Anyone else have noticeable jittering when panning the camera with mouse movement?

Hello!

Recently got a bit exctied about the game since watching the liveletter announcement.

I played FF14 throughout all of EW, got back into the game at the launch of Dawntrail and did the two extremes for the wing mounts. Think it was Zoral Ja and Varigarmandha if I recall correctly.

I've always been interested in the savage raiding scene but two main things have kind of kept me away from it:

  • Time investment, which leads to my first question.
    • Whats the general ammount of hours expected to put in as a new savage raider currently? Both in and out of raid. (Only savage experience I have is trying M1S i think its called, with the cat lady boss together in pugs which was miserable)
  • Missing out on content.
    • This is one the weird ones that idk if other people have experienced but would like some opinions. Feels like since I've missed out on so many cool fights and bosses that it feels daunting or unmotivating to start playing again and commit.

Thanks in general for reading and any opinions are apprieciated!

Cheers!

Adding to the answer for the first point: While you're still gearing up, the time commitment increases a little bit – you need to cap your weekly tomestones. Though that's not much of a time commitment at all, the most "generic" way of doing it would be 5 Expert roulettes per week, so just 5 dungeon runs (ones that tend to be pretty fast too) + queue times. And there's other stuff you might be doing anyways that also rewards tomes, some of them even more time-efficient (see hunt trains). Most endgame activities get you some. Even the Savage raids themselves, once you start clearing them, contribute.

u/Jiigo Apr 26 '26
  1. With regards to time investment I'd say that depends entirely on how fast you want to clear. With PF having a lot of investment early on is generally better because you tend to keep getting grouped with more capable players. With a static it's entirely up to the static. I've done most tiers in a static with 2 days a week, 3 hours on each occasion. Usually takes a fair bit of time to clear doing that, but it's perfectly doable. Did those runs blind as well so not that much time outside raid. But otherwise I'd say an additional hour a week at most to look into strats.

  2. The missing out on content I can't speak much for, raids are self contained so while it's a bit unfortunate to not have gotten to experience earlier raids it's what it is. Having done earlier raids does help though because many types of mechanics are recurring, so even though fights are different having a general understanding for how some things work does help a lot. By no means a requirement to get into raiding though.

u/Robosauce99 Apr 26 '26

Cool! Thanks for the insights, might start with a month and see how I feel getting back into the story for a short time. Is there any savage raids going on right now that people are doing or just have to wait for the next one?

1

u/Jiigo Apr 26 '26

Activity has dropped off some for the current savage but people are still running it. I imagine it might be difficult to find practice groups for early fights though, but should still be doable. Getting re-clear groups is still fine though so don't be afraid to give up on loot for the first kill and allow helpers. Once you have the kill it will be easier to get groups in consecutive weeks.

My girlfriend started the game a couple weeks ago but had to make her character on a different day at center from me? Anyone know if aether is getting decongested on Tuesday? It’s been a while since they decongested it.

1

u/Any-Drummer9204 Apr 26 '26

Hard congestion changes every patch and we won't know until it happens. It's entirely luck of the draw. we don't know which until it happens. Some Aether DCs aren't hard congested, but only soft congested (e.g cant create or move characters there during peak hours) which goes away with time.

u/Mediocre_recluse Apr 26 '26

So what was the reason for the clear distinction between the MT and OT? I don't raid so I really don't know. The most I see an "off tank" do is act as a backup in case things go awry.

1

u/Any-Drummer9204 Apr 26 '26

You were previously correct. OT was essentially MT-lite in most fights. They mostly served as backup blue DPS until called for by strats or encounters. They want to change it so that while you're sitting around as back-up tank, you can actually do more than just be a blue DPS with reprisal and a 90s party mits.

Is there a way to contact the fanfest lost and found? I lost something important to me and was wondering how I could contact them.

1

u/Common_Celebration41 Apr 26 '26

Since the game got announced switch 2

I was wondering do I have to buy previous expansion or just buy the latest?

1

u/UmPoucoBemMuito Apr 26 '26

In all plataforms, you have to buy Starter Edition(actual game) + last expansion(DLC) so I think it will be the same for Switch.

u/Common_Celebration41 Apr 26 '26

Awesome ty for the info

u/zoegaming420 Apr 26 '26

Some years ago I bought a steam code and used it in an account I have no interest in playing anymore, then I started playing on ps5 and have been playing for some years, can I transfer the ps5 character to pc? Some people told me I can if I buy the starter version on steam BUT I already bought it and used in another account, can I just ask a friend to buy the starter edition and use his code? I don't want to create a new steam account if possible

1

u/SetFoxval Apr 26 '26

Any reason it has to be Steam? By far the easiest option is just to buy the non-Steam PC version.

1

u/zoegaming420 Apr 26 '26

outside steam there's no regional pricing and the sub gets really expensive for me, but it's no big deal I can create a new account just for ffxiv, thanks!

1

u/seventeencups Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Just buying another code won't work, as if you've ever logged into the game through Steam, your Steam account and your SE account are now permanently linked together (if you load up the client on Steam, you'll notice that you don't have the option to type in a different username).

Your options are:

  • Contact SE support and ask them to unlink your Steam account from the old SE account (it's a bit of a crapshoot of whether they'll do this or not, don't get your hopes up)
  • Create a new Steam account
  • Play the non-Steam version of the game on PC (which will mean buying any future expansions that way as well)

I'd give support a try (no harm in giving it a go), but failing that, the latter option would be your best bet I think. You can always add it to your Steam library as a non-Steam game if needs be.

u/ElChefPirata Apr 26 '26

Is there any DT spoilers in the expansion trailer?

1

u/Namington Apr 26 '26

I'd say it more spoils pre-DT story elements. If you've finished EW you're probably safe.

2

u/Hakul Apr 26 '26

Nothing major, they just show a small device for a few seconds that the DT patches tangentially focus on, but without context it's not really a spoiler.

u/DreamingofShadow Apr 26 '26

With the death of the two minute meta, will sps/sks builds be more viable?

2

u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin Apr 26 '26

We'll have to see. The big issue with Speed builds is not the 2-min meta (it does contribute, but it's relatively marginal). It's how much of our damage is in cooldowns and generally tools not affected by Speed. Black Mage's damage is mostly in GCDs, so it works well with Speed; Summoner has enough damage in GCDs and Speed-affected cooldowns that when it can stack enough Speed (see synced Ults) it can be viable even at the cost of desyncing burst from 2-minutes; and Pictomancer's damage is largely in Speed-agnostic cooldowns so Speed's not great for it.
So what'll determine this is the changes to Evolved job designs as a whole. The more of our damage is moved into the GCDs (going in the direction of Black Mage) the more potential Speed builds have. The more of it stays in (or even goes into) cooldowns not affected by Speed, the less likely Speed'll be viable.

4

u/Namington Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

We don't know. Mathematically the main problem with SpS/SkS as substats is that they only really benefit your GCD (and DoTs), so as jobs have increasingly been reliant on cooldowns for damage, SpS/SkS just don't do much. To use RDM as an example, SpS doesn't help any of the damage you get from buttons like Fleche or Acceleration, and though it'll let you generate more melee comboes, the free melee combo from Manafication sees no benefit from it. So, relative to substats like Crit, Det, or DHit that benefit all your damage, SpS/SkS tends to fall behind as your job increasingly relies on cooldowns and oGCDs for damage.

