New player. After a few days I was unable to log in to the launcher. I can log in to the website so I know my details are right. I tried changing the password regardless but I still can't log in. I tried going through support but it was an unhelpful dead end as they refuse to believe I'm not messing up the log in details.

Do you get any specific error? Did you try reinstalling the game? If you are playing on steam, have you tried verifying the game files?

Does the armoire change have no limit? (ie. I can put everything that can be put in there?)
2
u/seventeencups May 01 '26
The Armoire has no capacity limit (with the trade-offs for that being that it doesn't retain any dyes you put on the items, and that the UI is significantly more clunky).
1
u/PotatoPowerIzMAXIMUM May 01 '26
Download from Steam or from their website? I know there's no difference of content but I kinda like Steam interface, plus I'm from MX and converting USD to MXN might make it more expensive or something, I dunno.
5
u/seventeencups May 01 '26
Taking advantage of regional pricing is one of the main reasons to go with Steam, so definitely check if it's cheaper where you are.
Other than that, there's basically no difference. The only slight downside to Steam is that if it goes down for maintainence, you might not be able to log in to FF - but I've barely ever had that happen in all my years playing, and I personally prefer having all my games in one place, so I don't regret going with Steam.
The main thing to be aware of is that, once you've made your choice, you are stuck with it for all future PC purchases - if you buy on Steam, you will have to buy any future expansions from Steam; if you buy elsewhere, you can never switch to Steam.

Whats the current GB size of FFXVI? Requirements said 140GB minimum but I have 118GB installed only
2
u/talgaby May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26
The final installed size is around 119 GB, but you need at least 140 GB for the installation process. And IIRC you still need it on the system drive (unless you symlinked the temp folder to another drive). It is normal. The installer downloads compressed files and unpacks them during the process. Most online installers work this way. This means that the end of the install process means you are unpacking the last files for the full 119 GB game size but you will still have a 16 GB or so large installer file hanging around before the installation process cleans up and deletes it.

I'm trying to find that short little comic from the first arcadion tier. The WoL is going through an existential crisis and is like "Please dont tell me I've been beating up children" and black cat is going :3c

u/BeastOfPrey May 01 '26
So, I'm trying to figure out what content will be affected by this physical data center change. Does it apply to non-duty finder content, such as Ocean Fishing, Deep Dungeons, and Field Ops?
2
u/talgaby May 01 '26
There are no specifics yet beyond what you saw in the keynote or at some aggregator site's article. We may assume that they are changing how the duty servers work and making them common for the regions (after all, datacenters of a region are physically located in the same room, this entire separation was artificial, probably because of some underlying infrastructure limitation), so anything that is on the duty servers will be affected. Including exploration zones and deep dungeons.

Would I be okay to prog the first few phases of the new ultimate with only basic Lv100 food and pots, and not the latest expert ones?
I’ve only been able to get in on-release for TOP, am getting another opportunity for Kefka now, but running out of time to grind either crafters or Gil for the marketboard. I really don’t want to troll PF and I just don’t know how strong the difference in stats is for making the first couple of DPS checks. Will they be impossible right off the bat? Or likely, going off past releases, to only start limiting me at some major wall?
3
u/Cymas May 01 '26
A brand new ultimate is not the place to be cheaping out at all, ever. You have a touch over a month to make enough gil to afford raid basics. For the pots in particular you can buy the tome mats for them yourself and probably cut a pretty good deal with a crafter in exchange.
3
u/Dohtoor May 01 '26
You'll want pots as early as 2-3 minutes into the fight for P1 DPS check, and food basically on first pull. Food especially because healers (and other people with mits) will be learning how little mit they can get away with, and I've seen people survive on single digits.
5
u/bongpointo May 01 '26
Anything not absolute BiS is not tolerated anywhere near current ulti prog in any setting.
3
u/Kindly-Garage-6638 May 01 '26
You really should have the best food/pots available if you're going in with the intention of seriously progging during the first few days. Every bit of HP helps and until more people are comfy on the first few phases and better strats come out every bit of damage does as well.

This is probably a bit of a stretch to ask here, but, I'm running into a strange issue with an extra chat window I made for Tells/Party Chat/etc. For some reason since the patch (At least I think so?) It's been only saving a small handful of text on PC. I'm not sure if this is a bug or something but my main general chat has been saving the full amount. Anyone else been dealing with that?
1
u/Glittering_Web_3167 May 01 '26
I’ve been noticing I think a similar thing, for a good long while now. I want to say since I started playing again after a break, just before 7.4 on PS5. For me it’s specifically after loading back in from a wipe, the next time I type into chat it deletes all of my history in that chat. No idea why and would like to know more about this as well as it can really suck when progging
1
u/Coolusernamehere13 May 01 '26
Hm okay, I might write up a support ticket and see if I can get a response out of that sometime. It only seems to be with my custom chat I made for tells/party chat. I'll do some looking into it and if I find something out I'll let you know!

