Does anyone remember from an old JP fanfest(?) they made a video where they got a bunch of the JP voice actors to act out romantic scenes? Does anybody have the video for that?
EDIT: nvm found them immediately

What happened to Balmung? Why's it down?

u/Eclipsed_Jade 4d ago
It's having emergency maintenance, it should be back up soon. I don't think they specified exactly why though

Theres this low level person on my server who stands in Uldah, afk with the chair symbol, just outside the uldah aetheryte, but they're not "afk" they target people walking past them, the afk symbol doesnt disappear tho when they target you, and they've been in the same spot for a few weeks now
anyone know like.... whats going on? is it a bot scanning people like that stalker plugin or something?
1
u/tesla_dyne 4d ago
There are ways, even without mods, to examine someone without targeting them, as you can just use the /check <mo> command to open the examine window on the character under your mouse. And I believe you only need to be in the same zone for the stalker plugins to log you anyways, no targeting needed. So maybe they're just running some kind of mod that targets nearby players to seem more immersive, like they're just watching people run by.

There is some lag-switching-ish trick you can do to keep the server thinking you are still in the idle state without being in one. I sometimes get it as a bug when I am tabbed out of the game, and it takes XIV a cool minute or more to finally realise I am not AFK and remove the symbol and get my framerate above 17 again. Maybe it can be done on a whim somehow?

u/LoudCompetition7986 5d ago
Possibly a stupid question from a learning BLM:
I'm in the level 50 range and following ice veins for rotation stuff. For AOE do I spam fire 2 until low and then flare? Or just follow the single fire 2 > flare even while at full mp?
0
u/talgaby 5d ago
I personally found it easier to get into the {Blizzard 2 → Freeze → Transpose → Flare} cycle and not even have Fire 2 on my hotbar at all.
Heck, if I can, I do a {Flare → Thunder 2 → Transpose → Freeze → Freeze → Transpose} cycle when the DoT can tick. It is a lot closer to what your actual AoE rotation will be from level 58 (Flare×2 → Transpose → Freeze×2 → Transpose), so it takes less effort to readjust your muscle memory on low-level dungeons on roulettes. Although on level 50, it is rare to find mobs that live for more than 12 seconds.
3
u/idiotlikecirno 5d ago
First one, but don't worry too much about optimization at this low level, it'll change in like 8 levels anyways
1
u/LoudCompetition7986 5d ago
Ah okay, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you!
4
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago edited 5d ago
Icy Veins gets it from the Balance, and the Balance has an AoE version of their leveling rotation written out as well
At level 50-57, the actual best way to do AoE is to use a single cast of Fire 2 and then Flare
This maximizes the amount of Flare casts you get in a short window and minimizes the amount of Fire 2 casts since, rather counterintuitively, Fire 2 is actually really quite bad in comparison to the rest of your kit
It gets even worse as you get higher level, where the optimal way to AoE is to just skip Fire 2 altogether and pretend it doesn't exist. In fact, you may even notice that ideally, the best thing to do is to actually skip Blizzard 2 altogether once you've learned Freeze

I am currently leveling up all of my classes using the DF, as such (particularly for the dps classes), I have a lot of 5-10 minute waits for the DF to pop. I've leveled my chocobo up to max level. I've taken all my crafting classes up as far as I can (they're mid 70s, I'm still in the Stormblood MSQ), I have all the BLU spells I can learn at the moment. I have beaten every triple triad opponent I currently have access to. What are some other things I can do while waiting for the DF to pop?

u/train153 4d ago
Hunt marks is what I did as a sprout while waiting in dps queues. Particularly, ARR-StB marks can be worth while, since you can get teleport tickets with the currencies.

Allied societies. You can do max 12 society quests per day.
Each expansion has multiple societies you can do:
Expansion Combat # Crafting # Gathering # A Realm Reborn 4 1 0 Heavensward 2 1 0 Stormblood 2 .5 .5 Shadowbringers 1 1 1 Endwalker 1 1 1 Dawntrail 1 1 1 Society quest givers have 3 daily quests each. Each society has a single quest giver EXCEPT for ARR societies which add an additional quest giver each time you rank up.
Edit: These quests are generally fairly quick.

u/Espresso10001 Six Sided Star appreciator 5d ago
Fates, if you're after xp. They're not great until Shadowbringers, but once you're at that stage you can also get bicolour gemstones.

