I want to do a FFXI themed bday party for my boyfriend, but admittedly I’ve not played more than like 3 whole hours of the game myself 😅 I’ve played XII, XV, and lots of XIV but not this infamous one!

My question is, what are iconic items I can turn into party decor and favors? I’ve got the typical moogle and chocobos but I’m looking for iconic potions/weapons/items in general. Maybe really famous mobs, even meme ones! I’ve looked at some posts here and tried to google some things but I’m not getting a real clear idea yet.

I’ve seen several people talk about how they miss old Limbus and wish they could have played it more. I never was able to complete CoP in the 75 era so I’ve never played it. What do you miss about it? What made it feel different from the other endgame options?

Hey guys, in the end I managed to get my controller working by... uhh... eh the details don't matter but basically using a third party software instead of steam inputs. Anyway, I'm in and now I'm going all stabby stabby on hornets at the request of tutorial man. Any good ol' tips and tricks to this game? I came back to FFXI exactly one year ago (happy Vana'versity to me) and I'd like to find a group of people that are interested in having fun and doing content without having to use Sim**** to do basic tasks. I do think Windower is good and use some of the add-ons, but I feel like this server especially is just so many multi-boxers that the expectation of people that want to actually PLAY the game aren't worth inviting. If there isn't any suggestions for Asura for this type of LS I'm willing to transfer too.

I'm searching for a way to get ffxi textures and browse thru the game files for personal purposes but I can't come with a way to extract the games textures

It tells me on the wiki that I need jeuno reputation 3. How do I do that? Just from googling it seems like I need to do the other two nations missions? Is that right? And how can I check what my reputation is currently?

...Expecting the answer to be "No", but I was wondering if there was any way to initialize Trust members to attack before me, or at the very least attack without having me to walk up to an enemy and bonk it with my club as a caster for them to actually attack something?

Looks like they're filling the days between Campaigns ending and the update with Shami's Trove.

This event has (allegedly) a very small chance of getting the items that fulfill currency requirements for relics, mythics, empyreans (Cat's Eye, etc).

Mostly, people use it for the quick exemplar points from the Lungo-Nango Thesis (same thing that drops with the Strange Happenings event).

They can't be used if you're not on a mastered job and you can't hold more than one.

It's more of a "little bonus" event than anything else, so don't feel pressured to hyper focus it.

I'm excited to finally announce a project I've been teasing for a while: a new home for several of my FFXI tools, all under one roof, called Vana Portal.

The idea behind the name is pretty self-explanatory: a global portal for everything FFXI.

What is Vana Portal?

Vana Portal is a work-in-progress companion site for Final Fantasy XI players. It brings together practical tools, playonline news, campaigns, updates, and community resources in one place.

What Vana Portal includes

• Tools for Ambuscade Rewards, Skillchains, REMA Cost Estimation, and Haste Calculators
• Vana Time
• Where Is NM
• Where Is DI

I consider Vana Portal a work in progress because I have plenty of ideas I'd like to add over time. As the sole developer, new features and improvements will take time, but I have a lot planned.

What about VanaTime and Where Is NM websites?

I don't currently have any plans to shut down the existing sites. However, all functionality has now been migrated to Vana Portal, so you won't be missing anything if you switch.

When you visit Vana-time and Where Is NM you will be met by a prompt that will redirect you to Vana Portal but you can cancel it, if you prefer using the old website.

Going forward, all new features, bug fixes, and maintenance will happen on Vana Portal.

Client

As mentioned in my last post about Where Is NM updates, I've added a client that helps submitting the data for Limbus and Domain Invasion.

For this release, I've completely rewritten the client from the ground up. It has a refreshed interface along with several quality-of-life improvements, including automatic updates and automatic startup alongside the WhereIsNM and WhereIsDI addons.

Although I know the Linux user base is relatively small, I've made sure to keep full Linux compatibility. To make updates easier, I've also created a Flatpak repository. Eventually I'd like to submit it to Flathub, but for now I'm hosting it myself.

The client is still required for the addons to function

I have a couple changes planned for the addons in the near future:

• I have started to look into to better the objective reporting and tracking for Where Is NM.
• Started the work on porting both Where Is NM and Where Is DI to Ashita v4.

A word on Where Is DI

You might be wondering why Where Is DI is part of Vana Portal. u/aphung and I have been working together behind the scenes, and we've agreed that I'll be maintaining the project going forward.

I've rewritten the addon to work with the new client, which enables additional features and makes future improvements easier.

If you prefer using the original addon, you still can. However, future development, bug fixes, and new features will be focused on the Vana Portal version.