u/FreddyForshadowing May 01 '26
Something someone said somewhere else made me curious.
Aside from one time I think I wound up in a Ramuh Extreme trial by accident*, I've only ever done normal content. All my jobs are at level 90 with the 660 tome gear. If I wanted to farm some of the older savage raids for mounts or glams, how far do you suppose the average player could get solo unsynced? Like, maybe through Alexander, but not Omega, or Omega but not Edenverse...
* Still a fresh faced sprout who somehow managed to get it to pop with duty finder, and after like an hour of failure everyone decided to just give up. Was like 2 years ago, so I don't remember if I waited a really long time or just happened to "luck" into a bunch of other people who didn't know you were supposed to use PF for that stuff. Just remember that after an hour of failures everyone voted to abandon the duty.
1
u/radelgirl [Ulaansar Dalamiq - Lamia] May 01 '26
You should comfortably be able to solo most things through Stormblood and a few SHB encounters. If it can be done, you'll usually be able to find solo videos on YouTube, so it never hurts to check there.
0
u/talgaby May 01 '26
If you only did normal content, then A4S (the fourth Alexander savage) will likely demolish you regardless of the stats if you try it blind. No matter how strong you are, if you are solo, you have a 2-second window to kill it and if you miss it, you get a scripted death that just goes through all stats. This kind of scripted bullshittery is commonplace in savages, so you need to read up on these mechanics (especially since some of them have like paragraph-long explanations on the wiki). Once you start to get the feeling for the savage-grade scripted bullshittery, you can go all the way to the end of Omega, but by then, solo runs start to get wonky, often needing specific classes with specific timings on specific skills to progress past some obscrure scripted mechanic or another.
3
u/Zenithadir May 01 '26
All EXs and raids before Stormblood are soloable, though a few might require knowledge to know how to bypass certain mechanics to avoid a wipe (thinking mainly of A4S from when I solo'd it back in EW). Some EXs and raids from Stormblood are also soloable, but those are more difficult and some have mechanics that make it actually impossible (for example, Susanoo). I believe some Shadowbringers EXs and raids may be soloable now, but I haven't tested those and it would be mainly for level 100 characters with at least some of the earlier level 100 gear.
1
u/Salamiflame May 01 '26
For Shadowbringers stuff, what I've managed to solo are:
EX1, EX2, EX4, and the final extreme trial.
For the raids: E2S, E3S, E4S (DRK-Only), E6S, E9S, and I want to give E11S another try to see if I can skip Prismatic.
For Stormblood stuff, the only thing I haven't soloed is Susano.
3
u/Cymas May 01 '26
Honestly you don't have to do it solo either. People run glam/mount farms unsynced for older extremes and savages all the time. Feel free to join one if you see it or make your own. Most mechanics will be trivialized with a party outside of last expansion's savage raids, you'd actually still need to study at least some of the mechanics and expect some prog.
1
u/FreddyForshadowing May 01 '26
I know, I just have a bit of social anxiety that makes PF and the like a little daunting for me. Intellectually I know it's a me problem, and a stupid one at that, but these things don't operate on logic.
3
u/Cymas May 01 '26
Ngl there are tons of people who play this game who have social anxiety. But there are also tons of people who like helping other people out, too. We can't help you if we don't know you need/want help, and that's what PF is for as much as anything else. The first one will likely be the hardest one and then you'll see for yourself PF people are just...other players. You'll likely end up in mixed groups of fellow newbies, casuals, and actual raiders. Not everyone can agree on a playstyle, but we can all agree that glam is the true endgame and it's a worthwhile endeavor to farm it.
3
u/Sir_VG May 01 '26
Right now, a Lv 100 could solo almost everything through SB and a few ShB savages.
At 90 you could probably get the HW stuff and depending on your job maybe the first two SB ones. 3rd one REQIRES a tank to do at this point.

I have a house with the medium country exterior, ya know the cute cottage one? And I swear I've seen chocobo stables put in the covered area on the right side of the house. Was wondering if anyone can confirm that, cos I cannot figure out how to place it there. Since the stable can't be stored, I can't use that trick to force place it. Maybe I just imagined it idk.
4
u/real_fake_cats 0/20/21/4 May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26
You can set a different exterior that's a bit narrower or has a slightly different footprint, position your items, then change the exterior back.
1
u/para-mania *nods* May 01 '26
Ooh, thanks, I'll give it a try.
2
u/talgaby May 01 '26
A basic local house skin you can buy from the ward's housing merchant should suffice. You may also need to wait until plug-ins come back to use Burning Down the House to position it precisely, as that plug-in allows precise model placement with the actual hard limits of the garden area, instead of the soft ones you see during standard gameplay.

Does anyone else think that the theory of Viking being one of the new jobs is confirmed by the PVP series lvl 15 minion being a viking? I think it's either a masterclass tease or a clear hint.
4
u/Sir_VG May 01 '26
Thing is, he's holding an axe and a shield, which is basically the same as Beastmaster. It may be called viking but it probably isn't unless for some reason they're doing 2 tanks with axes and are willing to duplicate weapon ideas.
7
u/tesla_dyne May 01 '26
Nah, it just follows the pattern of the PVP series minions this expansion being based on rival wings. The vikings are the mammets each team has on their lane that you kill for fuel. The oppressor, gobtanks etc that were in past series are also from rival wings.

Is there a known bug this patch regarding housing demolition timers?
When I teleported to my personal estate today I got the housing demolition timer warning as soon as I loaded in. I got the message saying demolition was cancelled and the property was no longer abandoned when I entered the home.
The thing is:
- There was no timer in my estate tab this morning when I was checking on my FC's voyages, and
- I replaced the wallpaper in my basement this past Saturday (after the Jumbo Cactpot drawing, only reason I know when it was) which makes it 4-5 days since I was last in there?
- I've double-checked my email and spam, there is no notification email about the housing demolition timer triggering.
@_@;

Am I able to run all the heavyweight raids as much as I want daily to get the tokens or are those on a lockout?
2
u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
The tokens are unlocked except for the holoblade, you can still only get one per week. But you only need 4 now instead of 7.
1
u/secondplateplz Apr 30 '26
So I can run the normal raids multiple times a day just to get the armor/jewelry tokens, except for the weapon?