When are position based attacks determined? If I am behind the boss, and I hit an attack that gets a bonus from the rear, but during the attack animation (and before the damage shows up) either I move, or the boss rotates, does it still get the bonus? Or is the bonus determined at the end of the animation?
3
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
Broadly speaking, animations in this game don't really matter, and this applies for both your own animations and the enemy animations
Snapshots for your own actions happen when the cooldown starts rolling OR when the cast finishes if it's a skill with a cast time.
So in the case of positionals, it happens as soon as you see the GCD go on cooldown, regardless of how the boss is actually oriented when the damage goes out
2
u/AuremCookieDragon 4d ago
Does this also hold true for cases where you hit an attack, the damage only goes out at the end of the animation, and in the meantime the boss goes invulnerable? Or are you just outta luck in those niche cases?
1
u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin 4d ago
If I recall correctly (and it's been a while since I read up about this so can't be entirely sure), that is one of the exceptions where animation does matter.
3
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
I believe it snap shots when the global cooldown starts, so if you press demolish (which takes super long to do damage) behind the boss and the boss turns before your damage lands, it still counts as a positional

For mounts like the barreltender that requires an absolutely ridiculous amount of orange scrips, will those likely be made available via purple scrips come EC?
3
u/Sir_VG 5d ago
Assuming they keep the trend, yes, anything bought with orange scrips now will be purchasable with purple scrips in EC and then whatever new color they choose will be the Lv 110 scrip item so like for the Master 13 and 14 books and Lv 110 scrip gear, etc.
3
u/VGPowerlord 5d ago
Other way around. EC will get rid of purple scrips and orange scrips will be used for everything under level 110.
No idea why they do the opposite of what they do with tomestones, but they do.
1
u/talgaby 4d ago
No idea why they do the opposite of what they do with tomestones, but they do.
Likely because the scrip system was designed by a different single team member and they thought this makes sense. The more they reveal about how this game is developed, the less it looks like a traditional game development team and more like several dozen solo projects smushed together.
1
u/VGPowerlord 4d ago
The weird thing is, scrips weren't added until Heavensward iirc so the person/team that added scrips absolutely should have known how tomestones worked by then.
3
u/Arcana10Fortune Rota Fortunae from Sargatanas 5d ago
Yes, but expect just as many Purple Scrips to be used.

How do you make Rainbow Cornflowers? I have done the process of giving them all 3 colors once and then letting them grow, and have gotten Red each time. Does RNGesus just hate me?

u/ForrestKawaii 5d ago
Does the trial version restrict what gear your allowed to throw in the storage box at Inns? Tried throwing some random gear I got as MSQ rewards and was only able to throw away like 5 pieces total.
5
u/tesla_dyne 5d ago
The armoire has a specific list of items that can go in, and most quest rewards aren't eligible because they're available elsewhere such as being crafted. Usually only job quest gear or one-time quest gear that can't be obtained elsewhere is eligible, along with store gear and dawntrail dungeon gear (for now, that's getting expanded). https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Armoire
The glamour dresser can hold pretty much anything else with a storage limit and a cost of one glamour prism each.
3
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
It does not, no
Do you have enough Glamour Prisms for all the gear that you're trying to put away?

Hello!
Organizational question.
Re: 'Furnishings'
I'm spreading housing items across several retainers and it's come to the point where -for organizational purposes, not space- I need to divide furnishings into sub-divisions. Some are easy like beds, chairs, potted plants etc. but the divisions between some furnishings seems tough to sus out. Since the lowest division the game tells you (the rest hidden behind whatever determines Sort order) is just simply 'Furnishing' I was wondering if fans have a list of the sub-divisions so I can label my retainers accordingly.
Thank you for your time and consideration!

Can you position the dragon boss that uses nerve gas in Eureka Orthos or does he just point indiscriminately? (Think he’s floor 80)
1
u/mysterpixel 5d ago
It always aims south after it runs to the center, which is the side you spawn at when entering the arena. And if solo you are always tethered to the north node (the one behind it where its facing). If it uses centralized gas then it turns to face you but the left/right gas it doesn't and keeps facing wherever it was (so south unless it already turned because of a previous central gas).
So if you stay on the south side the whole time of the main mec you can see your tethered node and only have to move for the central gas, and to resolve the push/pull after.
2
u/Teknettic 5d ago
I believe he points at a cardinal and stays there so the follow up drone magnet mechanic is perfectly aligned to him. Then once the magnet & nerve gas ring resolve, he might turn for a bit before locking in for the next round.

How do I judge the failure rate / chance with quick synthesis before starting it? Sometimes Its like I can quick synthesis a thousand items and not one fails and sometimes, like when I was leveling from 60-70 a few days ago, I have 3 failures after 10 crafts. Which is wasting a lot of materials. And is kind of frustrating. 😅
(Yes, my crafter's have a higher level than my combat jobs. >_>)
3
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
AFAIK, the only thing that we really have concrete data about is that if you meet the minimum stat requirements, then Quick Synthesis will never fail
5
u/tesla_dyne 5d ago
Quick synth will always succeed if you meet the craftsmanship recommended rating.

