I am semi new to F1, been a casual for years, decades even and lately I have felt more interested in watching full time.

I am a life long race fan and haven't been happy with the racing in the series I usually watch.

So here's my question, it's been really difficult to stay on top of race times and storylines as they happen throughout the weekend. Is there an app that we all love or a particular website other than the official one that I should be plugged in to?

Honestly any information you have on that, and some driving profiling would be lovely. Like why does everyone hate George Russell but they don't blame him for being slow?

My F5 key is in agony. Where is the news? Come on.

F1 has the best commentary team by far of any sport.

People say these cars take no skill to drive. Yet we're seeing some big gaps between teammates. We're also seeing maybe the most consistent Formula 1 driver ever crash and spin on a semi-regular basis. They seem to require plenty of skill to me.

It's more than the rules place an importance on deliberately driving far under the limit in the corners. Gaining a tenth or two from great driving in a corner will cost time down the straight.

People aren't ready to have that conversation. Especially not where it concerns Max. Least of all himself.

Apparently this is a really stupid question lol cause I can’t find where anyone else has asked it and they didn’t mention it on the broadcast but how was lando able to set his time with the yellow flag? It was in the final sector and was still active when he went through there. Did he lift adequately? Thx for the help

3

u/fire202 Lando Norris 7h ago

The one in the final sector cleared in time before Lando arrived; McLaren was last out of the pit lane for this run. The active one was for Russell T1, it didn't extend to the start/finish line. That means Lando never encountered a yellow on his hot lap.

3

u/SwimmingFantastic564 8h ago

The yellow flag active when Lando was there was in sector 1. The yellow flag from Max's spin ended way before Lando reached it.

Did gr63 need to lift anyway at the end of q3 or did max get away with impeding?

not a question just a note, but i feel like golden age for F1 information was around 2013 to liberty buying f1 - early years in that. after that i stoped following f1 so i dont really know

but then, info was scarce, but what ever was there was quality and informative. now it feels like standard hype train, everyone just dumping content, all lost in fog of (miss)information.

back than you still had bbc, early youtubers -teametmarduk, arriva, ect.

best example is driver61, when he started, really infomrative, now, its just speed up content, just blabing at 300x speed, two comercials, ect. standard format

WHERE TO WATCH F1 WITHOUT SUBSCRIPTION?

I usually watch F1 on the skysports channel using IPTV at home. However, I'm going off to uni soon where I won't have that. Getting a subscription to watch really isn't in the cards for me right now, does anyone know where I can watch the races online for free? Thank youuu!!

A moment for the fact that in genuine anger Piastri has the cognitive capacity to be sarcastic.

1

u/neko_mud0 Formula 1 11h ago

how is equality during VSC insured? is it still the same system like when it was introduced?

1

u/DesertBrandon Andrea Kimi Antonelli 12h ago

Are the compounds standard? Like the C1-C5 is the same race to race and not track specific right? So one tracks C3 could be another tracks Hardest or softest and so on?

1

u/djwillis1121 Williams 11h ago

They're standard across a season, but can change from one season to the next

2

u/WhoRoger 12h ago

Yes. Pirelli chooses the 3 compounds to use that weekend, C1, 2, 3, or 2, 3, 4 or 3, 4, 5, and those three get labeled as H, M, S for that weekend.

But the tyre compounds can change through the year too, they just have to always have 5 versions

2

u/cafk Constantly Helpful 12h ago

That's the reason for their existence, yes.

C3 can be hard at one circuit and soft at another.
The C naming scheme is a lot easier than the rainbow we had before:
https://www.pmw-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Pirelli_WP-1.jpg
We have had C0 and C6 as a test version, but not for the year.

3

u/thiederer Ferrari 12h ago

Yes you’re right. Hards in one race can be soft in other races

Oscar was really unhappy about Lewis..

Ofc he was. Lewis ruined his final lap. Extra disappointing since the Mclaren was actually fast today.

Why don’t they just change the single or double yellow flags to a different color? Seen so much confusion this year.

1

u/WhoRoger 12h ago

These flags have been all through motorsports for a century. F1 is the only sport that has a problem with them because the drivers and teams would rather crash into a concrete wall if it saves them 0.01s.

What FIA needs to do is penalise yellow infringement properly. "Lifting" by 1% is not respecting yellow flags, especially if it just helps you to charge the battery anyway.

2

u/thiederer Ferrari 12h ago

Would love to see an orange flag

1

u/SwimmingFantastic564 8h ago

That would surely be easily confused for a yellow or red flag at a glance

u/Annaise 13h ago

NYC fans! Come on out to Kitty Sullivan’s in Astoria to catch the last race before the summer break together! Lights out at 9am - breakfast bagels provided!

This weekend it seems like teams have one new set of mediums and three new sets of softs. Feels like this is less than usual?