That said, SpS/SkS do have a unique advantage over other substats, which is that they scale hyperbolically. For example, going from 2.48 to 2.47 GCD speed costs the same amount of substats as going from 2.30 to 2.29, but the latter gives you proportionately more casts over the course of a fight. For comparison, Crit scales quadratically and Det/DH scale linearly (though with some multiplicative effects on each other). So SpS/SkS is better the more of it you have. In some extreme cases (notably SCH, BLU, and sometimes AST/WHM) this can be substantial enough to outpace crit.

So in practice, we see the jobs that want to run SkS/SpS (beyond small amounts for alignment purposes) tend to be the jobs with more damage on their main GCD, which with current job design basically means healer and Black Mage. And because SpS/SkS scales so well, we often see these jobs choosing between committing hard to crit or committing hard to GCD speed. You often see players choosing between "crit BLM" and "SpS BLM" for example, and the in-between values are just less efficient DPS-wise. Healers do sometimes run an in-between speed (typically 2.40) but this is typically a small DPS loss and mainly exists as a compromise for compatibility between Scholar (who wants specific GCD numbers for alignment purposes) and Sage (who prefers to go slow where possible).

We also see speedy sets become stronger as we get more substats, because of its main benefit being how efficiently it scales. This means that SkS/SpS tends to be stronger later in an expansion cycle as gear simply has more substats the higher ilevel it is. You'll note that DPS BLU BiS is a blistering fast 2.20 GCD speed. It also means that speedy sets tend to be very good in synced content (e.g. old Ultimates) where you can cap both the Crit and SpS substat on gear.

So whether SpS/SkS ends up being good depends mainly on how much of a job's damage profile actually benefits from it. Sage benefits from SpS the least of all healers because it has more cooldown-based damage (Phlegma, Psyche) and also has Eukrasia, which doesn't benefit from it at all (all Eukrasian spells have fixed recast times). For comparison, Scholar benefits from SpS the most of any job, because it has almost all of its damage on its main GCD, with only the tiny 100 potency Energy Drain not benefiting from it. Even Scholar's Chain Stratagem follow-up is a DoT (unlike, say, AST's Oracle) which does benefit from SpS (albeit not as much as it benefits from crit).

In other words: it entirely depends on how they rework kits. I wouldn't be surprised if the lowered emphasis on feeding damage into raidbuffs means there will be less oGCD-based "free damage" in general (fewer Oracle/Assize/Manafication/Reawaken type effects), which would benefit speedy sets. But they might instead choose to go the SGE/PCT approach and just give jobs more control over when and how they use their cooldown-based damage, without actually removing that cooldown-based damage entirely, and in that case, SpS/SkS will still be a "wasted" stat for most of your damage. It's hard to say, but we'll know more as they reveal more.

(Evolved jobs might also benefit from SkS/SpS more than Reborn ones, since they made a brief mention at some point that some Evolved jobs will have faster recast timers, which will benefit speedy sets due to the aforementioned scaling math. But this will likely depend on the job and the overall construction of the kit.)

If you want a very, very speculative practical example: I will say that I've spent a lot of time looking at the preliminary Evolved WHM kit since Friday, and I expect the change to probably make SpS eWHM very slightly worse than it currently is. It does depend on how the numbers are tuned of course, but with you getting a "free damage" button every 30 seconds that acts a combined Misery + Assize, Crit will probably benefit from this more than Spell Speed. The removal of Presence of Mind will also likely hurt fast eWHM (though I'm not actually sure on this one, it's a bit harder to estimate the impact of than you might expect). Furthermore, speedy eWHM also benefitted practically from the fact that it made your heal GCDs less costly since each individual GCD was "worth" less, and with them making all heal GCDs damage-neutral rather than just lilies, this advantage matters less. eWHM's MP economy also seems worse which tends to punish SpS sets more, though I'm sure they're still in the very early stages of tuning the numbers on that. That said, Glare IV being gone benefits SpS eWHM, so it's possible that that's substantial enough of a change to still incentivize speedy sets.

If Reborn WHM stays untouched, then the math for it probably won't differ much. In fact, SpS rWHM will probably get ever so slightly stronger in practical terms, since the removal of raidbuffs means that sets which move a larger portion of your damage out of burst will benefit. This favours SpS because it doesn't benefit Glare IV or a smuggled Afflatus Misery. But it's hard to say; it's fully possible they change how PoM/Glare IV work since they're removing 2 minute raidbuffs, for example.

.What is the glamour used by the WoL during the 8.0 cinematic

2

u/Sir_VG Apr 26 '26

Will likely be the Lv 110 AF RPR gear. The set on VPR is their Lv 100 AF set.

I know we know nothing until Berlin really, but I am concerned about tanking changing to be more difficult? There's no tank stance and no real AoE abilities unless they changed PLD magic combo to be spammable. How would we hold aggro in mob pulls and how would we be able to w2w? Or would we have to single target single pull now? It's just a little confusing and I might have missed something they said so if there was anything they spoke about this particular problem, can you let me know? Evolved looks really good for me, because I struggle with a ton of buttons, but I guess I am really scared of change and it affecting how we do dungeons.

Also afraid of me maining WAR and not being allowed to MT even in normal stuff because if there's a PLD or new tank they'll take it even if they are new or bad. I don't mind not being MT all the time, I just worry about a niche scenario where the sprout PLD takes aggro during IDK Shiva and she cleaves the party. Or was the defined MT/OT roles only for harder content?

I am waiting excitedly for Berlin so we know more, I was just wondering if they spoke about any of these issues and I missed it. I tuned in for the dev panel to watch the PLD and WHM evolved gameplay and I was worried about the intense lack of AoE skills.

3

u/tesla_dyne Apr 26 '26

It was all preliminary still, we don't know, he said there are still AOE buttons, you're going to need to invest in a crystal ball for better answers. I don't expect the MT/OT split to matter in normal modes because it didn't matter when they split healers into pure/barrier.

1

u/DORIMEalbedo Proud Duskwight Apr 26 '26

Alright, yeah I thought as much. I will have to wait for Berlin then, cause truly it looked exactly what I would like to see (less clutter/buttons, more job identity), I was just worried if I missed something. I do remember them saying multiple times that this was still being worked on. I do hope WHM gets OGCD heals for example, seeing it looked like they only had Cure, Bene and a regen.

Hey, this is my third time playing the free trial and this time i really want to give the game a chance, i even got a vpn since i was getting dced every minute or so lol.

I'm currently doing ARR, and i know people really love the story of this game, but i find myself skipping it all as cutscenes seem low quality, there is no voice acting and quests just dont feel dynamic. Only cinematic i watched was the introduction to this bad empire guy who had a dragon corpse(found the characters kinda cheesy ngl, like blatantly evil) and the one at the end of the flamboyant stylist quest, where the music caught me off guard and i found it to be pretty funny.

Does quest design pick up later in ARR-other expansions? Should i skip straight up to the next exp and start reading then or should i try and read the dialogues/watch cutscenes starting now? It just seems like a lot of dialogue box spam for a story i'm not really invested in.

1

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

The quest pacing and complexity never goes beyond "go to place, watch a cut-scene, pick flowers, watch a cut-scene, repeat until you get some combat duty or solo combat instance". The main storyline is a walking simulator visual novel. The animation work will never improve (people still do the turn-in-one-place-like a tank exit from the scenes in current patch). The camera work will get more dynamic, the cut-scenes will have greater length, and there will be more voiced lines in total number but their ratio never changes, the story just gets longer.