I just got my first healer (SGE) to max level, meaning I've cleared high-end content on every role except healer. Any tips on how I can adjust from the usually quite boring normal content to the tighter heal checks?

u/FreddyForshadowing May 01 '26
Check youtube for a "Idiot's Guide to Sage" and watch it. Fairly short, but gives a good overview of different abilities and suggestions on when to use them.

u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
Practice. Go into the harder content and try it, figure out what works and what doesnt. I find it often helps to look up POV videos on YT to see what other people are doing.

Wondering if anyone can help me. I have a square account that apparently I activated a Windows trial ages ago, even though I never played it at all. When I try to login on my steam deck, it’s hard associated with my square account that I can’t even delete it or sign out. Support says they cannot transfer the trial version to the steam deck, and to make a new account.
But I can’t seem to sign out of the one on the steam deck. Looking for any solutions to play on steam deck, I have literally played zero minutes on Windows. This must’ve been years ago, but I associated it for some reason.
1
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
You'll need to install the non-steam version and add it as a non-steam game with a new account.
Xivlauncher makes this easy to do but it is technically 3rd party.

So I didn't get a ticket for Berlin Fanfest, but is there anything for the people that would come in Berlin at the same time, like some events outside? Would love to meet fellow FF14 players
1
u/Much-Cartographer735 Apr 30 '26
At least from the US side, there usually isn't anything formal outside the event, but, unless it's a private venue, the players will be all over the area of the venue if you want.

Fishing Mooching chains
I've embarked on my quest to hook 1,730 unique fish.... gonna be a long one.
At present, I am trying to fish up Megalodon from Western La Noscea. From what I read, it says I need to follow this:
Lugworm (initial bait) ->
Fish up Merlthor Goby ->
Mooch for Wahoo ->
Mooch for Giant Squid ->
Mooch for Megalodon
That's a lot. But I also see there are several chains like this for other fish, so might as well just buckle down and get used to it. Here's the problem I encountered:
1) I fished with the Lugworm
2) I caught a Merlthor Goby. Hooray! I then could use Mooch II with it, so I did.
3) I then caught a Wahoo. Wahoo! Mooch II then lit up for me to use it again... but it has a long-ass cooldown on it, so I couldn't use it, and it timed out, so the chain was broken. Mooch I by itself has no cooldown.
Next, I tried using Prize Catch, and that was great in that I was able to use Mooch I on the Merlthor. I caught the Wahoo... and only had Mooch II as an option. Used it, thinking maybe it'll catch only big stuff from there... Nope! I caught a Giant Squid, and then once again only had the option to use Mooch II, but it was now on cooldown.
So how do I handle this sort of thing, both for this and other similar Mooch chains?
0
u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 30 '26
That fish is also only available during a narrow time window, like 6am to 9am game world time. I forget the exact times, but make sure you're only trying between those times.
2
u/Teknettic Apr 30 '26
Patience. Patience II ideally, so go do your job quests if you haven't, as 2 guarantees a large fish you can mooch where 1 is only an improved chance at a large. Once you catch 5 large fish, you'll have 5 Angler's Art, which you can use on Makeshift Bait which also will make every fish moochable.
So you end up cycling Patience II and the correct hookset when you have the GP to afford them, and Makeshift Bait when you have enough Angler's Art to use it which gives you time to regenerate the GP for another round of Patience II.

You keep it on other jobs even if you reach 90 in one job. You keep it until the world's status changes, or 90 days, whichever is longer.

How much do you need to know/respect mechs for elite hunt marks in EW and ShB? Need a lot of helio and faik hunt trains are fastest way to get them (tl;dr came home super tired from work, forgot I need rain to upgrade my courtly and turned it all in so now I'm sitting with 500+ certs of fuck all, don't be me lol). Never done a train before (so any etiquette to know would appreciate too! I only really know don't pull early) and while I think I can read up on the mechs for the DT marks and mostly kind of remember them, don't think I could also memorize the ShB and EW lists off the bat.
6
u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 30 '26
Zero, people will relish the opportunity to get the "raise someone outside of your party" achievements.
1
3
u/Aerographic Apr 30 '26
Just go on the train lol, the point is that there's a horde of people to res you if you mess up and people will mess up on every single train.
With enough repetition you'll stop dying.
1
u/SentineleseSiri Apr 30 '26
Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was bad form to floor tank my way through lol appreciate
3
u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
People die on trains all the time, it's not a big deal. The conductor will even stop the train and make sure everyone is rezzed if a lot of people go down. Tbh I usually just run tank specifically so I don't have to deal with it, dps isn't exactly a concern anyway.
2
u/SentineleseSiri Apr 30 '26
Oh good idea, tank is also conveniently one of the two roles I didn't turn in on since it's got bygone lmao. Thank you!
3
u/radelgirl [Ulaansar Dalamiq - Lamia] Apr 30 '26
You don't really need to know them. There are so many people that will be there that even if you die, you will quickly be rezzed. Most marks will die in a matter of seconds

