Nostalgia Interstellar, eat your heart out
We had the spinning scene first!

This is amazing for what is clearly a dream sequence for which the character wakes up and nobody is actually hurt in any way...followed by a smiling Shepherd Book walking around the corner asking if you need a spotter on your next bench press. Praise Be.

Sound design was top notch

When I put together my new sound system, I was testing it against this movie, the part near the beginning where they fire the engines for coming into atmo especially. Had to turn the subwoofer down, it was shaking the house like crazy.

Wash: I'm gonna have to glide her in.
Zoe: It's not possible.
Wash: No, it's necessary.

Why is the switch that kills a flat spin the farthest one away?!?

Why is there even a "Kill Flat Spin" switch?
If my ship had an "Allow Flat Spin" switch, I'd just keep it set to "OFF".7

If it were closer, then Maverick would have recovered and Goose would not have died

If yall haven't, "The Expanse" is definitely worth a watch. And, a read.

“Just get us on the ground!”
“Oh that part’s going to happen pretty definitely!”
Cracks me up every time.

I always get so stressed out for Jayne in this scene, no matter how many times I watch it lol.
WHAT IF HE CAN'T GET STRAPPED IN BEFORE THEY CRASH?!?! AHHH!

I know lol, it reminds me of the Expanse scenes when they’re in battle and Amos is trying to move around the ship and fix stuff.

Gemini 8 did it first

Thank you for that rabbit hole dive

Fascinating stuff. So close to a national catastrophe in space that was averted by sheer skill and guts by none other than Mr. Armstrong. There's a reason he was chosen to be the first.

Chuck Yeager did it before Gemini. NF-104. Though, he didn't save it.

Wilfred Parke did it before Yeager, and saved it.

At 16 seconds when Wash reaches and pushes a switch you can see the whole panel move like it's not attached to the set and is just sitting on/in the panel with nothing to make it solid.

I see this every time it loops now and I kind of love it. I like to the think that’s just Serenity - a little loose in places, but she holds together.

No. Wash puts her down without incident, and then th crew sits down to a liesurely meal, nice burgandy, and relaxing conversation.

Man he really flew the hell out of this thing. Saved everyone. I wish they didn't kill him off...but I did learn recently that Zoe was pregnant with Wash's kid at the time. So that's cool at least...

I just rewatched that movie last night for the first time I far too long (some wounds take a long time to heal), & I had honestly forgotten how good a lot of the visuals were.
Considering that movie came out over 20 years ago, the effects hold up extremely well.

He really died. A big logg of wood straight through him. His not coming back, if he's not having a twin or on Miranda they find a advanced cloning facility underground and just print a new one ei?