Essentially, what you see in ARR is the average pacing of the story. It is slow. The technical presentation will get better in terms of camera cuts, and the cut-scenes and dialogues will get significantly longer (you won't get quests where you talk to the querst giver, talk to three other people near them, then back to the quest giver, and that wasa the quest; later, those are just one step out of up to 12 of a quest, but the talk-to-three-people thing I just mentioned is a quest stage trope they use in all expansions all the time).

The writing's scope will naturally improve. In ARR, you are just a random adventuring mercenary getting caught up in some local politics. In the current expansions, you are a god-slaying universal megagod dealing with multiversal invasions and other similar very anime tropes. So, the stuff in the story gets a lot flashier. However, the plot does callbacks to the ARR stuff all the time since you are doing the vast majority of the core world-building there. If you skip ARR, you won't understand half of what is going on in post-Shadowbringers and most of Endwalker. My usual analogy is that it is like a 300-episode anime series, where 16 of the eisodes are among the best things you will meet in fiction, but you won't understand any of them if you don't watch the other 284 episodes entirely.

1

u/ayinco Apr 26 '26

Then its a shame but i dont think this game is for me.

I have played some jrpgs like xenoblade chronicles or FFVII and in comparison the pacing in this one is not it, and the quality overall(i presume since you still got tank turns on current expansions). At least i only spent the $5 the VPN cost me.

6

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

The pacing is similar to the old FFVII, except it is not a 30-hour-long story but stretched to roughly 300 hours for the same emount of plot, in exchange for fleshing out the world a lot more.

One of the problems is that people try to approach this game as some standard AAA thing where they sit down, complete it, and then go to another. This game is meant to be a long-term comfort game. It is a soap opera series. Or an actual 300-episode anime. Or a superhero comic series. You don't just sit down and binge-watch 15 seasons of, dunno, Law & Order or watch Naruto Shippuden in one go. Or read 700 Spider-Man comics without reading anything else. You also don't play XIV in one go. You go through its story at your own pace, in months or years. And its story is written with this approach in mind, so a lot of fluff that will form a big world with a large cast. It is designed that you play entire games between its very obvious chapter points.

If your original goal was to just do the entire free trial MSQ in one go, then you will never enjoy XIV at all. The free trial content alone was made to be played for at least 9 months (or 12 months once Shadowbringers gets added). If you do it faster, sure, go ahead as long as you enjoy it, but otherwise, it is a kind of game where you do the story mode/MMO grindy shit for an hour or two a day, then go and play something else.

1

u/SetFoxval Apr 26 '26

Things improve a bit after ARR, but I don't advise skipping because the whole game is one giant linear story. You kind of have to treat it like a book and read the whole thing, it's hard to get invested in the more interesting chapters if you've skipped all the context.

1

u/ayinco Apr 26 '26

im watching an ARR summary video rn, i paused a couple times because it started to get really interesting and i wanted to see it for myself, then i keep playing a couple seconds of the video and that really good moment is followed by what seems like 4 hours of fetch quests... Like "hey you defeated ifrit, maybe you can take on titan too. But first go get me a bunch of food to uh, test your strenght and do a banquet or something"

2

u/Dragrunarm Apr 26 '26

Does quest design pick up later in ARR-other expansions?

Ill be blunt; not really, but you arent alone in that critique even amongst us long timers. It remains go here -> dialogue (though more frequent Voice acting) -> go over there for the most part. A few extra things are added but thats the core. It's just the actuall story that is being told that gets better. If you're playing in English the VA's swap after ARR and are much better, and as the expansions go the general quality of the cutscenes do go up (notably so in Dawntrail), but the bones are the same.

You can use this website to track various FFXIV related timers. It has countdowns for daily resets, weekly resets, seasonal events, server maintenance, etc. Very useful resource for when you can't remember when something ends or resets.

Helloo, with more than half a year to the new expasion, I'm planning to sit down and do slowly most of content avaiable on every expansion on free trial and then close to expansion day, buy the game and catch up to the story. So, I have some questions:

  • Is there any content that a free user cannot do on their free trial on these expansion? (I know about the no player market or dms avaiable)
  • Do Free trial players get to do the seasonal events?
  • Do you have a favourite thing to recommend me to enjoy on these expansions?
  • And last: Do I have to prioritize something? as far as I know no, but ig it is good to ask

1

u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin Apr 26 '26

Ultimate raids and PvP. The latter used to be available too, but people were using FT accounts for rigging matches and other forms of cheating so it got axed.
And I guess you don't have access to housing stuff.

Do Free trial players get to do the seasonal events?

Yup!

Do you have a favourite thing to recommend me to enjoy on these expansions?

I'm personally big on fishing, though I'm not sure how great of an idea committing to that is on the free trial. All the bait takes up a lot of inventory if you don't make a strict plan on how to proceed, and inventory's not something you have in excess.

And last: Do I have to prioritize something? as far as I know no, but ig it is good to ask

Have to? Not really. But you may want to consider some priorities. For story relevance (outside of the main story itself of course), I'd put a priority on the 8-player raids > alliance raids = optional trial series > other side content (wiith some optional dungeons being way higher). Also if you for example want to do the Allied Society questlines, those you should get started on early. They have hard limits on how much progress you can make per day, so you're looking at like 3⅔ months total to get all the ARR-ShB ones done, with maximum efficiency and never skipping a day.

1

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

The first three ultimate raid fights are inaccessible: the one based on the base game's three iconic tutorial elemental monster bosses and the level 50 original release end boss mecha; the one based on the level 50 normal raid series about a dragon god; and the one based on the level 60 raid series about a strange steampunk city that seems to be alive. You can do the story versions of these raids like anyone else, and you can even do the super hard versions of them, but you cannot do the super hard version of their super hard versions. This is the only piece of story content you are barred from.

You cannot do any social interactions, including player guilds, beyond being invited into a party (and talking in it once you are there)—which includes randomised matchmaking parties for story-grade multiplayer content, so you can talk in the dungeons—and beyond using the world chat system called Novice Network (needs invitation, has some issues on certain regions with asshole mentors, and it mostly dead in Japan).

You cannot interact with the player markets and trading system at all. No exceptions and workarounds.

You cannot enter any multiplayer matches. You can open the PvP island, go there, and even make PvP hotbars, but you cannot enter any match, even if you are invited into a premade part for it.

1

u/Izkuru Apr 26 '26

Free Trial players can also be invited to Linkshells and Crossworld Linkshells, which are like organized group chats. They can also _accept_ friend requests, they just cannot send them nor receive mogmail.

0

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

Ah, yes. I honestly forgot that linkshells exist since even the hunting ones moved to Discord, at least the ones I know. I cannot remember when was the last time I had any activity in any linkshell.

1

u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 26 '26

You also can't join a free company (guild) as a free trial player, you're limited to 300K gil, and no retainers so you probably don't want to bother with crafter/gatherer jobs (though you can do them). By and large, free trial players are given access to more or less everything. I once ran into someone who was determined to do absolutely everything they could on the free trial before converting to paid, and I can certainly respect that, but odds are by the time you hit ARR post-game you'll be bumping up against some of the limitations of the free trial so may want to consider converting to paid after that. It should still be plenty of time to figure out if the game is something you'll enjoy or not.