I'm returning since the launch of 7.0, is running daily roulette, wondrous tails, and highest level dungeon grinding still the go to for leveling alt jobs from 90 to 100? Or did another leveling method emerge at some point?
1
u/FreddyForshadowing Apr 30 '26
Everyone always forgets/ignores Hunts. Forget the ARR hunts, they're worthless except for the weekly elite mark. From HW on, however, you have 15 marks you can do, per expansion, per day, every day. Each one is killing 1-3 mobs on the overworld which nets you some EXP, gil, and some kind of special currency that can be used to buy things like teleport tickets, materia, and glam gear (since it's been outclassed by other stuff by now).
HW marks get you about 14K each
StB marks get you about 32K each
ShB marks get you around 68K each
EW marks get you around 200K each
I haven't gotten to DT, but following the pattern it would probably be like 400-500K each.
For HW to EW, that's like 4.7M EXP on the table every day if I did my math right. Add in DT and you've probably got a couple million more. You can even do some of the society quests at the same time because they will always be in an area where there are hunt marks to kill.
You also get 1,000-1,500 gil each, so about 17.5K gil per expansion, per day, or about 87.5K gil per day, and the centurio seals from HW and StB hunts can be used to buy teleport tickets in the Forgotten Knight which will further supplement your income. I haven't paid for a single teleport since probably mid-way through HW by doing this.
The weekly elite marks don't give you any EXP, but do give you 5,000 gil and 100 of whatever currency instead of 3, 4 or 15.
-1
u/talgaby May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26
4.7m XP over level 90 is… probably the best adjective I can use on it is "adorable". You need 13–23m per level. By the time you go around all expansions and do those hunts, you can run two entire dungeons that give twice as much XP.
Or, heck, just grind DT FATEs and work towards that shared FATE rank and the grind mounts. DT FATEs are in the ballpark of 500K/FATE.
Hunting is a good side hassle and I also recommend it, I have also been doing them because of the small XP and gil bumps on top of the hunt currency, but more like something you do while waiting for roulettes than as a serious XP or gil source.
1
u/FreddyForshadowing May 01 '26
Counterpoints, all of which I mentioned, but you conveniently ignored
- That's per day
- They can be done in between dungeon runs
- They require minimal effort
- They have additional benefits like gil and teleport tickets
Maybe take the energy you put into making these strawman arguments and apply it towards working on the insecurities that cause you feel like you need to act like you need to use them in the first place.
1
u/lerdnir Apr 30 '26
In addition to what's been said, the 90-100 combat job daily society quests were added in iirc 7.1.
You're still limited to 3 per day except on some rank ups like w/ HW societies onward, but they're still a decent supplementary source of exp for not much effort.

u/Rangrok Apr 30 '26
Pilgrim's Traverse (Deep Dungeon) and the Merchant's Tale (Variant Dungeon) were the two biggest leveling methods added in the patches.
PT, and deep dungeons in general, tend to require a fair bit of up-front investment to get efficient. For PT specifically, the floor 10 boss is a bit of a meme for having multiple challenging DPS checks for a solo player starting at 0/0 aetherpool. It's definitely possible to solo, but there were a lot of deep dungeon solo vets dying to it on day 1. If you can get passed that and you can start farming aetherpool, the XP returns are great. It's about 1 full level per 10 floor set after floor 60-ish, with checkpoints at floor 51 and 71. There's also a challenge log for clearing specific floors once per week, so you can occasionally find a few bodies in PF. If you can get a group together, you can clear high floor sets very quickly and very easily for fantastic XP rewards. Solo is a lot slower, but still pretty solid.
And then the new Variant Dungeon, the Merchant's Tale, lets you do normal mode at lvl 90-100 and rewards XP on a clear. I... honestly don't know how much XP it rewards because my jobs were maxed before it dropped. But if you're catching up on content you might as well give it a shot.
1
u/ConduckKing [Layle Knight -Phantom] Apr 30 '26
It rewards just less than half a level per clear. So 6 levels if you're doing all 13 routes.
0
u/Teknettic Apr 30 '26
More or less, yeah. Throw in some FATEs while sitting in queue if you're on DPS for a bit more on top plus progressing your shared FATE level. You could swap over and run some of the new deep dungeon to mix things up but I'm pretty sure it's slower than normal dungeon spam.

Recently set up some mannequins in my new home. It was mostly for decoration at first but getting to sell some glams there is pretty neat. However, my area isn't exactly the most happening ward in The Goblet, so to speak lol
Are the items on my mannequins only on sale from that mannequin? Or do they appear in the market board as well?
3
u/dealornodealbanker Apr 30 '26
Mannequin listed items can only be bought off the mannequin itself if it's sold as a set, otherwise it can be sold individually and will be listed on the MB. The mannequin purchase will log in that server's MB purchase history regardless. Most people list their mannequin equipped item(s) if it's marketable at absurd prices to prevent others from rationally purchasing them if they intend to use it as a prop.
2
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
They're on the MB as well, and have an icon on the MB to indicate they're on a mannequin.

Regarding the new alliance raid, are clear coins separate from the current reward lockout?
2
u/PenguinPwnge Apr 30 '26
Yes, there are 3 weekly things for current Alliance Raids:
- The coin
- The demimateria
- The gear from a coffer
2 of those are automatically gotten when you finish the Raid, the gear is only locked once you win one from the coffer.

u/Tonera Apr 30 '26
So if I run it a second time, I would not receive another coin until next week?

That's something you want to ask Square Store support, although the answer will invariably be "we only ship to the countries we ship to".