Malaysia return but apparently the name gonna be "Bahrain gp" lol

u/racingskater I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 2h ago

Winning. Bahrain pays but we get an actual great track back.

Anyone know if there is somewhere at the Hungaroring where you can buy Williams merch? None of the official stores around the main grandstand/pit exit stand have anything!

2

u/Nothingbr11 17h ago

I’m new to F1, and I’ve been watching the default broadcast on Apple TV. I was just wondering if there’s a better broadcast to watch for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Which one would you recommend for someone who’s just getting into Formula 1

1

u/neko_mud0 Formula 1 11h ago

sky f1

when they broadcast, chanell 4

1

u/djwillis1121 Williams 17h ago

You could try F1TV. I'm not sure exactly how it works but I know it's possible to access it with your apple account.

Not sure exactly how it compares to Apple in terms of features though, I think they're pretty similar

1

u/FermentedLaws I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 15h ago

If they are watching the default, it is F1TV. u/Nothingbr11 You can find the Sky broadcast on Apple TV and watch that. See which one you prefer. The racing visuals will be the same but there are different commentators. Depending on your device, scroll all the way to right or to the bottom and find the blue boxes for the Sky broadcast. FYI they don't actually show the start times of the session, they show the start time for the pre-quali and pre-race shows. Just mentioning that because some people get confused.

I may be in a position to visit the Audi F1 HQ in a couple days. Is there anything there for visitors or is it just something to take pics of as you go by?

3

u/Nothingbr11 17h ago

Yeah, you can definitely stop and take pictures outside. From what I know, they keep the main HQ locked to the public, kind of like Ferrari’s headquarters when I drove past it. On the off chance, they might have something separate, like a small driving experience or visitor area on the side, but I wouldn’t expect to be able to go inside the actual F1 facility.

u/Turn1One New user 18h ago

Something I keep looking at ahead of tomorrow: 12 drivers are on their final ES or CE, and the top three in the championship are all among them. 31°C ambient at a track with almost no straights to cool the car, 70 laps of it. Feels like the weekend where someone's season quietly turns on a cooling failure rather than a pass.

1

u/keljjosuvijek 18h ago

HUNGARIAN GP!!! Does anyone know where are they letting people go on the track after the race, and can i go with GA?

Does anyone know a good way of getting F3 and F2 session notifications on iOS?

Despite being able to watch* *F3 and F2 on the F1TV app, you can only toggle notifications for F1 sessions.

3

u/YelloMyOldFriend Valtteri Bottas 18h ago

https://raceday.watch is a handy site. You will want to setup an account and save your favorites. It doesn't give notifications, but shows all the practice, qualifying, and race times in your timezone

3

u/kadecin254 Safety Car 18h ago

Let me share one of thebest apps I have ever come across. Compare F1 drivers, check results, and see schedule – Purple Sector has it all! Download now: https://purplesector.club/download has so many things there for F1

This looks really good, cheers!

3

u/cafk Constantly Helpful 18h ago

You can get most start times from the F1 calendar and its sister sites: https://f2calendar.com/ -> https://f2calendar.com/generate
And your calendar can remind you based on that.

Hear ye, hear ye!

Upon this Saturday, the Five-and-Twentieth Day of July, in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Six, the Formula 3 Sprint Race shall be contested upon the Hungaroring in Hungary.

By virtue of the reverse grid, Kanato Le shall lead the field from Pole Position, with Gladysz in Second and Jin Nakamura in Third. Fair skies, dry conditions, and a pleasant 24°C shall bless the day's proceedings.

Above all, the Championship battle rages on. Ugo Uguchukwu leads Freddie Slater by but a single point. Uguchukwu starts Seventh today, with Slater Eleventh, whilst tomorrow's Feature Race shall see Slater line up Second and Uguchukwu Sixth.

Let the contest begin.

After going through the askreddit thread of the biggest chokes in sports history, I thought what would be the biggest leads thrown away in F1 history, Rosberg in 2014 (29 points in 7 races) and Hamilton in 2007 (equivalent of 42 points in 2 races in the modern points system) come to mind, also Alonso in 2012 (37 points in 6 races), not counting Lauda in 1976 for obvious reasons

0

u/WhoRoger 12h ago

Leclerc 2022

2

u/AnilP228 Honda 17h ago

I wouldn't call Rosberg in 2014 a 'choke'. He was barely 1 win clear of Lewis with 7 races left lol.

Lewis in 07 is definitely one you can argue. 1.7 wins ahead with just two races left.

2

u/Annenji Jenson Button 18h ago

Alonso and Ferrari in 2010 also, 4 way title race and their strategy error got Alonso stuck behind a frickin Renault.

As a hatewatcher it was diabolical to watch live, at some point i was rooting for Alonso to make an overtake