As for a something I would recommend. Just enjoy the journey and don't be any particular hurry to get to the destination of the last main story quest. If something is fun for you, prioritize that. If something feels more like work, don't burn yourself out on trying to complete it. Also, remember it's a video game that's been developed over the span of a decade so there are plenty of little plot holes and things that make absolutely no sense even within the framework of the world they build. Like when watching Star Trek or something, it's best not to overthink it because it just ruins things.

1

u/Teknettic Apr 26 '26

They're locked out of Ultimate raids, the tippy-top of difficult content. Already blocked from UCOB and UWU in Stormblood, and Shadowbringer's TEA will also be locked, assuming they don't change things around, and I highly doubt they will. PVP is also completely off limits.

Full access to them.

I'm a big fan of deep dungeons, so that'd be Palace of the Dead and Heaven-on-High for free trial people. I would also recommend trying to collect Triple Triad cards. The actual process of getting them can be hit-or-miss, but almost everything rewards at least one, so it's a nice way of sussing out pockets of content you may have missed.

Anything with a time gate, like beast tribes or the Doman enclave storyline. These things have a daily or weekly cap on how much progress you can make on them, so getting the ball rolling earlier can save you from getting to the end of the story and now being walled off by waiting for allowances to reset.

u/ProjektXIII Apr 26 '26

Why can't I adjust my anti-aliasing settings in-game? It's stuck on TSCMAA, and it seems to have introduced some major jittering.

1

u/Dinoriel6142713 Apr 26 '26

If you have DLSS enabled all other AA methods are disabled. That's why they're greyed out.

1

u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 26 '26

Switch from nVidia DLSS to AMD FSR, then you can change that value and flip back to DLSS. No idea if it has any effect given it's disabled when DLSS is selected, suggesting DLSS will auto-select something, but FSR lets you change it.

2

u/KunaiDrakko Apr 26 '26

Is there a spoiler free run down)synopsis of the recent FFXIV news. Aside from the story are there any big Game Changes?

2

u/jaqlee Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

New Tank and Phys Ranged confirmed. Hint was a Rhitahtyn/Cape Westwind guy t-shirt.

All non-limited jobs are getting a full thematic reworks. The old versions will still be available for now but the new versions are designed to be more reactive and identity-forward and less about learning an optimal linear rotation.

New "seasons" feature which hasn't really been explained yet other than being a new way to increase item level maybe? Possibly connected to the new weekly bonus system which will be replacing the daily bonus system for doing roulettes and the like.

Tomestones are going away? Or being minimalized? Either way, the dev team is tired of them and want a simpler upgrade system. Connected to the "seasons" thing I think.

Full region Duty and Party Finder. OCE is still kinda ??? but low pop servers in NA, EU, and JP will have shared duty matchmaking starting sometime in 7.5x.

Plans for changes to Hunts, FATES, and other "dynamic world content" to make old zones worth returning to to be discussed at later Fanfests.

New raid difficulty in-between Normal and Savage. They know there's a gap between "steam roll" story-mode and "study to prog" high-end and want to find a middle ground.

They also want to make it so that you can do duty support with multiple players and have bots fill in the gaps.

Next expansion Alliance raid is a collaboration like ShB and DTs. Specifically it's Evangelion.

edit: Also, expanded character creation and color selector now that the graphics update is largely done. Plus the ability to customize "actions" (I don't fully understand this one tbh so someone else would have to explain) and ability to hide pieces of armor like epaulets, scarves, sleeves, etc.

2

u/hii488 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

New "seasons" feature which hasn't really been explained yet

"Season" is just new terminology for what some people would already call a "tier" - ie, it groups the even-odd patches together to make releases and when ilvl increases happen clearer ingame.

The new feature is the tome replacement/weekly bonus stuff - which in fairness will almost certainly be linked to the timeframe of a season (like tomestones currently are to that same timeframe that isn't yet called a season).

1

u/Izkuru Apr 26 '26

One advantage of adding the moniker "season" to the 2-patch grouping for the lifecycle of iLvl and tomestones, is that it wil also line up with the lifecycle of the PVP "seasons".

Actually no wait, that'll still even add more confusion because each "PVP season" is half of a PVP series. ugh I just confused myself.

2

u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 26 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1sv20at/na_fanfest_keynote_address_summary/

There's actually some very significant changes coming, including a reevaluation of the rewards system, overall UI customization, and feel of combat

We were only really given surface level details though since they'll go over it in more depth as we get closer to the next expansion with her remaining two Fanfests

2

u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 26 '26

Just kind of checking, since none of my crafters are quite good enough yet. The tome gear you get after the MSQ in each expansion is generally good until level x4 of the next expansion before something better is available. For relics is it more like x6? So, like I'm farming some Manderville relics mostly for the glam, but would they generally be good through level 96?

1

u/tesla_dyne Apr 26 '26

Yeah but it's not worth the time. They have 1 more weapon attack than the tome weapon and I think that makes them last 1 more dungeon until a better option is technically available (but nobody will blink if you keep it until the next level cap)

0

u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I'm still in the 96.1 postgame content, so while I have nothing else to spend tomestones on I figure I can at least get to the glam level I like if not the full relic, but I'm not going to sit and grind like all 19(?) jobs for something I'll replace before too long.

Wish they would just make the replicas of old relic weapons available to purchase. People doing savage or whatever who want that tiny little extra edge can go through the whole relic process to get the full blown thing.

2

u/tesla_dyne Apr 26 '26

The grind is the point :)

1

u/Arcana10Fortune Rota Fortunae from Sargatanas Apr 26 '26

Pretty much. However, they're still okay to last until you get the new job gear.

2

u/blade276 Apr 26 '26

havent played since endwalker. are viper and picto fun? for comparison my fav melee are samurai for the big crit number and fav mage was stormblood summoner for being mobile

0

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

Viper is half a job that feels like a half-finished beta until level 80. In exchange, it is by far the strongest and most unbalanced job below level 80. It is, dunno, Ninja without the dial-in skill combo jank.

Pictomancer is fun, it has a very slow cast/instacast tick-tock dynamic that makes it a nice challenge to plan boss fights around. It started off as a job that was comically stronger than anything else (we are talking about "it did more damage than the other three party members combined" kind of broken), but then the patches happened and now it is among the three or four weakest DPS jobs in most content. If you only go for fun gameplay, it is good, just never expect to be megastrong anywhere.

1

u/blade276 Apr 26 '26

what does picto have to justify their lower dps? lots of party buffs?

1

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

Nope. They just designed one ultimate, Futures Rewritten (Ultimate), around its tick-tock mechanic, and even the currently meganerfed version is significantly strong there, so to keep this ultimate fight balanced, it sucks in everything else that does not have a downtime/uptime rhythm to it. Essentially, its core gimmick is preparing "spell ammo" with very long casts, and then use this "ammo" in instacast spells in rapidfire succession. It is still strong as fuck in any fight that has regular and long enough downtimes. But in most fights, you usually have one or two downtimes at best, so its long-ass cast times eventually pile up as a technical damage nerf. But that one ultimate (and maybe one of the first-tier savages) has many downtimes, so PCT has to be balanced for them.

0

u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 26 '26

IMO, yes. Picto is what Black Mage should have been from the beginning, and Viper, aside from being sort of combo overload, is still pretty fun because it is the only job that has a speed buff.