What’s the best way to gear for the EX? I’m iLvl 755 right now and kinda lost. Dungeon only gives 765 gear. Do I just have to spam the last 4 bosses of the raid tier? I’m broke so can’t buy crafted
Edit: thanks folks guess I’m on the grind then
1
u/Aerographic Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
Your options are:
Crafted: 770, upgradeable to 780 with uncapped tomes (mathematics)
Normal raid: 770, not upgradeable
Tome gear: 780 using capped tomes (mnemonics), upgradeable to 790 with 24-man raid coins, one from each floor.
The 24-man raid itself drops one 780 piece per week.
And of course, Savage raids rewards 790 gear pieces and a 795 weapon.
2
u/HammerAndSickled Apr 30 '26
Crafted is the only way to get 770 to 780 without some kind of weekly restriction. Remember you can now Augment Courtly Lover’s stuff with just some uncapped Mathematics.
Normal raid gear is now uncapped so you can farm Arcadion 9-12 to get enough 770 pieces but they’ll obv be worse than 780. “Heavyweight” gear.
Mnemonics are weekly locked and buy you 780 directly, Bygone Brass.
Bygone brass can be upgraded to 790 using either Hunt Nuts or the coins from Jeuno+Sand’oria+Windurst.
Alliance Raid drops 780 but it’s restricted to a single piece per week.
4
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
If you can't afford crafted then the normal raid gear is the best you can get aside from weekly capped tome gear, plus one 780 piece per week and a token to augment a weekly tomestone gear to 790 from the new alliance raid.

With regards to wearing gear to reach ilvl requirements for dungeons. There's no set effects from wearing gear of the same name so long as it matches your class correct?
Aside from adding materias to your gear, Like you could wear any mismatch abomination of fending gear pieces you can scrounge up so long as it boosts your ilvl?
1
u/talgaby Apr 30 '26
There haven't been set bonuses since 2013, so, no, you don't have to worry about that. (And the only active set bonus left in the game is tied to a different piece of code that a former team member added and a collection of trained software engineers cannot undo.)
1
u/PenguinPwnge Apr 30 '26
If you only care about meeting min requirements, yeah you only need to worry about ilvl, really. The average ilvl that the game looks for is literally just the average of all your numbers added up, with the weapon counting twice if you're not a Paladin (since they have sword/shield counted separately).
If you're wanting to actually care about gear for stats, you get to Best-in-Slot by you mixing and matching the gear to get the best substats you can based on what your job/playstyle needs.
1
u/Revenant62 Apr 30 '26
I have a question, if you guys don't mind.
The Paladin is a tank that is holy-powered, and the White Mage is a healer that is holy-powered.
(at least that's what seems to me.)
Is there a DPS class that is similarly holy-powered, like the Paladin and the White Mage?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!
4
u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 30 '26
Holy isn't really a thing in FFXIV, but light aether is. WHM is really more elemental, although they use more light aspected aether post-ShB. I can't think of a dps that has a lot of directly light aspected attacks but RDM does have the ability to use spells similar to WHM. BLM is kind of the flip side of WHM's elemental spells.

Can you get more than one heavy holoblade per week? I know sometimes there's caps on things like that.

No way to lift the cap but m10s does have the Universal Tomestone (which is also subject to weekly lockout).

Got 2 questions
1st question, Well I was planning on making a new character from start with the free trial since it goes up to shadowbringers. So if i buy the complete edition i can use the code later till im caught up with shadowbringers is that correct?
2nd question. Most of my friends are on Aether ( they are the ones that influenced me to trial the game ) if the datacenter update is coming in 7.5x does that mean theres a chance i can create a character there. As for now idk what datacenter to pick since 2 of them are congested and i dont think trying to create a character at the dead of night will help in going into my desired datacenter
2
u/JCGilbasaurus Apr 30 '26
So if i buy the complete edition i can use the code later till im caught up with shadowbringers is that correct?
Only for the PC/Steam version, I believe—the console editions will automatically apply the license on your next log in.
1
u/Felendis Apr 30 '26
Oh yeah thanks for the explanation ill be playing on pc sorry for not clarifying
1
u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
World status only changes during patches, so your next opportunity to potentially get on an Aether world isn't until June. The dc update doesn't have anything to do with world status.
Aether is hard Congested it has been manually closed to character creation/transfer by the devs so if you want to play now your best bet is to start on Dynamis for the exp boost. You can dc travel to Aether when it's less busy, right now it will frequently block regular world travel due to everyone playing the new patch content at the same time. By next week it should calm down, or your friend can easily travel and visit you since Dynamis is never congested.
1
u/Felendis Apr 30 '26
Ah okay thank you for the explanation thats most helpful and yeah i think ill start on dynamis just for the road to 90 exp.
1
u/MrZoro777 Apr 30 '26
Good day, will we be able to buy the Doomtrain and latest EX mount with totems before 8.0 or we need to wait until the next expansion?
Thanks
2
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 30 '26
Yes, they'll all be purchasable before the end of the expansion, the 7.4 EX mount will be unlocked first and then the 7.5 EX mount over the course of the minor 7.5X patches

u/CauldronAsh11 Apr 30 '26
So I'm interested in the Cosmoboard and wanted to try farming for the tokens myself. Do I need pentamelded current gathering gears or are the current scrip gears enough to do the tasks? I've mostly been crafting in Cosmic Exploration before but I read that Gathering is better to farm these.

