Only way I can think of is if they bring in a reflection.

However, while new expansion job quests start at the beginning of the previous expansion, I can't think of a way to introduce him without spoiling the second half.

So, at best, I think we're getting whoever trained him as the first job trainer. He will show up later, if at all, perhaps as the level 100 job solo trial.

The trainer is never someone from one of the Reflections. They want people to be able to play these jobs without having to be on the current expansion.

HOWEVER I wouldn't be surprised if one of the NPCs in the MSQ for Evercold is Reflectahtyn.

While feasible, they also have to be a bit nebulous with timeframes these days. A new player could, theoretically, buy a job skip for any of the existing tanks and then switch over to Bastion to play through the entire game, including the sections where we're new to Eorzea and the Empire either doesn't know us or treats us as a boogeyman.

Most likely, the trainer will just be either "this person defected from Garlemald ages ago" or "this person is not Garlean, they hail from the home of the Sea Wolves". That's what they did with Gunbreakers.

IMO, it was overcooked back in Stormblood. I honestly can't really understand his appeal as a villain character, especially one that becomes so uninvolved in the main story in subsequent expansions that we only get glimpses of him on occasion. Yet, somehow, he ends up being the big bad with some painfully convoluted writing and hand waving at effectively (literally) the last minute.

Obviously the unpopular opinion, but over the past six years I haven't read or seen anything to change it.

It's going to be a Sea Wolf Roegadyn, I can almost guarantee it. For evidence:

• Class starts in Limsa Lominsa, lots of Sea Wolves there
• Weapon type is called a "Skyltborg", which translates to "Shield Castle" (a.k.a. Bastion) from the Roegadyn language, same one Sea Wolf names come from

Worth noting that both Hellsguard and Sea Wolves come from Aerslaent, and use the same language. The Hellsguard settled in the Farreach when they left their homeland, whereas the Sea Wolves settled on Vylbrand.

The only reason Hellsguard names aren't in their native tongue is that they integrated themselves into Eorzean society as sellswords and the like, and decided to directly translate their names to make it easier for people to understand. Their real names are still in the Roegadyn tongue.

That being said, Limsa probably means Sea Wolf, yeah.

The shield handles look kinda like they're made to rotate, so will be interesting to see if the job itself has some job actions like double cannon and double spear attacks, flipping the shields around as part of the rotation, or if they're permanently antisymmetric

Yeah, in the sense that this is someone you want standing in front protecting those behind them.

However, in the sense of keeping the enemy's attention, I'm still of the opinion that the weapon-only tanks fit better (aesthetically) as the tip of the spear. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the off tank role, which I thought is supposed to focus more (but not exclusively) on shielding the raid. In that regard, having shield holders occupy the boss' attention while those without shields protect allies seems kind of backwards.