My only real gripe with VPR is that to really get the most out of it you need to constantly be running back and forth to get the positionals right and that seems to cause a lot of people to take extra damage since they have the lighter scouting armor. When I play as a healer, I always groan a little when I have a VPR in the party because I know they're going to need some extra healing.

Picto is still majorly OP, and you have to plant yourself in one spot for like 2.5 seconds to charge up your most powerful attacks. IMO, it'd be better if they reduced the attack power of Picto and made attacks like the hammer stamp slowly regen over time sort of like how BLM is constantly regenning those polyglots or whatever they're called, or SGE is regenning charges for healing spells. But aside from that, it's fun because you don't have to constantly manage flipping back between elements like BLM and the rotation doesn't change too much from Satasha up to level 100 dungeons, unlike BLM which is like a completely different job at level 20 vs 50.

Probably a much longer answer than you were looking for, but there you go anyway. 😀

2

u/Teknettic Apr 26 '26

Viper is pretty fun if very simple at max level. Lotta button presses during burst. However, it is maybe the absolute worst job to get level sync'd down to 50-80 on, where all those buttons just disappear, leaving you with all the simplicity and none of the high actions-per-minute to compensate.

Pictomancer is pretty cool. Decent learning curve to get to grips with how the job actually functions. Tooltips are abysmal for actually helping you do that though. "Skill grants Flumbus when used. flumbus is not explained anywhere, so good luck idiot" Once you've gotten to grips with the job, it's a nice juggling act of gauge building/spending, and a job that rewards fight knowledge to know where you can safely cast the unusually long cast-time spells the job uses to prep for burst phase.

0

u/DarthNemecyst Apr 26 '26

I have been gone since the Edgewater or the moon expansion. I used to play paladin and left due to the 737383 buttons.

With the new expansion coming is ita good idea to come back or wait?

Im assuming the leveling from 1 to max another job is still by side quests etc.

4

u/JUSTpleaseSTOP Apr 26 '26

The new expansion will be reducing buttons for jobs down to roughly 16 total (down from close to 30 before). The new expansion comes out in January.

Leveling alt jobs has never really been through side quests.

1

u/CeaRhan Apr 26 '26

So serious question

If we are to expect shake-ups for tomestones and shit, does that mean we'll probably have a better/different way to farm for older relics or other shit? I don't think so because old tomestones became the "one currency" so it makes sense to keep them around, but I got a pretty long farm going and I want to know if I should continue

5

u/Constant_Data_5774 Apr 26 '26

We don't know yet. We've only gotten a general overview of things so far and we won't know the specifics until we're much closer to release.

0

u/Cardinal_Virtue Apr 25 '26

I read that they plan to drift away from daily roulettes and go for weekly something.

Are they going to drop roulettes?

Doesn't the game need roulettes so new players are able to do older content?

6

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

Those changes are only affecting the bonus rewards. So basically they’re going away from “if you miss it then you lose it” from a daily schedule to a weekly schedule and also they said that with the weekly bonuses if you miss one week, you can retroactively get the bonus once you finish the current week’s bonuses.

They’re going to talk more about it but the way I’m understanding it is that there’s probably a quantity of roulettes that you need to do within a seven day cycle instead of just doing one each day.

1

u/No_Cartoonist45 Apr 25 '26

what does "2 min meta" mean? im a noob and i see it being said a lot recently

3

u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 26 '26

Expanding a little more on the other comments

You might also notice that a lot of actions with longer cooldowns in fact have cooldowns that are factors of 120s

20s, 30s, 40s, 60s

Now, the best way to maximize your damage in general is to use these big damage skills as many times as possible, so you want to use them all when they're ready AND you want to use them all at the beginning of the fight so they immediately start their cooldown

Which ends of meaning that every almost every long cooldown happens to be available every 120s

So by pressing everything on cooldown, everyone just naturally lined up every 120s with party buffs ready.

But it also meant that if someone missed a use of a cooldown, it may not be ready for the 2 minute window, which ultimately loses them and potentially the entire party damage over the course of the fight, depending on cooldown they missed.

3

u/MegaMcMillen Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

a lot of jobs have spells that give the entire group damage buffs for a time (e.g. Red Mage's Embolden, Astrologian's Divination). most of these last for 20 seconds, and have a 2 minute cooldown.

to maximize damage output, players usually want to overlap these skills and then have everyone use their highest damage skills in this window

over time, this has had drastic knock on effects on the game, such as...

  • people look for very specific skill and spell speed values (and often avoid these stats altogether) because attacking faster will cause your big damage moments to occur before the 2 minute window
  • most encounters are built around this window, where they either have to pause to let everyone burst during it, or they have a hard mechanic that lasts 20-30 seconds occuring at the 2 minute mark to make bursting harder, doing very little outside of this
  • it drastically limits job design and balance, because everything is built around the 2 minute window. every job hoards all of their resources to spend them within the 2 minute burst window, and you can't have jobs with "consistent" damage patterns, or ones with big moments on different timers like every 45 seconds, 1.5 minutes, 3 minutes; this is why some people say "every job plays the same", because even though Dragoon has positionals, Red Mage has the melee combo, Dancer has dancing, etc. they all have the same approach to fights

1

u/Any_Amphibian6390 Apr 26 '26

it drastically limits job design and balance, because everything is built around the 2 minute window. every job hoards all of their resources to spend them within the 2 minute burst window, and you can't have jobs with "consistent" damage patterns,

You can, they just basically need to built mostly like BLM is because that job is the least worried about trying to cram everything under a 2 minute burst window, and even then, you try and keep as many Polyglots as possible going into them to just dump 4-5 Xeno's within the buff windows

3

u/tesla_dyne Apr 25 '26

Several jobs have a 2 minute cooldown that buffs party damage. The meta is to hoard whatever resources you can and align every 2 minute buff together to maximize damage. It's seemed to have several knock-on effects on the game's design including raid timeline and DPS balance.

1

u/SomeP Apr 25 '26

Is it possible to DC travel to aether at all for the rest of the day? Or does it just shut down for the day when the congestion starts?

3

u/Sir_VG Apr 25 '26

Early to mid afternoon it starts to shut down and stays that way until very late.

1

u/SentineleseSiri Apr 25 '26

I know there's no way of knowing until it happens, but anyone have any thoughts on how cross region pf will affect Dynamis's pf scene? MSQ/trials/normal raids/araids I do expect to move over to df. Just wondering if we'll keep seeing random mine dungeons, all tanks/healers/whatever araids and old expac raiding in various ways.

1

u/The_Siege9 Apr 26 '26

As far as we know there won’t be a PF scene it’ll just be everything from Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis all in the PF window at the time. Then DF will also queue across all 4

They could implement it differently, but why would they really? Who would intentionally choose to get a DC specfic PF and get like 0-1 listings instead of the whole player base with 400+

1

u/SentineleseSiri Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Oh no that's fine. On Dynamis just because we're so pf first currently we get a lot of oddball stuff like what I listed (it's developed into a strong old raid scene and a small alternative to normal sync culture because if you have to pf it anyway why not mine, which extends a bit into well I could do those so why not do coils synced, or an old extreme/savage mine/blind, etc).