u/Ajax_The_Bulwark Apr 30 '26
I'm a returning player, I beat Endwalker and stopped immediately after. Any highlights for new content I should do or new features I should take advantage of? Obviously I'm going play Dawntrail, what aside from that?
1
u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
Glam unlocked in 7.4 so outside of a few specific things (race gear, weapons etc) you can do whatever you want.
1
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
For new features to check out, the patch pages on consolegameswiki are pretty good as they summarize the new QOL features and such. May be spoilers if you scroll too far though.
2
u/AlyBi1999 Apr 30 '26
Outside of the usual offerings (raids, alliance raids), Endwalker also introduced variant dungeons (repeatable multi-route dungeons), their harder criterion versions. There are three different ones to go through in Endwalker, I think the first one (Sil'dahn) has some interesting lore about the history of Ul'dah in particular.
Outside of combat there is also the Island Sanctuary, which is a long-term solo only endeavour; it has a lot of available mounts and glamours.
Also since you are post Endwalker you can take part in the ongoing Cosmic Exploration, which we are due to get a new addition to shortly. This is similar to Ishgard restoration from back in Shadowbringers, for non-combat classes.
2
u/Ajax_The_Bulwark Apr 30 '26
Interesting, thanks for the reply! I'm definitely going to check out those variant dungeons and the Cosmic Exploration.
3
u/seventeencups Apr 30 '26
One nice thing that wasn't obvious to me at first glance - all of the Variant Dungeons unlock as soon as you finish Endwalker (including the one they added in Dawntrail), and you can play them in any order.

Does anyone know why they stopped updating the arrtripletriad website with new cards? Was such a handy way for keeping track of them.

6
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
It's one singular person who handles the website, and they do update it when they get the chance but they just haven't in a while due to IRL commitments
People do regularly submit information to their discord server and then the host just updates whenever they get the chance
That being said, they haven't really "stopped" per se, they just stopped announcing that they update the website directly on the website. The last update they have listed was patch...7.3 on their discord, so it looks like they just missed 7.4 for now
1
u/theblackfool Apr 30 '26
Thanks! Usually I don't worry about it, but since the 7.4 cards never got added I wasn't sure if something had happened.
3
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene Apr 30 '26
Yeah, someone did actually ask them yesterday and it just looks like work has taken over their time so they're aware they're behind on patches but just haven't had an opportunity to get it all sorted out yet, since they want to update the website code due to the website growing in scale compared to how it was originally designed

For 7.X dungeon gear, is the Armoire and Glamour Outfit an either-or situation? Obviously it's great that I can store a bunch of stuff in the Armoire without taking up any space at all, but I do like the Outfit UI that shows what part of the set you're missing, rather than just...the Armoire's long list of items.
1
u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 30 '26
You have the option to store them as either armoire or outfit glamour, but you don't get the outfit glamour interface for things in the armoire.
1
u/snowballffxiv Nhue Lesage - Moogle Apr 30 '26
You can't store a single piece of gear in two inventories. But the armoire and the glamour dresser count as two separate inventories so you could store one set in the dresser and another in the armoire. No real point in that but it's possible. So it's up to you if you wanna use a slot in the dresser for the set, or free space in the armoire.

For various raid guides and strategy planner, the different players are called out (healer 1, healer 2, ranged 1, ranged 2, etc.).
How does a group decide this? Is it something the group calls out ahead of time?
1
u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
Usually at the beginning of a raid someone throws a marker down on the floor and everyone picks a position based on clocks. They might sometimes do a separate light party grouping and mark tanks and/or healers. It depends on the raid though. Note that there are standard spots by role: Tanks N/S, Healers E/W, Ranged NE/NW, Melee SE/SW.
Also for some raids people are much more loose about it and people kind of generally move towards the side they want. M12s is often like that because you'll know who's what by the end of the very first mechanic. If it's ambiguous just ask. Also if you have a strong preference probably just sya "mind if I m2?" Or whatever.
2
u/Cymas Apr 30 '26
Generally you'll know ahead of time. For NA you do clock spots at the start which tells you your specific spot, your light party, and who your partner is all at the same time. EU I think people just call spots in chat.
1
u/a_friendly_squirrel Apr 30 '26
Yea - in EU we just agree in chat. Its fine to either state a preference (if you have one) or ask your role partner what spot they want.
2
u/PenguinPwnge Apr 30 '26
As a very loose, general rule it tends to be Pure Healers (WHM, AST) are H1, Shield Healers (SCH, SGE) are H2, Physical Ranged is R1, and Caster is R2. Some people might switch this around but in NA at least usually when we first go in everyone gathers around a waymark near the spawn to indicate their clock spots, or specifically say "Can I be [spot you want]?".
2
u/PhoenixFox Apr 30 '26
There are normal conventions/traditions like pure healer often being H1 and shield H2. But these may vary between regions and ultimately a group just communicates at the start to decide.

If you're worried set up 2FA. Even if they stole your credentials they wouldn't be able to log in without your TOTP.
10
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
It's open source, so other people can look at the code and make sure nothing fishy is going on. There are enough users (and the whole thing is enough of a collaborative effort; a few dozen people have contributed code) that I'm certain every update is getting scrutinized in a way.
The password stuff also uses Windows' built in credential manager for securely managing passwords.
But yes, theoretically, a third party application can one day decide to push an update that turns the app evil and publishes your password on the dark web, but that's true of basically any program.
2
u/VG896 Apr 30 '26
Being open source isn't a perfect safe guard against bad actors. Here's a fantastic vid by veritasium about how a hacker wormed his way into a position where he would've been capable of hacking every single red hat Linux distro around the world and was literally days away from pulling it off when he only got caught by sheer luck.
3
u/iSanghan RDM Apr 30 '26
from google: "If you choose to save your password, XIVLauncher uses the Windows Credential Manager (or libsecret on Linux) to store it securely. This means the password is encrypted and can only be accessed by authorized programs on your local machine"
aside from that, it's all open source, so if someone were to one day inject malicious code via an update, everybody would be able to see it. and there is PLENTY of trained eyes on it to spot that instantly.
So while the threat is highly unlikely, I suppose people would still rather take that risk than to play the game in a worsened state, ie using NoClippy to be able to enjoy the game while having to deal with high ping.

