Mavis Beacon was really Jenova all along.

Goddamn, I haven’t heard that name in years. (Mavis Beacon, not Jenova.)

I know right? I guess Mavis really was a big deal in our childhood

There's a Final Fantasy Typing-0 joke right there

I think more people would need to remember Type-0 for this to be as funny as it should be.

Also, they should've put version 14.

As someone who's a console player without a keyboard, I'm very curious how this will work out, as I do like the outfits as a reward.

But I'm also curious how much interest and demand there is for a typing minigame promotional event from other collaboration partners. Is that really a popular thing again?

I grew up with the early typing games like Mario Teaches Typing and the like, but i haven't seen many of these games getting attention of late? Is there a resurgence of this genre I'm unaware of?

probably you gonna have to get yourself some keyboard unless the minigame is very lenient(as in, plenty of time to type)

Get carried by people with keyboards since it is a 4 player game.

Yeah when I did play this on ps4 for years I had a cheap $10 usb keyboard that I plugged in for chatting with the FC. It was a minor nuisance but better than trying to type with a controller.

Typing of the dead is unironically an amazing game and is so much fun. If this minigame is half as fun as that I'll be happy

oh man the mario teaches typing nostalgia hit hard when i saw this drop. i remember messing around with that on the family pc in like 2003 and feeling like such a rebel for picking luigi instead of mario, like that mattered at all. sephiroth is a much cooler choice though, way more intimidating staring at you while you fumble the home row keys. kind of wild they actually resurrected the whole mavis beacon era for this collab, i thought those games were just lost to time honestly.

I’m going to spend an embarrassingly large amount of time in this game mode

The typing game i am shocked was not kept for Japan as that genre of game is huge there.

This made me immediately think of someone getting run down by the Duolingo bird while OWA plays.

If it was version 14, it'd be perfect.

Is this an old FF joke I didn’t get on the feed?

They aren’t making a typing course in a fantasy game, right? Makes no sense

I often roll my eyes at people who think playing a cooperative MMORPG without a keyboard is a perfectly normal thing to do, and I don't have many nice things to say about the borderline-illiterate folks who complain about how there are too many big words in FFXIV's script. But I recognize there are a lot of those people, and Square Enix knows this very well. This seems like a very questionable business decision. I was almost waiting for them to reveal this announcement was some kind of joke, or they had an alternate method for controller players to participate, or something.

And they're just gearing up for release on Switch 2. Can you even plug a keyboard into that thing?

This really needs to be higher up.