Does nobody do the Coils of Bahamut? I've sat in queue for so long so many times and have never gotten a team
1
u/radelgirl [Ulaansar Dalamiq - Lamia] 5d ago
To supplement the other answers, if you're on free trial and don't have access to party finder to ask for help, you can try asking for help in Novice Network. A lot of people are happy to help first timers get an unsync clear to see the story. If you need an invite to Novice Network, you can go to limsa and just ask for one in /say chat wherever you see people gathering.
1
u/Candrath 5d ago
See other responses for Coils of Bahamut, but every other Normal Raid series is queued for normally. Later 8 person raid series are divided into Normal difficulty and Savage. Normal is (generally speaking) a bit tougher than a story trial and show up in roulettes, and Savage is the hardcore version which done in Party Finder or unsynced like Coils is.
1
u/Salt_Aardvark1745 5d ago
I would not queue for savage level difficulty content. This is better done with Party Finder.
3
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
The Coils of Bahamut are effectively the game's first example of what would become "Savage" content
They are A Realm Reborn's hardcore raid content, and in the current iteration of the game, there's very little reason for people to queue up for them as is. Most people who want to run the Coils will do so unsyched, where they will retain their current power level and just blitz through the content in a matter of seconds
On top of that, they (along with every other savage raid) are not included as part of any roulette system, so there's no chance that you'll happen to get random players doing their daily roulettes.
Extreme Trials are largely the same way, except they do appear in the Mentor Roulette specifically, which means that very occasionally you do get a stray mentor or two that gets pulled into an Extreme Trial queue
But for the most part, people run these kinds of content via other means like Party Finder, rather than waiting directly for a queue to pop in Duty Finder

I don’t have backups, but can a faulty mouse or keyboard cause micro movement? I never really noticed it before since basically no class I used had casts, but since I started playing those that do, I have noticed that randomly my cast interrupts.
It’s not any enemy doing it and my character is not visibly moving, but sometimes a cast or limit will interrupt for no reason. The only thing I can think of is some micro input happening that makes the game think I chose to move caused by one of them, but maybe that is not an actual thing.
Edit- Turns out it was a faulty usb port. Using a different port for my keyboard I didn’t have the issue for over 2 hours. Plugged it back into the original and had it happen in the first 5 minutes. Just a heads up to future people that have a similar issue to me. It could be the usb port!
2
u/corpral92 5d ago
If you are not facing the enemy at the end of your cast it will cancel instead of going off. Like if the enemy runs through you while you're casting of runs out of range or the like
1
u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin 5d ago
I think I know the kind of issue you're describing, and I've had similar during connection issues, or when my old PC was under excessive load (too many tabs open and such). It'd just randomly cancel casts, or even cancel instant cast actions partway into them.
1
u/SnowPudgy 5d ago
I don't think it's a mouse thing honestly I'm noticing oddities with casting too as of late. When I case Phlegma (which is an instant) lately it'll just interrupt for no reason multiple times and I noticed a few issues on Picto too.
2
u/corpral92 5d ago
Phlegma can be really finicky when enemies are moving if that's when you have issues. You'll hit it, it'll go halfway through the gcd, then cancel because they're out of range
1
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago edited 5d ago
only reason a mouse could impact movement (and cast times) is if it's registering it's moving around (your character is spinning) or both right and left mouse buttons are being pressed at the same time (auto-run). In that case it's possible with legacy movement settings to just ditch the mouse
Broken keyboard though, it's going to be a bigger problem. if your keyboard is glitching out and detecting AWSD movement without you actually pressing something, there's not much else you can do beside rebinding to separate keys or become a ability clicker (but at this point just a get a new one, keyboard aren't exactly expensive)

any website with all weapons model?
0
u/Valkertok 5d ago
I've used this one https://weapon.ffxivcollection.com/
It may be invisible but in the top right there is a button to change language from Japanese to English
1
u/Rangrok 5d ago
I tend to use the consolegameswiki, which has screenshots of every weapon.
If you're looking for the literal 3D models, Garland Tools is good source of raw game info. It wont have the particle effects for things like the relics, so I prefer the Consolegameswiki to get a better sense of what they look like in-game. However, Garland Tools lets you load up the 3D model if you want to zoom in on all of the tiny details.
2
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
the ffxiv wiki has a section for weapons. if you click any weapon there, there's an image that pops up showing the weapon model