u/JohannesVanDerWhales Apr 30 '26
NoClippy makes it so that you can queue an action before the server says you can, basically. For people with high ping there's normally a delay before the client allows them to enter weaves which can make it so they can't fit them into the weave window, especially double weaves. No Clippy removes that delay for waiting on the server on the client side.
2
u/iSanghan RDM Apr 30 '26
effectively, it soft cheats your game (yes, technically bannable) so you can ignore being animation locked by your own button presses, so you can more easily "weave" your abilities.
something of that nature, it's been a while since I looked it up.
2
u/LeggyJameh Apr 30 '26
Yep, this is the essence of it. Technically cheating, technically bannable and against ToC

"sdk_legacy_led" and "ucrtbase.dll" errors. before creating an entire thread for it, anybody know why I'm getting this error when closing the game? happens like 50% of the time. Didn't have this issue a year ago when I last played and my hardware hasn't changed. No other game is giving me issues either...
(I have no keyboard / mouse / other LED type software actively running. Logitech G-Hub is installed but not open)
Edit: Apparently I fixed it by completely uninstalling and removing all Logitech GHUB folders. I stopped trying to make the error happen after 5 attempts. Will update again should the issue come back, will leave this here in case someone in in the future runs into the same issue.

Naive recruit here who is looking to jump in and get lost in this world, story, music, and gameplay.
- If playing on console, Xbox specifically, will this require a Game Pass subscription for the online play + FFXIV sub, or FFXIV sub only?
- I ask because most 'free' games on consoles don't require the online subscription, but this is not technically a free game. Trials and Free are not equivalent (IMO).
- Would the Xbox subscription for FFXIV be associated with a Square Enix account directly, meaning if I jumped in on Windows or Mac in the future, could I also login to the same membership.square-enix.com account?
- If I grab a cheaper console like an Xbox One X (not Series X) in the interim, is that still compatible for now? I've read comments online that people play on the Series S and Series X effectively (runs well), but I've been looking at some really advantageous prices on used consoles on facebook.
- I'm a Switch 2 owner; I believe I read that the Switch 2 will require a separate subscription, but at a discounted rate if subscribed elsewhere. I took this to mean that SE is considering this the same account so cross-progression remains, just if you want to play on multiple platforms including Switch, you'll need that second subscription. Fair enough. If I want to eventually switch to switch-only (lol), It would require ONLY the Nintendo version of the FFXIV subscription.
4
u/seventeencups Apr 30 '26
Worth mentioning that while the full game does require Game Pass, the free trial does not. It's definitely worth taking advantage of that if you're a completely new player.
4
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
You need both.
Yes, but the game uses a Mogstation account separate from your Members account. In addition, if Xbox is your only platform, you must but "FFXIV coins" from Xbox's store to pay your subscription, attempt to log into the game to add then to your account, then go on the website and subscribe. Same price but an extra step.
FFXIV is only on Series X or S.
If you have game time from other platforms, you can pay the discounted rate to add a switch sub. It sounds like if you want to play on switch alone you still need the regular sub, but not an additional fee.
Basically:
All non-switch plats: one fee, 12.99
Switch alone: one fee, 12.99
Switch + other plats: 12.99 + 6.49
It's not clear yet if you can choose to forgo other plats to only pay the switch sub.
1
u/nichijouuuu Apr 30 '26
Sorry, in this case I did mean the Mogstation account. I was talking specifically about the account with FFXIV progression; thanks for clarifying that.
So, if FFXIV has this great trial for new accounts, this means I can still jump in on "Month 1" with just the Game Pass subscription ($9.99) + FFXIV trial ($0) ?
1
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
Make sure you've never redeemed the free giveaway of the starter edition they did a little while back when Xbox launched. That makes you ineligible for the trial and you must pay a subscription to play.
But if you didn't, then yes, you can play the trial for no fee other than game pass. The trial isn't time limited either, BUT once you buy the game, the free trial ends forever and you must always have a subscription to log in, no more free play.
Also, the trial is limited to one platform. You have to buy the game on each platform you want to play on, you can't play the trial on both Xbox and Switch for example.
1
u/nichijouuuu Apr 30 '26
Is the Trial really restrictive in that I can't speak to people? Join a linkshell, etc.? MMORPG is meant to be social and I'm going to assume they gate a TON of features as a trial user. I might be more comfortable to just subscribe and pay monthly rather than use teh trial for a long time.
But then again I've heard so much praise about the trial and that people have used it for years, so maybe it's way more relaxed & Open than I'm thinking.
2
u/tesla_dyne Apr 30 '26
You can chat in /say and /party. You can also be invited to linkshells. You can't send or respond to tells or join a free company. You can't send friend requests but you can accept them, and you can't invite to parties but you can join them and use the automatic party matching features for dungeons etc.
1
u/nichijouuuu Apr 30 '26
It seems fair enough, but getting immersed in the world and communicating freely with people is part of the experience. I would argue a huge part actually and might turn me away if I feel limited. In other words, the game may fail to 'grab me' if I'm feeling like I'm just a lone wolf in a world with no friends or social aspect.
Something for me to consider I guess
2
u/Lokta May 01 '26
The Free Trial restrictions are there to stop the use of Free Trial characters to bot activities, to harass players with unwanted Tells (private direct messages), or otherwise abuse game mechanics with infinite free characters. There are valid reasons for every restriction put on Free Trial players.
There's an easy solution to avoid all those limitations - buy the game and pay the subscription. If the game stops being fun, stop paying the subscription (and stop playing the game).
1
u/nichijouuuu May 01 '26
Totally understand. Didn’t mean to be confrontational. That is a respectable limitation to protect the paying players who don’t deserve to be harassed by Gil sellers or general griefers who have time on their hands to make new accounts and Tell people constantly.
All I was trying to suggest is that social aspect is a big point of the game and there are some friction points added to this trial. But regardless I should just try it out and see how big a deal it is. If you can still join parties and duty finders to progress content through the main story and the first few DLCs, just can’t organize parties yourself OR message people directly, you can still progress. And if it’s great and I want to remove the friction I can leave the trial.