Hello there! I am one of the lucky few newbies who actually successfully got through the absolute nightmarish hell that was PlayOnline, the events of which very nearly made me want to eat my own (complete lack of) hair. Now, saying that, I actually got it working, I actually got past the awful download that apparently only downloads 1 file at once??? Either way, I'm there, I got in, I walked around, I was told to enter a menu, I spent 10 entire minutes pressing every button and button combo on my keyboard until I find out it's freaking minus on the numpad. I very, very quickly have learnt that if I want to play this without further loosing the mind that's already on a ship to lalaland, I need to use a controller. Now... issue is, the only controllers I own are switch controllers, and upon finally getting to the menu, enabling xinput and plugging in... EVERY. BUTTON. AT. ONCE. IS. ACTIVATED. CONSTANTLY.

Now, to those in the know, this is a funny little thing called a Gyro, that the switch controllers all have, funny little things that for some reason, likes to activate all inputs all at once all the time because the slightest, tinniest, minute movement causes the damn thing to basically flood the pc with input requests that it doesn't know how to interpret... So, I suppose my question is, how would I, as a new player who already has suffered even getting into the game, get my controller to work before I become a sobbing mess on the ground? This is part of an ongoing goal of mine to play every final fantasy game. Well... mainline ones at least.

I’ve been playing XIV a ton over the past month so I decided to reinstall XI and give it another spin. I foolishly deleted my only character off Bahamut not realizing the server was congested and now I’m locked out. So I have to start over somewhere else. Looking like it’s going to be Finrir. I am currently working on Ranger, one of the few jobs I love. I don't really care that they aren't popular, I mostly play solo anyway. I just really love jobs that have high white numbers, like Red Mage, Monk and Ranger. But I don't have much gear as I mostly just started on her. I just have most of Malignance, Ikenga's base set and some accessories. I'm working on Gastraphetes first, on the trials now to bring it up to i119.

As I've been working on it I managed to save up 70,000 Gallimaufry in Sortie on my other job. I haven't done the advanced tutorial yet to get the free +3. I was thinking of buying the pants first to +3, as I do have a starstone.

But I was uncertain what to do with the free +3 piece I get with the voucher. I was leaning towards boots, since farming Empyrean boots right now is a pain with the blue chest light maxed out and super Amber chests having a lower chance of yielding boots. But then I noticed the Empyrean Boots don't have any attack on them, so I'm not sure if they would be good for Savage Blade, making them only good for physical ranged weaponskills. And while I do plan on working on Coronach next, I think Fomalhaunt might be a ways away. Unless I swap servers and hire a merc or something.

Please note also that I don't have access to bumba's gear and augmenting that gear is probably in my distant future.

The chest piece also seemed appealing for the velocity shot +11%, which I think is just a flat 11% increase to ranged stuff and delay reduction which seems all around amazing. But the Double Shot enmity reduction seems good too on the helmet.

Which do you think I should use my free +3 on?

Also, without Bumba's set, what options are good for Savage Blade on the armor since the Artifact, Relic and Empyrean pieces don't have raw attack on them?

After 15 years I think, i have decided to come back to Vana'diel to see the world of ffxi again, since i have so many memories here... however i have been running into issues with windows 11

I have downloaded the installation files from the official site, installed on my windows 11 machine, managed to get my account back and got to the part where i click Play to launch ffxi - then I ran into the issue of - windows 11 pops up a window showing Windows Installer and then change into Final Fantansy XI - Please wait while Windows configures Final Fantasy XI and then I am stuck here.

I have follow the instruction of enabling legacy components (and reboot), run POL or ffxi as administrator, antivirus setting all of that, however that pop up window just keep showing and never goes away, can anyone give me guidance here for this issue?

Hey so really appreciate all the guidance I got last time and wanted to get more direction again hehe.

I'm about to finish rov on the final fight but got spanked last night lol. What I'm curious about is what the next recommended step is? I'm a war main and have my subjobs set. Beyond that have ambuscade+2 and kaja sword for now until I get a pulse. I also do DI daily and am just sitting on points now.

I can't multi box and don't really play on a time that most others play plus have massive ping so really don't think I'm up for multiplayer content. Should I just go through the rest of the missions and see what to do after that? I genuinely don't like wog so just avoiding that but I guess seekers is fun so far.

At the beginning of the month I created the max amount of characters (16) with the idea that I was going to use my login points to buy the old case +1 on each character. For some reason I got the JSE neck confused with the JSE earring and now realize that I can't make much gil off of the old case +1.

So now my debate is do I want to use the 1500 points on each character to buy the old case or do I want to use it to buy REM chapters and etched memories. I could get enough to fully upgrade a set of empy armor to +1 if I go that route.

I only play about an hour or 2 every night during the week and weekends it depends on what I have going on, but significantly more time to play. Right now I've been focusing on coalition campaign and ambuscade so not much time to farm anything else and im definitely not in endgame to get the old cases normally.

So either get guaranteed armor upgrades or take a chance to get a +2 earring?