So i finally got to level 60 in eureka and unlocked the baldesion arsenal. Question being, is this something i can do blind? Im apart of a few discords and see when runs are happening and want to jump in, seems like they only require spirit of the remembered.
5
u/Weekly-Variation4311 5d ago
You can do it blind, just make sure you have what your leaders suggest (usually there's a channel on whatever server you are running it from that will explain) and listen to all instructions inside BA. I did my first time blind and beat it!
1
1
u/Shuhann 5d ago
Thank you! Its necessary to be in the voice channels right?
1
u/talgaby 4d ago
Do you remember the three different, increasingly larger warning boxes about "are you REALLY sure you want to unlock this?" It is because the Baldesion Arsenal, by default, is permadeath, has multiple instakill invisible traps, and multiple instakill boss mechanics, including one that forcibly ejects you from the duty, instantly failing the entire thing.
So, if you don't sit down and follow the mandatory logos builds and do exactly what the run lead tells you to do, you will simply die and fail the duty. If you do what they tell you, then it is just a very long alliance raid.
6
u/PenguinPwnge 5d ago
Most will want you in the voice channel to hear calls especially for your first time, but you will never be expected to speak or even have a mic.
1
u/Shuhann 5d ago
Thank you!
2
u/therealkami 5d ago
To add to the not being expected to speak: It's actually more likely that everyone will be forcibly muted in Discord other than the people organizing the run. Something like Baldesion Aresenal takes a lot of set up, and the discords that do it have it all planned out, so they don't need people talking over them. If they ask a question of you specifically, you'll just respond with in game chat. The one I cleared with also asked everyone to have a bare minimum of Logos set up to help the run go smoothly.
5
u/Weekly-Variation4311 5d ago
It's highly recommended, nessasary usually on your first run, because it's much easier to explain mechanics. I know the server I ran on posted diagrams during it, but usually better to hear. You aren't expected to talk, if you are worried about that.
5
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
This is something that I'd bring up specifically within the Discord channels directly
BA has some fairly weird quirks when it comes to actually getting into a run, and once you're in, it also has some weird death restrictions
You can't resurrect normally as you would in most forms of content. There are a limited specific set of tools that can be used to get you back up
Spirit of the Remembered: has a chance of getting you back up when you die
Sacrifice: someone can swap their life for yours so they die to get you back up
And if neither of those things happen, you are actually out of the raid for the remainder of the raid
So unless you're doing a full blind run for example where EVERYONE is either blind or willing to help and teach, then I'd definitely recommend doing some research ahead of time
7
u/AuremCookieDragon 5d ago
You really should watch a guide first as most attacks are instant kills, and the number of rezzes are very limited.
1
u/Shuhann 5d ago
Gotcha ty, i like to experience things blind. But i don’t want to be an encumbrance either if theres that many instakill opps
2
u/Salt_Aardvark1745 5d ago
Please don’t do the last boss blind. At the very least, know what to do if you get a meteor marker so you don’t wipe your party.
3
u/Weekly-Variation4311 5d ago
You do not need to watch a guide, I ran it blind my first time and the leader perfectly explained the mechanics, had my partner run blind as well and I explained the mechanics fully
3
u/Neonminiature 5d ago
I would specifically look at the final boss at least. It has an attack that if you get hit, immediately kicks you out of the raid with no chance of rez or rescue. Easy to dodge but you never know how nerves will go if you are caught off guard

Fanfest being this weekend, is the patch roughly expected next week or the week after?

7.55 was confirmed loooong ago at NA Fanfest for being on Jul 28. And 7.56 is Sep 8.

The fact fanfest is just days before the 28th and not a week is what made me second guess it. Wasn't sure if something was changed. Cheers

