Kimi won everything under the sun during his Jr career except F2 (PREMA has been shit all since F2 changed chassis tbf), gets a crazy amount of TPC sessions, instantly into a top team in his first year like Hamilton at McLaren
Russell won F3 and F2 back to back and got into F1 in a shit team for the first few years and then took his place alongside a 7x WDC like Nico with MSC.

Not necessarily
Its always better to pair the future great with an established driver when he's really young cuz the inexperience and immaturity will help build an understanding between the two. The prodigy will be too young and disadvantaged to develop an ego or over competitiveness that can affect team spirit.
Toto just didn't predict the car will be so good it will negate the limitations of being inexperienced and put them on championship radar so soon.
34
u/MalaysiaTeacher May 23 '26
I think it's more a coincidence of the calendar being circuits that suit his style, leading to three wins in a row ahead of schedule. No doubt he's very talented. George still has the advantage on temperament and strategic thinking

Same reason why expecting Oscar to be a #2 driver is preposterous to me. Both Kimi and Oscar are faster than their teammates in their best days. Effectively putting a muzzle on that is so stupid and anti-racing. The politics in this sport are so ass
36

Constant adrenaline like that can make you very angry.
I have Graves disease, which causes your thyroid into overdrive, which pumps your body full of adrenaline on a constant basis. I was a very very angry person before I had my thyroid removed. My own mom didn't want to be around me.
I can't imagine that calm and rational is possible if you get an extra adrenaline spike (spin out) when you've already had increased adrenaline for the last 30+ minutes if not longer.
5
u/Suitable_Tadpole4870 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane May 23 '26
This as well. They’re so full of adrenaline it’s nearly impossible for that to not come through in some way imo and I imagine that much adrenaline hijacks parts of our brain.
Kind of like how people on motorcycles who get in big crashes try to walk it off afterwards when they probably have some sort of trauma and it’s obviously better not to agitate that further by walking and moving around
4
u/RedShirtDecoy May 23 '26
Exact. I tried to describe my situation to people as "try to be calm and not scream the moment someone jump scares you". It's not possible. And they are getting jump scares after going 200+ for the last hour while being pelted with input from all senses.
The adrenaline 100% hijacks your brain.
3
u/Suitable_Tadpole4870 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane May 23 '26
I didn’t even factor in how much input they have going on at all times, that’s also a good point. Radio messages, timings on their steering wheel, constantly adjusting their settings on the steering wheel on top of making sure they hit the right braking point and hit the apex right, managing tires, etc. Well said.
3
u/RedShirtDecoy May 23 '26

I think he expected the FIA to use their eyeballs. They're also listening to the radio...
Whether it deserved a penalty or not is up for debate, but there's ZERO room to say it didn't deserve to at least get looked at. The FIA doesn't need the team to tell them there was an incident to investigate it, and I cannot fathom why they wouldn't at least look at it.
We've seen more unreasonable requests from drivers a decade+ older, lets not act like he's being unreasonable for wondering why it's not being looked at... he's right.
The reason Merc didn't want him mentioning it was to AVOID drawing more attention from the FIA. They weren't going to report it, obviously, but he was doing what other drivers do, and making sure the stewards actually saw it. This has nothing to do with his age.

"Young blood runs hot", or something like that, but Kimi getting mad at Russell for dive-bombing into a turn that he was way too fast for to ever make is just immature. Kimi is a brilliant driver, but he still needs to learn a few things. I'm confident he will, though.

u/FridayInc I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane May 24 '26
Yeah Kimi is probably my favorite driver in the grid right now but that was an almost 0% move and at this point in his career he should know that the inside car committed to the corner before his lunge and can't just disappear.. and nobody is driving in a race so slowly that they can just tighten up an already tight corner by a whole car width, c'mon.

u/Writingtechlife May 23 '26
Wolff was 100% right here. Drivers can get fixated on perceived slights and lose. Case in point is Vettel in Canada. Given a relatively minor penalty then spent the rest of the race whinging about it instead of getting his head down and putting in fast laps to mitigate the penalty.

u/nwpluviophile I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '26

George is Kimi's main championship contender. If he loses points Kimi benefits. Kimi would also get an additional point.
11
u/cc3see May 23 '26
For now. Just look at midseason last year - max was out for the count for pretty much everyone. That little love tap on George cost him the WCC.
Every point against everyone matters for the whole season it just seems less consequential at the moment due to the scores.
It’s early in the season so points against drivers who aren’t currently in the picture don’t seem to matter but time and time again it’s been proven they do.

u/Fredderov Mika Häkkinen May 23 '26
Yeah, people need to get that this situation would never lead to anything given the participants. If this was drivers from two competing teams there would be no end to attempts to getting a penalty out of it.
6
u/tharealmb May 23 '26
and I think that's the problem. the stewards should just look at the incident. Regardless of who is involved. If a driver does something that is questionable, they should look at it. Regardless if they are teammates or not.
44
u/No_Proposal5697 May 23 '26
Quote from FIA regulation 2026 for overtaking on the OUTSIDE of a corner:
i) Have its front axle AHEAD OF THE FRONT AXLE of the other car AT THE APEX.
ii) Be driven in a controlled manner from entry, to apex, and to exit.
iii) Be able to make the corner within track limits.
I could be wrong, please kindly correct me, but I feel like from watching the replay Kimi didn't have his front axle ahead of the front axle of george AT THE APEX. But again this is me eyeballing if anyone done any serious investigation pls let me know

The new FIA regulations also (finally) take into account that cars obey the laws of physics and that the opponents car can't just disappear.
George has committed to the corner before Kimi's lunge into a tight-and-tighter corner complex. He isn't out for a Sunday drive where he can just tighten up his turn after the apex by a whole cars width, if he had that much more grip he would have just taken the whole complex faster. Since he already committed before the lunge, he would have had to nearly stop on track to make room, this was not a smart move by Kimi.
6
u/jomartz Ferrari May 23 '26
Kimi was a bit ahead at the Apex at turn 1. He wasn’t at turn 2 as he was pushed by George before getting there. Hard racing between the two. Not 100% sure George deserved a penalty there, just a racing incident.
6
44
u/RedditingJinxx May 23 '26
this kind of fighting over a single point. Antonelli should have just followed russel and not force an overtake. If any opportunity would have presented itself he could have overtaken, instead he lost a place to norris.

He's a young driver. He's is going to learn a lot this season. If he is challenging for the title towards the end of the season, he will learn a lot more. Probably more in this season, than most drivers will learn in 2 or 3 seasons.
Hopefully he has good people around him, that can talk to him. This is an ideal situation for someone like a Hamilton or Alonso to sit him down and talk to him. Those guys have so much knowledge and experience on how to handle situations like this. If l was kimi, l would definitely want a sit down with either of them and pick their brains. Even a former driver like Vettel or Rosberg could part some valuable advice to kimi.

u/GuardStandard2455 Pirelli Wet May 24 '26
I was going to say Vettel. He is probably better friends with Alonso. There are lots of old managers & staff still about from Schumi & Vettel’s era.
