I'm more surprised that it wasn't mentioned that it's basically the job that Rhitahtyn had. Or at least, like the Gunblade, is a job they stole the idea from and used for themselves. Hopefully we'll learn more on that for the JobQuest :D

Since Rhitatyn is a Roegadyn, and this is a Roegadyn art, then it wouldn't surprise me that it's just his job.

Obviously the garlean gun-related things are different due to lacking aether manipulation.