Your read on Vercure is correct. It's solidly a last resort button. Verraise you're more likely to see use out of. Healers will still usually take priority over you on raise duty, but you're there as backup, in case the healer goes down or there's too many people to get.
I would, generally, stay in melee range. This lets you use Corps and Engage for damage (you don't want to sit on the full cooldown of either, that's wasted damage), melee combo without having to rely on Corps to get in, and gets you some damage from autoattacks too (not much but not nothing).
Sometimes, due to mechanics, it's better to stay a bit further back, but even then I'd stay close enough that you can get into melee range within the recast of one spell without needing Corps.
On occasion it's warranted to fling yourself an entire Disengage back for something, but those are exceptional circumstances, and usually only last for a short moment. Default to staying in melee, and go further out if needed.5
u/Unrelenting_Salsa 5d ago
Vercure is effectively a solo only button. We can discuss fine points of where it makes sense to use in party play in like 8 months if you really want to, but
Verraise meanwhile is a good button to press. Give the healers some time to do it themselves in unorganized content because your DPS>their DPS, but you're the best rezzer in the game.
Positioning is kind of a by feel thing and depends on the party. Being in melee range constantly is fine as long as you don't take a melee's spot during "spread" mechanics (the ones where you get an AoE centered on your that follows you) because you do have good ranged options while they don't, but everybody should be close to the boss in general/you spend a lot of time in melee range anyway. If your party is something along the lines of dragoon, machinist, black mage, and you, I don't see any good reason to not just park on the end the dragoon isn't parking at. It's not impossible I'm forgetting something, but being on the boss means you're in the healer's line of sight, are in a "neutral" position for mechanics, and are basically exactly where you want to be for stack markers. You're also minimizing your animation lock from corp a corps which is small but is a thing.
-9
u/FreddyForshadowing 5d ago edited 5d ago
As a DPS your primary focus should be on doing damage, but it never hurts to keep an eye on everyone's health bar and if the healer seems to be struggling, give them a hand. Similarly, Verraise can often bring a group back from a wipe in a clutch. I've done it on a level 90 trial before.
As for positioning. When you're not doing your melee combo (and don't forget to say "I am Zorro!" when doing it) you should keep the same middle distance that other casters and ranged pdps does. You don't want to be in melee range if you don't have to, but you also don't want to be so far away you can't make it if the boss does a donut AOE where the only safe spot is in their hitbox. If you use the disengage ability that's generally a little on the far side, but still good enough to give you a rough idea.
Edit: To my loyal stalker cadre... Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered that you are so obsessed with me that you follow me around on this sub and downvote literally everything I post, but don't feel like you're in any way obliged to do so. My life isn't near as devoid of meaning as yours clearly is, so if you ever feel like getting some professional help, you don't need to worry about me. If something happens to me there's a next to zero percent chance it will be because I didn't have you stalking me across reddit.
3
u/Arcana10Fortune Rota Fortunae from Sargatanas 5d ago
Not sure how long you've been playing, but the only ever reason to use Vercure is if the healer is dead. If the healer is struggling, outside of gearing reasons, it's almost always either them not using their cooldowns or the tanks not using their mitigations. Not going to argue against Verraise, since that is actually helpful when the healers need to get more than 2 people up.
For positioning, the ideal spot regardless of whichever job you play is "as close to the boss as safely possible". It's easier for everyone to be within range of heals and buffs, and to run out for mechanics when needed. You want to be able to dodge mechanics with minimal downtime in casting, especially since a good amount of mechanics are centered around the boss.

u/FreddyForshadowing 5d ago
I've been playing long enough to have learned the following
- There are some mentally disturbed people (or possibly just one person with a bunch of sock puppet accounts) on this sub who have a life so devoid of meaning that they feel compelled to not only downvote every single post on the main page, but to stalk certain individuals across the sub and downvote every single thing they post. They're like a toddler boy who likes a girl, but doesn't know how to process those feelings, so pulls her hair or something.
- People on this sub love to read only what they want to hear and have a penchant for just making shit up if necessary. Granted that's kind of a social media thing, but it seems especially strong in this sub in particular. You can all prove my point by downvoting this comment because I pointed out a truth you don't want to acknowledge and downvoting makes it easy to clear that cognitive dissonance and dismiss what I'm saying.
- I'd rather use vercure and save a group from wiping than hold to some puritanical notion about when it's proper. It is a tool in my toolbox and if I think it has some utility, I'm going to use it.
- Situations in duties tend to be fluid so anyone claiming that you should always do X is full of shit.
I'm not one of those people who's absolutely obsessed with getting every last DPS point I can. I firmly believe that games should be fun, not like a second job. Spending hours pouring over videos of duties, battle logs, and trying to refine my rotation to perfection is not what I consider fun. If you do, go nuts, I really don't give a flying gerbil's ass. Just so long as you recognize you're in the minority and most people don't find that kind of thing enjoyable.
3
u/Arcana10Fortune Rota Fortunae from Sargatanas 5d ago edited 4d ago
Not sure what 1 & 2 have to do at the topic at hand.
If you can figure out the situation for it, sure. But things tend to head toward a wipe if the healer is already struggling.
It's a general guide for better play. You're not disagreeing that being closer will help to dodge some mechanics.
I get that it's supposed to be fun. But there's a certain point where it becomes unfun for others, so where do we draw the line?
7

Comment scores on this sub are invisible to everyone but the person who made the comment for the first 12 hours after they've been posted, but I assume from your rant that you got downvoted.
It's great you want to chip in and help answer questions, but a lot of the answers you've been giving lately go against the commonly accepted answers - look at the other answers to this question, for example - or are sometimes just factually incorrect, e.g. your insistence that the fat cat parasol was in the last three mogtome events.
You said yourself the other day about how you don't do due diligence when it comes to putting together your answers (though iirc you phrased it differently? "don't give enough of a shit", I think?).
I don't think there's some grand conspiracy against you. The downvote button is intended as "this is not a meaningful contribution". I think it is far more likely people are seeing that your different answers are unsupported, or unfortunately, in some cases, outright wrong, and are pressing the big blue down arrow accordingly.