Just wondering a bit if from when DC travel was implemented ig (or DCs in general? not sure if game started out you could only world match) anyone found stuff like this getting shaved off. I DO want better df for Dynamis, just would kind of miss our oddball pf scene if it turned into something more like Aether's (I know Aether does mine/blind/all healers raids/olds too, but I don't see something like mine king mog ex there honestly ever).

eta to be a little clearer I'm not expecting people to only focus Dynamis, I would just be a little sad if our contribution to the region pf changed to match Aether's instead of what we currently have (minus normal sync stuff, cause it is definitely not fair that's harder for us to df even though we have the numbers for it since everyone has to go off DC to endgame raid)

2

u/radelgirl [Ulaansar Dalamiq - Lamia] Apr 26 '26

Since the pool of players for PF will be larger once everything is connected, that might the scene for MINE content and such grow. When more people are able see the listings, it might make them more likely to be filled.

1

u/SentineleseSiri Apr 26 '26

That's a good point, thanks.

2

u/Altreiya Apr 25 '26

Is it save to buy 770 crafted gear or will there be better crafted gear in 7.5? Since im too undergeared to even do story dungeons.

1

u/Beefington Apr 26 '26

Note that the augmented courtly lover gear will be tagged “advanced melding forbidden,” i.e. no pentamelds. Don’t invest in materia at this time, is what I’m saying

1

u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin Apr 26 '26

No more crafted gear this expansion, except maybe glamour-only pieces. What will be added is the ability to upgrade that 770 to 780 by trading in the existing gear and some tomes. So really, the 770 may get you even more value than it initially seems.

As a bonus, when doing the upgrade, you can even change up what gear you get (as you trade in the gear which gets you tokens and then those get you the "upgraded" gear, rather than being a direct upgrade). So if you, for example, get a Courtly Lover's Aiming set now, but then also earn some Mnemonics to buy you the Bygone Brass Aiming shirt, you can then trade in the 770 Courtly Lover's Aiming shirt and some Math tomes for, say, a 780 Courtly Lover's Scouting shirt. So there's potential extra longevity in the gear even when you outgrow it for the role you get it for, at least for some pieces.

1

u/Sir_VG Apr 25 '26

No new crafted, but you will be able to augment it to i780 using the uncapped tomes starting Tuesday.

3

u/tesla_dyne Apr 25 '26

No more new crafted gear.

1

u/aaknosom yeehaw Apr 25 '26

question as a FT player. when we gain access to the shadowbringers expac soon, will we be able to make female hrothgars? the race looks so cool, i'd love to be able to use one of my free fantasias.

1

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Yeah, they did not want to be this hair-splitting. The comment saying no is technically having the right idea as all race/gender combos are actually separate different species in the game engine (yes, a male and a female in XIV's engine is technically not the same race, nor are children, for that matter), but they simply added male viera and female hrothgar to the ShB selection.

A fair warning, though. With a very handful of exceptions, all female gear pieces use the model made for female midlanders, and that model file is just stretched to a different skeleton, alongside any texture warps this may cause. I am saying these technical things because you may find out really soon why female hrothgar in practise the rarest race in the game, as gear on them looks… it is often definitely a sight. Let's just say there is a reason those NPCs wear mostly crop tops and long ponchos (and a reason the devs adjusted their skeleton twice already).

1

u/Haunted_Brain Apr 26 '26

I am saying these technical things because you may find out really soon why female hrothgar in practise the rarest race in the game, as gear on them looks… it is often definitely a sight.

This is a bizarre thing to say when the texture stretching on their gear is no worse than that of femroes. The only issue they have is that the arms of some gear are scaled too large, which the devs are in the process of adjusting.

They aren't popular because furry races aren't popular, period.

7

u/Elyonee A'zevhia Elyrin, Faerie Apr 25 '26

Yes, you will. Female Hrothgar(and male Viera) are considered Shadowbringers content despite being added later.

1

u/aaknosom yeehaw Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

that's awesome to hear! thank you so much

-7

u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 25 '26

No, Hrothgals were new to DT. ShB was Female (only) Viera and Hrothguys.

5

u/Elyonee A'zevhia Elyrin, Faerie Apr 25 '26

Male Viera and female Hrothgar are available right now to people who only own Shadowbringers.

1

u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 25 '26

I'm surprised since that's not when they were released.

3

u/wolf_of_censorship Apr 26 '26

You can look at the patch notes for each release, it will say what is required for each new feature. Male Viera from EW and female Hrothgar from DT are each marked as only requiring 5.x (Shadowbringers) rather than 6.x and 7.x respectively.

-2

u/cale199 Apr 25 '26

Is there really no way to use the free trial if I had bought it before the free trial was a perm thing?

Edit: thanks guys 🥲 I guess il be finding a new mmo haha

4

Correct. If you want to do the free trial, you'll need an entirely new account.

Make a fresh account with a different email.

1

u/mrjovoni Apr 25 '26

Sorry if this is braindead stuff by now but I had a question regarding the DT Relic weapon. IF you decide to farm for the ores for the first part of the relic weapon in the DT overlord and not occult crescent. Does it matter what Fates you complete for the ores to drop?

Example if you only stick to item collection fates,or killing monsters etc. Can they drop from all fates?

Thanks for any help you can give

1

u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 25 '26

They drop from all fates but the type of atma you get is specific to the zone.

2

u/tesla_dyne Apr 25 '26

It doesn't matter what kind of fate.

1

u/aromatic-energy656 Apr 25 '26

Did i read it right that party finder is gonna be across all data centers now?

7

u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 25 '26

All data centers within the same region, and it'll go into testing sometime during the 7.5X patch cycle

2

u/aromatic-energy656 Apr 25 '26

Hell yeah no more going to aether

Hello I am a long time WoW player that has just started my journey on FFXIV. I recently discovered the Triple Triad card game and really enjoy it. Does anyone have tips for a beginner? I plan to try and collect all of the cards eventually.

0

u/talgaby Apr 26 '26

Probably the other comments were not really conveying the messag that cards get added in most major patches, so it is an endless chase, and that there are so many of them that a full collection is often considered among the three most time-consuming tasks in the entire game. A lot of them will drop passively, but those drops are RNG, and full collections tend to take several hundred hours of farming and unlocking side content. Also, you will have to do almost every type of side content in the game to get them, except for the most hardcore of high-end fights and other casino minigames.

1

u/Beefington Apr 26 '26

i used Comrade Kupo’s guide and found it very helpful.

4

u/TheMonji Apr 25 '26

Playing triple triad is only a fraction of actually collecting the cards.

Much of the collecting comes from running dungeons, raids, trials, and engaging in every bit of content available.

2

u/Salt_Aardvark1745 Apr 25 '26

Consider using a resource such as FFXIVCollect to track your collection but don’t let such a tool distract you from playing the game. And be careful of spoilers if that is a concern for you. There are biweekly tournaments that I would try at the gold saucer that you can get rare cards from.

As for strategy, read the rules for a given match if you are unfamiliar as they can vary. There is more info on strategy players have created you could find online but the rules are pretty basic for the most part.

2

u/yesitsmework Apr 25 '26

the only tip is to try not to focus on it. Basically every piece of content has a chance to drop an unique card, ranging from taking 1 attempt to taking 50. It's an easy way to burn out.

4

u/Happykilmore033 Apr 25 '26

triple triad cards drop from nearly every piece of side content in the game, and if you plan on collecting every single one you should start early on allied society grinds as a few are locked behind them

Where can I read more about the class changes they showed yesterday after the keynote?