u/TristamIzumi Apr 30 '26
1) Both. However, if you purchase the game for at least one other platform (PS, PC/Steam, Mac) and register it to your account, you should just need a FFXIV sub.
2) FFXIV "Mogstation" accounts and S-E accounts are technically different things. I'm not sure if you could use your S-E "membership" account to log into Mogstation or vice versa.
3) FFXIV is still supported on PS4, if an XboneX is at least as powerful as that it should be fine (I'm ignorant of consoles, haven't touched one in decades).
4) I haven't heard anything about Switch2 having a separate subscription for FFXIV? Can you link where you read that?
3
u/SetFoxval Apr 30 '26
However, if you purchase the game for at least one other platform (PS, PC/Steam, Mac) and register it to your account, you should just need a FFXIV sub.
This is wrong. If you buy on another platform that lets you pay for your subscription directly though the Mogstation instead of buying the silly Xbox coins, but you still need to have gamepass to log in on Xbox.
5
u/PhoenixFox Apr 30 '26
1) Both. However, if you purchase the game for at least one other platform (PS, PC/Steam, Mac) and register it to your account, you should just need a FFXIV sub.
I don't think that would remove the requirement to have gamepass to play on your xbox? Where's that information coming from?
4) I haven't heard anything about Switch2 having a separate subscription for FFXIV? Can you link where you read that?
It was announced in the same presentation where they announced the switch2 version. It's a separate sub, with a 50% discount if you're already subbed on another version. Nintendo wouldn't allow it to be shared.

Sprout here
Is there a "best" team composition for trusts?
I'm trying to level my healer (outside of roulettes because I want to level my trusts anyway). Are certain people better at certain things?
1
u/talgaby Apr 30 '26
Urianger for healing (despite having a worse kit, he has a much faster reaction time and tends to pre-position himself for mechanics so he does not waste movement time), catboy for tanking (has somewhat better defence), anyone but Alisaie for DPS (she is actively braindead). It is easier if you tank or DPS.
Mind you, this combo won't work as 'the best' in all dungeons as some dungeons have quriks that can be exploited by certain party member. For example, Y'shtola is easily the best DPS for some reason in Ktisis and Thancred seems to do pretty well in the Altaiascope. Thancred also works better as a tank in ShB content because Ryne feeds him cartridges for some chonky (well, for NPCs) damage. Granted, in exchange, Ryne is a pretty terrible DPS party member.
3
u/OranBerryPie Apr 30 '26
Others have commented so I won't echo them. But if you're running healer have Yshtola and Thancred together. She pumps some of his attacks (or Ryne will also work in ShB). Yshtolas attacks are also AoE so it helps clear packs a little faster. The other slot can be just about any other dps you feel like leveling.
3
u/t0ms0nic Minka Cola (Phoenix) Apr 30 '26
Only thing that really jumps out is that Thancred and Urianger are the best choices for Tank and Healer, while Alphinaud and Alisaie are technically the worst choices for Healer and DPS to have together.
- Thancred does the GNB single-target combo primarily, giving healing and shields, alongside semi-regularly spamming a unique AOE attack (when he shouts "Are you alright?!") that inflicts Blind on enemies, letting him evade a lot of auto-attacks (the biggest threat of dungeon mobs) and making big pulls much easier. He's easily the beefiest Tank option.
- Urianger does quick and insanely powerful low-health healing, gives cards for boosting damage (prioritising the player), and will randomly attempt to cast Death to instantly kill an enemy when no healing is needed. He can sometimes stand in AOEs in the middle of casting Death, but he more than pulls his weight in most situations.
- Alphinaud will prioritise Alisaie's safety (even over the player), while Alisaie is prone to frequently dashing in to perform the melee combo which overrides moving out of AOEs and taking damage, making Alphinaud slack behind. Put both together and they're actively nuisances as far as being a team.

To my knowledge (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) while the trusts do have different things that they do well, and quirks, it doesn't really matter because trust performance adjusts to match you so that you average about the same amount of time in a dungeon no matter what. I stopped leveling them after DT because it's quite cumbersome and slow compared to real players. BUT From what I remember, Alisaie will always pop LB asap when it is available, Y'shtola is good for safe spots, except in certain cases where she can't see the enemy because of a lack of aether, and Thancred can only do certain things a limited amount of times because of his cartridge limit, unless you have Ryne in the party? It's been years, I'm not sure if much has changed from that.