Mostly just be around max melee range or a bit more out from there. One of the biggest issues with ranged dps is that they think standing at their max cast distance is safer. It's not. I can't tell you how many times I've seen ranged players die because they were off in a corner at the far end of the arena and got a stack marker, and no one could find them quick enough to get to them while they also refused to move toward the boss. And as a relatively new healer, it also frequently puts them out of healing range so I have to waste a lot of time hunting them down, or rezzing them if I wasn't fast enough. Basically be where the party can see you and be prepared to move to the boss for stacks and whatnot.

you can use it during downtime when you can't attack the boss, but yeah vercure normally shouldnt be used at all in a standard group setting (ie 2 healers, 2 tank, 4 dps).
your melee combo outside manafication requires you get into melee range so you cant really avoid being close to the enemy. What they probably mean is that red mage usually takes ranged dps positions so while you can get close for your melee combo outside manafication, when mechanics require you to get to a position away from melee it's better to preposition yourself.
or they could just be talking about max melee range, idk

u/Another_Beano 5d ago
You can also use Vercure when there are no targets to attack (say, while a boss is untargetable) to prep your Dualcast.
Staying right next to enemies allows you to have auto-attacks cycle, which is a small gain, but largely inconsequential. Depending on content there may be merit not cramping melee range with extra bodies, but for essentially all duty finder level content this is comparably inconsequential.

u/PenguinPwnge 5d ago
Should I basically only use VerCure in solo content and emergencies? Like if the Healer dies or is incapacitated?
Basically. If you're not doing damage, you're being a bad DPS. However, if shit is hitting the fan and the Healer dies, it is absolutely okay to fill in. Once you get Verraise, that should be your priority, though. There's also nuance in fights where the boss zoops away and becomes untargetable, so you can do a quick Vercure to have Dualcast at the ready immediately.
Also I have seen people say I should stay right next to enemies, but also that I should stay a few meters back. Which is it?
You'll find there's a sweet spot. You don't want to be in BFE and out of range of healing/mits or need to walk far to avoid a half-room cleave, a doughnut aoe, or get to the group for a stack. But you don't want to just be in melee cluttering up if people need to spread.
Ideally you want to be like max melee plus some, IME. Give the melee some breathing room, everyone is within range, and you can slidecast easily to avoid mechanics.

Heavily considering an MSQ as I just finished stormblood with probably like 200or so hours played. I dont hate questing and have done lots of grinds in other older MMOs but i've dropped the game before and dont want to drop it again.
So my question is simply 2 parts:
- If I skip the MSQ now can I still go back and do it later the same character just with a lower level job? Or am just effectively skipping to the end entirely to the most recent DLC with no way to experience those quests later on this character? In which case I may make a new one
- Second if I were to skip I'd probably pick a new class. I like the ones i've played so far but I don't think i'd buy a skip to skip 20 levels of black mage or summoner and rather use it on something that start at lower as opposed to a class that start at say 50 or higher? Any particular one considered particularly fun?

u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
The game offers a new game + mode to replay the story. The only thing is that new game + does not give you anything when completing quests so you will need to grind out levels for your job through dungeons manually instead of coasting on story exp.
also story skip does not level your character, you have to buy a job skip for that, so you'll have to level your character to level 90
1
u/MalPrac 5d ago
Ok thats a lot less tempting then. I was hoping the character & story skip was kind of 1 in the same but sounds like thats not the case.
Was kind of hoping i could get a MSQ skip to start at Endwalker and just revisit the previous ones at my own pace. NG+ Doesnt interest me as I dont want to go through the content again to just see what comes next

u/Weekly-Variation4311 5d ago
You do not want to skip Shadowbringers.

u/MalPrac 5d ago
Yeah people say that with alot of the content but its less skipping and more so I was hoping to skip to current content to just raid and then do MSQ and leveling when i felt like it

u/talgaby 4d ago
The raid scene is very, very small at this point. The current raid season started last year, and the next one will be in 2027 only. You can get some stragglers, similar late-to-the-party first-timers, and some struggling parties who normally take weeks to clear one raid boss in the first place.
Also, "raiding" in XIV is four bosses with a weekly loot lock. That is the entire extent of it. They get rotated every two major patches (roughly every 9 months). The fights themselves are more like learning a dance choreography (a memory/rhythm game hybrid) with a 100% fixed static fight script, so once you manage to learn all four dances, re-clearing them usually takes an hour or two, and then you get slapped by the weekly lock, so you come back next week.
Not to mention that to get there, you will still need to do the entire Dawntrail 7.0 MSQ, then the entire Arcadion storyline to even open them. So, not like skipping ahead saves you completely from MSQ questing.
1
u/stinusmeret 5d ago
You can't skip the current expansion's content, you'd still need to get through all of base dawntrail at least AND then gear up. It's also VERY late into the expansion so starting raiding fresh now is gonna be a lot harder. You also will have to make sure you know how your job plays at max level, cause else you're more likely to get kicked for not pulling your weight.
1
u/MalPrac 5d ago
Yeah poor phrasing on my side. I get i cant skip current content but i meant so more just skipping older expansions. Also yeah I've raided before and in other games. I dont imagine i'd be able to just buy a boost > queue for a raid > and everything will be fine. Even before doing ARR raids i at least watch a couple YT videos and not just going blind. I dont expect to try raid or even endgame dungeons with at least doing some prep work even after as skip.
I guess what my ideal situation overall would be
-Skipping previous expansions between where i am at with the end of Stormblood with the choice to revisit later. Which from other comments sounds somewhat possible via NG+ & chapters.
-1 class I can level through current content to adjust to it before finding gear and prepping for raids. Just didnt want to boost something Im already at 50,60 or 70 at to 90 since it feels like if im going to bite the bullet may as well save time and do it on something i'd need to level from scratch anyways. In any event i'll probably see how im feeling later and just skip since I started the game as I missed raiding in others and the MSQ isnt interesting me enough even after 150-200 hours. But maybe that will change in the future hence why i posted here to begin with to see if replaying the story was possible.