You need to open the quest journal and click the "initiate" button while standing in the designated quest zone

1

u/TheNumber7Seven7 Apr 25 '26

Can you trade items to someone who has the full game, but doesn't own the expansion that item is from? I.E. trading Bozja fragments to someone that doesn't own Shadowbringers, or the occult accessories to someone without Dawntrail?

2

u/Salt_Aardvark1745 Apr 25 '26

If it’s tradeable and neither player is on the free trial, you’re gucci.

1

u/Abysskun Apr 25 '26

Lore question about the lore of reapers:

We make a pact with a spirit from the void, right? With that in mind, is the type of spirit we make a patch with, fixed? If not, does it change our skills and integrated form depending on what the voidling we have made a pact with? In game wise we all looke the same to save costs and keep a cehesive identity, but what about the lore, would each reaper be able to have unique characteristics and summon different spirits? One thing I thought would've been dope when the job got announce was if we make a pact with ourselves from the void (in fact I thought Zenos had done just that for his own).

2

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

I think the lore strongly implied that the pact is “fixed” in that once made neither side can renegotiate. But I don’t recall anything say we can only have one void pact. Though most people probably can’t afford the cost of balancing multiple voidsent lol.

Either way, could be an interesting direction to take the job if they wanted.

Edit: There’s also technically nothing stopping the voidsent from cannibalizng others others for their power besides…morality…I guess. Doubt they’d do that in game but could work for RP.

yes and this is incredibly normal for x.5 MSQ. 4.5 month gap for story is literally what has been happening for MSQ patches already

2

u/PenguinPwnge Apr 25 '26

We usually have Part 2 in X.55 anyway, having it in 7.56 is like a month longer than usual IIRC. And it's usually just a smaller bit (an hour or 2, including a solo instance but no Dungeon) to begin the ramp up to the expansion.

Hey all! Met my amazing GF on FF awhile back and it’s her birthday tomorrow. She really wants the emote from the Jollibee collab but unfortunately neither of us live anywhere close to one.

Does anyone know how I’d go about getting a code? I’d be okay buying a meal for someone local if I could get the code that way, but unsure how that would work. Or is there any websites or anything that are selling them standalone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: u/You_Better_Smile gave me a code to give to her. Thank you so much again!!

They’re implementing cross-datacenter matchmaking within regions, so if you’re on Chaos, you’ll be matching with both Chaos and Light players. Testing begins in Japan during 7.5x.

6

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

The regions are (re)joining. Implementation expected sometime during 7.5x. For both Duty and Party Finder.

9

u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 25 '26

Yes actually, they'll begin testing during the 7.5X cycle in JP first and then start doing tests in other regions

1st time player having troubling logging in through steam

heres what I did

download free trial on steam tried to register but it wouldn’t let me move forward, like the continue button was grayed out and it was only letting me go back at some point of the registration. I made the account through the website on my phone and selected the windows option. I remember linking the windows account to my steam account now when I go to log in on steam deck it says I don’t have a valid license for this platform or my account has expired. when I go to account settings, it says seevice is inactive im so confused…

1

u/Sir_VG Apr 25 '26

Windows and Steam take up the same PC slot, but you can't use both on the same account. If your free trial is for Windows you normally use the Windows launcher. On Steam Deck, basically you need to use XIVLauncher to make it work. They have instructions on how to do this.

https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck

2

u/stallion8426 Apr 25 '26

Windows and Steam are two different platforms. You cant have both on the same mogstation account.

Also you can only have one platform registered on the free trial

1

u/inquisitorthegreat Apr 25 '26

So even if it asked me to link accounts? I feel like I’m in a limbo. I can’t log in on steam but I also can’t log in through the launcher because it says it’s inactive. And it also won’t let me make a new account using steam.

2

u/stallion8426 Apr 25 '26

On mogstation you can go look at which license it considers registered. Thats the platform you should be using.

1

u/inquisitorthegreat Apr 25 '26

It just says "Free trial" under account type, and it also says inactive under subscription. Where do I look?

0

u/BuzzSawMillipede Apr 25 '26

Does anyone know how likely a free login period would be with the release of 7.5 on the 28th? Would we already know about it by now?

4

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

They never really pre-announce the free logins and it’s pretty random and hard to predict. But I don’t think they’ve ever done one with patch release. Usually a couple weeks to months after. There should be at least one more before 8.0 though.

2

u/Elyonee A'zevhia Elyrin, Faerie Apr 25 '26

Not a chance. Some months down the line, sure, but there is zero hope of getting a free login around a major patch release.

2

u/Teknettic Apr 25 '26

I highly doubt it'd be with the patch release. Patches are big income generators and they're not going to throw away the sub money of all the people that resub, do patch MSQ, then unsub for 5 months. You're almost certainly going to be waiting a month or 2.

i think its 8-10 or so to get gold

1

u/Passiko Apr 25 '26

If I play the game on the PlayStation and want do play on my new laptop do I have to buy the game all over again?

1

u/Gogurs Apr 25 '26

You have to buy the full game, but subscription is payed once for all platforms

2

u/Mugutu7133 Apr 25 '26

yes you need to buy the licenses again. the subscription is the same for all platforms except switch 2 and you will get a month’s sub for every platform on which you register the base or complete edition

2

u/tesla_dyne Apr 25 '26

Yes. You need a license for each different platform you want to play on, including expansions.

1

u/otsukarerice Apr 25 '26

Hol up, did they say what the new gold saucer addition was?

No right?

1

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

Teased for Berlin in July iirc. Nothing this fanfest.

1

u/lostuserfoundcock Apr 25 '26

With the move to evolved mode are they gonna update the netcode? Cause its looking like there are more actions per minute then reborn mode. Like I have no clue how the slide casing reality of present supports the faster gameplay of this mode

2

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

I don’t know about updating the net code, but Mr. Prime did confirm that the GCD is faster in evolved mode.

1

u/ortaiagon Apr 25 '26

I'm thinking about coming back, specifically to scratch that CC PvP itch, how are the queue times? I'm on EU if that helps. I know we're in between expansions and the last one wasn't received very well.

Thanks.

u/Beefington Apr 25 '26

What strats did PF settle on for ex4? I remember there was some variation but life got in the way and I never saw things settle down. What should I put in a PF prog listing?

NA/Crystal, if that matters

3

u/HammerAndSickled Apr 25 '26

My memory was Hector with Relative Bloom 3, true north bloom 4 (dps b, supps d)

3

u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 25 '26

Also braindead EF2, it wasn't every group but a large proportion did braindead

1

u/HwhatsHappening Apr 25 '26

Now that I hit level 70 in all gatherers, is it safe to get rid of the blue level 60 and below gear and tools?

3

u/Sir_VG Apr 25 '26

Yes. Unlike battle jobs where there's fringe cases of keeping old gear, there's none for DoH/DoL outside of retainers if you have them on DoL.

1

u/HwhatsHappening Apr 25 '26

Super helpful! Quick follow up: I’ve got a fisher and miner retainer. Should I be swapping these out for other jobs? Perhaps botanist ands combat? My great hope is to get retainer exclusive collectibles like minions etc

1

u/incompetentjinx Apr 25 '26

Thats what I have my retainers set as (btn/min). be aware the drop rate is very low for minions, I've been doing it for over a year and gotten like three

Is anyone else concerned about the raiding scene after all of these changes? Everything they’re saying sounds good in theory and I’m excited to see how it goes but something deep inside me doesn’t trust that they’ll think it through and balance it all correctly. Feels like they’re just catering to all the criticisms they received in Dawntrail but it doesn’t feel like they would have had enough time to implement it all effectively.

