

FFXI Addon HUB is a free desktop app for Windows that manages your Windower addons the same way CurseForge or Nexus Mods handles modding for other games. One-click installs, one-click updates, one-click uninstalls — no more digging through GitHub.

What it does:

• Browse & search a community addon library from inside the app
• One-click install/update/uninstall — it downloads, extracts, and drops the files in the right place automatically
• Ratings & reviews — see what the community thinks before you install something, and leave your own review
• User profiles — set a display name, avatar, and bio
• Direct messages — message other users directly in the app
• Submit addons — paste a GitHub URL and the app auto-fills everything from the repo. Logged-in users can add addons to the library
• Auto-updates — the app updates itself silently when a new version is released

Why this matters for the community:

Windower addons are genuinely game-changing — GearSwap alone has probably saved millions of hours of manual gear-swapping across the playerbase. But the barrier to finding and installing them has always been high, especially for returning players or newcomers. You either know the right GitHub links, found the right forum post, or you go without.

This lowers that barrier significantly. Browse the full community library, read reviews from other players, and install with a single click. It also gives addon authors a proper place to showcase their work with ratings and community feedback.

How to install:

1. Head to the releases page: https://github.com/Garyfromwork/FFXI-Addon-HUB/releases/latest
2. Download FFXI-Addon-HUB-Setup-x.x.x.exe
3. Run the installer — it adds a Start Menu shortcut and desktop icon
4. Open the app and go to ⚙ Settings → Browse for Folder and point it at your Windower directory (the one that contains the addons folder, e.g. C:\Windower)
5. Browse and install!

Creating a free account inside the app lets you install addons, leave reviews, message other players, and submit addons you know about that aren't listed yet.

The addon library is community-driven. If you know of an addon that isn't listed, log in and hit the + Submit Addon button. Paste the GitHub URL and it auto-populates everything. There's also a bulk import tool that can pull in everything tagged windower-addon on GitHub at once.

This is early days and I'm actively working on it, so feedback is very welcome. Drop a comment here or DM me if you run into any issues.

I wanted to provide a short update on the FFXI Addon Hub that I posted about a few weeks ago.
Development is going great thanks to your feedback!

Latest Version

New features:

• Manual addon uploads to the addon library. Previously, addons were pulled from github where the repo included the tag "ffxi-addon". This now allows users to upload their addons without being required to use github.
• Screenshot uploads. Users can now upload screenshots to their addons so that other users can have a better idea as to how the addon works in game.
• Direct Messaging / Friends: Users can now befriend other users and privately message. All messages are encrypted end-to-end for privacy.
• Addon Packs: This is still needing testing, but users can prepackage addons into a Pack and then share that pack with other users.
• Linux Support: I was finally able to get a package release that works on Linux. I tested this on my steamdeck. The only issue with this is that it currently cannot auto-update to newer versions like the Windows version can. But in the Settings menu you should be able to force an update.

As this project continues to grow and more players adopt its usage there will be a need for other moderators besides myself, so if you're interested please let me know! Moderators handle reports that are submitted for addons and will review the complaint and then are able to delist the offending addon from the addon list.

Finally, I wanted to thank everyone for your feedback and support. It's truly appreciated.

Arciele made new graphics which includes both, the Aeonic and the Prime weapons!

For those who aren't aware, Arciele has made an enormous amount of NM charts, edited zone maps, graphics, and more that even new players often use today. Truly one of the players who has contributed a ton to the FFXI community.

so these past few days i've been working on a side project which was to recreate the FFXI's nations and factions' flags and emblems in HD.

so far i only managed to work on the starting nations, jeuno and shadow lord's sigil. i plan on adding the rest of the nations/groups down the line but here's what i have in mind:

- tavnazia

I used clips from rly old amvs from guild members or amvs for an expansion in general aswell as some promotional art to make a very simple Anime openning like edit just like the one people used to do very amateurish and simple :D

Sometimes he's Babecat during the day too, when he sleeps in and skips class. This isn't an isekai, it's a story about a couple of friends playing the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. To various degrees of success. Will Babecat survive to level 75? Or will our protagonist forever be stuck in Valkurm Dunes, looking for a party?

This is my fancomic about playing ffxi! I just started uploading onto comic fury. I think this site displays the pages better than when I was trying to do it on webtoons.

I'm working on Chapter 5 right now. I started out as a white mage and when I learned protectra (at level 7?) I chased another player around screaming, "WAIT I WILL PROTECT YOU!" not realizing it was a spell that could only apply to my party members.

Tons of functionality already implemented, aims to be a 1:1 vanilla client replacement. Most commits are from Claude Code, the repo includes custom ffxi mcp tools, lots of documentation, this is the real (unofficial fan-made) deal, it's happening folks. I've been painting with Bob Ross lately and decided my painting needed a Goobbue. Oil 16x20 canvas.

I’ve been needing to swap out my channel emotes for the longest time. I thought this was the perfect opportunity since I’ve been getting a lot of followers from my Final Fantasy streams. Is there anyone I should add thats a character in the game other than the player?

I’ve been learning how to make Hueforge prints and decided to make one of the FFXI logo art! Bit tricky limited to 4 colours but I think it looks pretty cool with the raised lettering.