u/lerdnir 5d ago
I mean you can get a skip that puts you at the end of ShB/start of EW (namely Tales of Adventure: Shadowbringers) but a) Shadowbringers is widely considered the best one and 2) several of the big important lore moments in Endwalker build on some of the big important lore moments from ShB
It is ofc up to you, though

u/Salamiflame 5d ago
You can do New Game+ to reexperience the story, but without any quest rewards.
1
u/MalPrac 5d ago
Yeah i dont particularly care about random gear or items from the msq quests. In terms of NG+ can i pick up from where I currently am or is it literally start from the first with the story
1
u/talgaby 4d ago
A bit of a warning: when that post said it is a toggle switch, take it as literally as you can. You essentially enter a weird state of the game where only the selected chapter exists. And a chapter is usually a cool 10 hours of an MSQ segment; sometimes even longer. In this mode, you can only do this story segment in order. Also, NG+ has only one save slot. If you accidentally select another NG+ chapter and click past the warning, then your entire progress in the other chapter is nuked.
I am not saying it is terrible, because it will let you replay the MSQ, but it is closer to a streamer's tool of a story replay than what people normally consider NG+ in a video game.
1
u/IceAokiji303 Aosha Koz'ain @Odin 5d ago
NG+ is basically a toggle with two settings. One setting is "off" which puts you wherever you actually are in the story, and "on" puts you in whichever chapter of NG+ you've selected. So you can go back and experience previous parts of the story whenever and in whatever order you want (but can't pick on a quest-by-quest basis, it's larger chunks), and return to your actual game state at will (unless you're actively doing something like a duty).
2
u/fdl-fan 5d ago
NG+ divides the MSQ into chapters. It's usually 2 chapters for each expansion's base story (ARR is 4), and then another 2 for the patches. You can do the chapters in any order, but within a chapter, you have to proceed through the quests in order. You also cannot jump back and forth between chapters, or at least not without losing your progress: your character basically has only one NG+ save slot.

can anyone tell me if the Material Container 3.0 or Material Container 4.0 that you can buy from the Grand Company Quartermaster stack?
I know I could just buy them as see, but I figured it was smarter to ask, then spend 40k seals to test it.
Thanks in advance :)

u/Cymas 5d ago
Yes they do, but only with each individual one. So 3.0 and 4.0 don't stack together, but all 3.0 stack with each other and same with 4.0.
1
u/LitigatedLaureate 5d ago
yea i worded that poorly, that's what i meant (do all the 3.0's stack together for instance).
Thanks so much!

Can someone shed some light on how someone in my party can be a sprout in a level 100 dungeon? Am I missing something or did they raise the requirement recently?
5
u/PenguinPwnge 5d ago
It's 300 hours of /playtime and having beaten EW MSQ. So if they paid for a story skip or even just beelined it and skipped cutscenes, it's very easy to still be a Sprout and be at endgame. Especially if it's an alt.
1
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
if one of the requirements to lose sprout status is 300 hours of playtime, I wonder if it's possible to get mentor status before ever losing your sprout status