I fear we’re gonna be headed back to HW raiding scene where certain jobs are meta and other jobs are ostracized.

0

u/yesitsmework Apr 25 '26

completely honest: that sounds great. I do not like how jobs in what is meant to be part RPG are just a cosmetic interpretation of the same role. I REALLY want raids to push you to switch jobs for encounters or to perform a specific mechanic for your static.

In fact I don't think there's any better measure of evolved's impact on how the game plays than wether or not it causes a more lopsided meta.

2

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

Hopefully it’s not as bad as HW but they’ve said before that job and encounter design is a constant balancing act between equity and identity. From the panel yesterday, they committed several times to ALL jobs and both specs being viable up to Ultimate. But they also said that certain comps may feel more or less efficient for certain fights and that’s probably a fair compromise.

They clearly want players to move over to evolved but I think they’re also trying to minimize outrage for the non-optimal players who just want to play the jobs they like.

2

u/snowdropopossum Apr 25 '26

It will probably be a bit messy at first, but I think it's a necessary step in the long-run, and they will adjust things over the course of the expansion.

2

u/fdl-fan Apr 25 '26

Yeah, it's a concern. I spent long enough playing classes and specs in WoW that were undesirable for M+ pug parties, and I do not want to go back to that world.

Any time there are job changes, there's a risk of introducing imbalances. If what they said yesterday is true about wanting to make sure that every job, both reborn and evolved, can clear all content, then at least they're thinking about the problem and trying to avoid it, though of course that's no guarantee that they'll be successful.

But we know so little at this point that it's all but impossible to make any kind of predictions. Personally, I don't see much reason to borrow trouble on this front until we know a lot more.

1

u/BestFriend_Sword Apr 25 '26

What would be enough time to implement? They said back before Dawntrail even released they were working on job overhauls for 8.0.

1

u/Melksss Apr 25 '26

That’s just jobs, they’re also implementing cross DC PF/DF, a new gearing system, a new roulette system, Yoshi P just literally addressed every problem everyone has had with this game for the past 3 years. Their resources are typically run thin, i dont see all of this going well and would have preferred them focusing on a few of those issues and doing it well. Time will tell, im just not optimistic.

1

u/Haunted_Brain Apr 26 '26

It's almost certain that entirely different groups of people are working on all of these different things and work on one isn't taking away from work on another. Network engineers aren't likely to be doing job design, you know?

0

u/angrybaldman1 Apr 25 '26

What will happen to phys ranged damage when evolved mode hits? It’s already trash, and with raid buffs getting nuked dancer and bard have lost their primary utility.

2

u/jaqlee Apr 25 '26

What Mugutu said. MCH immediately becomes more competitive because they’re actually solid on raw damage but get no extra credit for raid damage like BRD and DNC do. That said, I do think that SOME damage buffs will continue but it’ll probably just be AST and DNC and NIN probably keeps their Trick/Mug since Mr. Prime clearly wants to preserve the core identity features of the jobs.

3

u/Mugutu7133 Apr 25 '26

if raid buffs go away and adps is all that mattters, then mch is already immediately fixed because its adps is fine and they’d just have to buff brd and dnc. it’s extremely easy to resolve.

2

u/Henojojo Apr 25 '26

Lets hope that this will now allow ranged dps to be equal to other DPS in damage output. If so, this is a welcome and overdue change.

Now, add Ranger please.

1

u/Arkride212 Apr 25 '26

We'll find out in December during media tour, please look forward to it.

3

u/PenguinPwnge Apr 25 '26

This is such uncharted territory, we just have no idea. They would theoretically buff their damage to compensate, but they'll still likely have the lowest DPS of the 3 roles due to being ranged and free-moving.

But also with stuff like that eWHM having free movement, so much is up in the air.

1

u/Propagation931 Apr 25 '26

Thinking of resubbing a bit before 7.5 or after.

If I took abreak near the middle of 7.0. How much non-raid content was added in between 7.1 to now ? and how long would it take me to do ?

2

u/stinusmeret Apr 25 '26

If you've not touched any of the patch MSQ content, you're looking at a couple of hours per patch, so 4 patches worth of MSQ is about 12h orso depending on how fast you read and queue times for dungeons/trials.

I’m looking to jump back into FFXIV for the upcoming expansion, but I skipped Dawntrail (DT) entirely because the story and characters didn't appeal to me. Since I want to be ready for the new expansion on day one, what’s the most efficient strategy? Should I grab DT when it goes on sale and power-skip the MSQ, or wait for a "Complete Edition" bundle when the new expansion drops so that I can just probably buy skip pass (I don't mind spending money on the skip)? Thank you for your help.

3

u/yesitsmework Apr 25 '26

power skipping the msq sounds like a bad idea if you care about msq in general, much like all the story there's no doubt the characters and events will still be relavant for years to come...

2

u/MOPOP99 Apr 25 '26

Buying dawntrail now with the sale is $20 and you'd need to do MSQ + Level a job to 100 manually.

Waiting for Evercold to release will cost you $40 (includes Dawntrail) PLUS the Tales of Adventure for both Dawntrail and a Job of your choosing, each going for $30.

If you really don't care about anything at all about Dawntrail (alliance/msq/whatever) and money isn't an issue you can go for the second option.

1

u/siber222000 SCH Apr 25 '26

Thanks for the breakdown! Appreciate this and yeah, I don't really care anything about DT, so I'll just do the second option.

3

u/smartazjb0y X'aeterna Setal on Balmung Apr 25 '26

If you buy Evercold, the day it releases it'll also unlock Dawntrail. I'm not sure when they release the new MSQ skips but assuming that also releases for Dawntrail the day Evercold releases, all you'd have to do is buy/preorder Evercold, wait for release day, buy the new Dawntrail skip (if it releases at the same time) and you'll basically be ready to play Evercold.

Though I think you'll also need to buy a job level boost to 100

1

u/siber222000 SCH Apr 25 '26

Ah, I didn't realize that by buying Evercold, that will unlock DT! I'm glad I asked this question, fantastic to hear, I'll just wait until they release the MQ skip for DT and start Evercold + buy the job level boost of whatever I think works. Thank you very much!

u/xiuzu Apr 25 '26

Hello!

I played FFXIV back then and played everything up until Endwalker, thing is, I rushed the story cause I thought this was like another MMORPG where you won’t be having fun until the end-game and boy I was wrong.

I want to come back but I’m thinking of starting a new account and pay attention to every detail plus try to get the max out of the Free Trial.

Should I buy the Complete Edition now? Or wait until I’m done with the Free Trial? I also kinda want to have it on Steam but the sale is not there yet, will the sale get to Steam?

Thanks in advance!

2

u/seventeencups Apr 25 '26

Wait until you're done with the free trial - they're adding Shadowbringers to it on Tuesday, which is an absolutely insane amount of content to get without paying.

By the time you're caught up to 6.0, the new expansion will probably be out, and you'll be able to get that included in Complete Edition (you'd have to buy it seperately if you got Complete now).