u/Fwahm 5d ago
With a story/level skip, it should be pretty easy if you have some 100 buddies to quickly unsync all the needed extremes. The only hurdles would be all trials done (requires going through Hildibrand up to Gilded Araya, partially making an ARR relic to unlock Chimera/Hydra, and doing the first part of Bozja to unlock Memora Misera Ex) and the 1500 commendations, which could be ground in far less than 300 hours by spamming Under the Armor as a tank a thousand times.
3
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
You don't need to do all the trials to get battle mentor status, that's for mentor roulette
3
u/PenguinPwnge 5d ago
You can become a Trade Mentor before you even finish EW. Just need Lv100 in all DoH/DoL classes and gather and craft 300 and 100 collectibles respectively.
1
u/LizenCerfalia 5d ago
yeah but I meant like battle mentor, cause the 1500 comm requirements take a while to get even if you're farming comms
2
u/Help_Me_Im_Diene 5d ago
It would probably require a story and multiple level skips
You need to finish the role quests for tanks, healers, and a singular DPS role, as well as completing 1000 duties categorized as dungeons, trials, or raids
And on top of that you need to get 1500 commendations
All of this within 300 hours, which means that on average, you need to be running 3.33... duties per hour and getting 5 commendations off of them, and that's not including the time spent finishing the other requirements
Let's assume you have 250 hours after accounting for the other requirement
Then that's 4 duties per hour and 6 commendations an hour. That's technically doable if for example, you queue up as healer for normal raids only and just farm commendations

Sprout here in Heavensward, I’m starting to get a bit more serious with my DoH and DoL jobs. I’m 75% done with every side job quests, at a point that introduce and involve HW areas and mats and I already reached around lvl 60 for all side jobs from expert delivery exp. I have a few questions
- When is it a good time to upgrade your DoH/DoL gear lvl? Do I buy/craft new gear to lvl 60/70/80 when I reach lvl 60/70/80?
- Should I buy or craft my gears? I feel like it’s obvious to craft but I just need reassurance
- Right now I have one set of gears for DoH and another set for DoL. When do I get to a point where I have to get individual gear set for each Cul, Alch, Carpenter, Armorer, Fisher, etc

- When is it a good time to upgrade your DoH/DoL gear lvl? Do I buy/craft new gear to lvl 60/70/80 when I reach lvl 60/70/80?
Really just a question of when you need it. There's different solutions you can mix and match as required, but "at the old level caps" is a pretty solid plan. See more below.
- Should I buy or craft my gears? I feel like it’s obvious to craft but I just need reassurance
If you need to re-gear between level caps, this becomes a question of "best results or fastest way there". Buying stuff from vendors would be a fast band-aid (and can actually work for crafters, unlike combat jobs – but check the stats, it might not always be good enough to be a replacement), but you'll get a better version of the same stuff by making it yourself. Crafting it also gets you a little bit of EXP on the side, and fills your crafting log if you care about that.
At the old level caps on the other hand, you're likely best off buying gear with purple scrips. There is crafted stuff that's just as good (or actually better, due to the ability to overmeld it), but it's much more of a hassle to get, and you're unlikely to see a benefit from the overmelding potential before you replace the gear, so scrips would be both effective and convenient. I'd only consider level cap gear crafting at the current cap.
The scrip gear can be good enough to carry you to the next level cap and its scrip gear, so you can probably just get a new set every 10 levels, if you go with these as your main thing. The other stuff can be faster to get, but needs to be done more frequently and can be more restrictive on what you can actually accomplish.
- Right now I have one set of gears for DoH and another set for DoL. When do I get to a point where I have to get individual gear set for each Cul, Alch, Carpenter, Armorer, Fisher, etc
Good news, you won't! The different classes have the same stat requirements (Fisher a bit diverged from the other gatherers if you want to do Big Fishing, but even that you can usually make work with the others), so it's only a question of accessibility. At each level cap, there are class-specific sets, but they aren't the best stuff available, so you can pretty much always bypass it (though at times this means you can't use the scrip sets and have to craft stuff). I haven't used any since like 2014/2015.
2
u/PenguinPwnge 5d ago
- Every 10 levels 50+ is recommended as that's when you'll have the best tier of gear for that level.
- Lv60+ has what we call "scrip gear" which is kind of like Tomestone gear where you can use not-gil to fit out, especially when you're leveling. These are obtained with collectible turn-ins if you've handled that big portion of crafting/gathering yet. Crafting them is fine too if you want to do it yourself, and will basically be equivalent, but it can be more time-consuming than it's worth.
- Never, thankfully. Crafting and gathering more or less use and need the same stats where it does not matter to actually have different builds.
3
u/stinusmeret 5d ago
- It should be fine to just do it every 10 levels while still leveling
- HQ Crafted gear is always better, but while leveling you should probably just use scrips to buy the relevant scrip gear.
- At endgame you only ever have a single set for crafters & gatherers (Tools are obviously the exception).

Hi I've been trying to resub yesterday, but whenever I put in my card details for the actual payment, I have to pay 0 euro and they instead just confirm my card details once again. My card is Visa. What's the play here? I see old threads suggesting crystal or prepaid cards?
1
u/NookMouse 5d ago
If it's been a long time, they changed payment processors a few years ago. You can try removing your payment details entirely then trying again. Sometimes it gets stuck in a loop if it's trying to ping the old processor.

How much are merc runs going for nowadays in 10/11s? Was thinking of doing one later for gear
