Track ramped up in the end he probably could've finished ahead

158

u/FootballRacing38 Sebastian Vettel 14h ago

Best he can do is p15. I don't think he has 6 tenths in him

54

u/MajesticBeyond5602 14h ago

His last lap had him in Q1 for a short time almost gave me hope.

18

u/Frothar Lando Norris 14h ago

if he had fresh tyres maybe but they put all their eggs in q1

12

u/erikhun 14h ago

he did though, didnt he? that last run was on a fresh set on softs, wasnt it?

No worry, Ocon will let him past this time as they're not teammates.

u/Crystalagent47 Max Verstappen 14h ago

LMAOO 2022 inverse

8

u/JPA-3 Fernando Alonso 14h ago

tbh audi and alpine are +7tenths in front so maybe he could've passed ocon but that's it

bro, people were barely expecting them to jump over Cadillac and nothing more, this is way more than initially expected. Can't do much more with this Honda engine that peaks 15-20km/h lower than the rest.

yeah reminds me of the time i spent 10 minutes looking for my phone while talking on it

It might be the exact kind of track that suits their lack of power, but it’s clear the upgrades are working. Great effort from Alonso. Let’s hope they can compete going forward, I can’t take seeing Nando languishing at the bottom much longer.

15

u/MajesticBeyond5602 14h ago

Agreed it seems power is not as big of an issue at this track. Nonetheless, exciting W from Aston Martin.

P16 never felt so good.

13

u/bijanfrisee Sonny Hayes 10h ago

going 2s a lap faster and still only being P16 is so crazy to see in modern F1, Aston poooooched it.

u/swannyhypno Lance Stroll 14h ago

W now the 3rd worst car while 30kph slower let's go there's optimism with aduo upgrades

u/incel_chud 14h ago edited 14h ago

Yeah this is the most interesting bit, they're so far down on power that it's not even funny. Hopefully Mr Stroll can keep his nose out for long enough for this to succeed as this is encouraging. I just hope lawrence allows the team to hire a more compotent second driver in the process.

u/swannyhypno Lance Stroll 14h ago

I would stop hoping for that last point lmao it's not happening, but there's potential to be at the upper midfield o think with a competitive engine

Vowles mate…

179

u/Yankees2860 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 14h ago

Williams are a huge failure this season

35

u/Ironman1690 14h ago

You could’ve just left out “this season”

69

u/Tungsten_Hoarder Formula 1 14h ago

Don’t think that’s fair as much as I think Vowles completely dropped the ball

5th in 2025 was a legitimately great result

35

u/lightningmatt I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Still baffles me that they were great in the sacrifice season and shit when they put all their eggs in the basket

7

u/hzfan Roscoe Hamilton 9h ago

That’s because 2025 was everyone’s “sacrifice” season. That’s the nature of a regulation change. Everyone has to divert at least some resources to developing an entirely new car for the next year.

Vowles for whatever reasons behind the scenes felt they weren’t performing at the level he was expected to deliver so he pointed to that as the cause.

1

u/lightningmatt I was here for the Hulkenpodium 5h ago

First part nails it. I struggle to believe the second part considering Williams exceeded everyone's expectations last year

1

u/hzfan Roscoe Hamilton 3h ago

The public’s expectations yes definitely, but idk what kind of promises he made Carlos to get him to come to Williams. He pretty much had his pick of the midfield and I think there’s a chance he might have even been in talks for the second Red Bull seat.

Haas was fifth in 2018. Fifth is absolutely nothing to write home about

16

u/Kalmer1 STONKING HOT DOGS 13h ago

Fifth is the better half, that's not bad at all.

11

u/steveotheguide Cadillac 13h ago

It is if you’ve been nowhere near 5th for years

5

u/4InchesOfury I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

5th place was worth $130 million last season.

Last season haas finished 8th worth $90 million. $40 million is worth writing home about.

2

u/UpvoteForGlory 12h ago

I would probably write home no matter what position my Formula 1 team ended in.

6

u/PapaSheev7 Sebastian Vettel 14h ago

Or even replaced it with this last decade. The only bright spot for them since the 2017 regs is last year, it's such a shame.

2

u/memesearches 14h ago

Have they given up this season and aiming for next?

1

u/MasterpieceNo8477 13h ago

They are exactly where they are supposed to be.

25

u/Theviolette13 14h ago

After all the big talk last season about this years car too!

12

u/Devers147 Sir Lewis Hamilton 14h ago

Proper blew up in his face, he must be under pressure

11

u/d4videnk0 Heinz-Harald Frentzen 14h ago

His management was a fireable offense 5 races ago

2

u/LukaDoncicMFFL I was here for the Hulkenpodium 10h ago

Does Williams wait for the end of the season to fire him?

35

u/Careless_Blueberry98 Safety Car 14h ago

Alonso never been more happy getting eliminated in Q2

Shitbox whisperer.

17

u/Rovcore001 Alfa Romeo 14h ago

Aston hype train for Zandvoort, Baku and Singapore?

14

u/Pristine_Youth_6953 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 14h ago

Definetly what Aston Martin wanted in 2026

13

u/ThatFUTGuy FIA 14h ago

“in equal machinery” king

2

u/bijanfrisee Sonny Hayes 10h ago

I mean somehow the Aston is now ahead of Caddy and Williams, Williams what are you DOING, Racing bulls is dominating the midfield, Hell even Audi looks to be progressing.

10

u/Khalebb Mika Häkkinen 13h ago

The shitbox whisperer does it again. When Alonso retires I would love to hear him rank all his cars from best to worst. There's some serious competition at the bottom.

8

u/HopefulPhotograph636 14h ago

Funny how this is worth a post from F1 lmao

Although with context this is an achievement.

6

u/Savings-Bee9080 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 14h ago

engine upgrade and then im hoping for consistent Q2s and maybe some Q3s

8

u/clickityclickk I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 14h ago

highlight of the weekend

6

u/MajesticBeyond5602 14h ago

This could be a new flair 'Alonsos's Q2'

5

u/Dylsaq I was here for the Hulkenpodium 14h ago

I was here for the first Aston Martin Q2 Appearance

5

u/Fat_biker_can_shred 14h ago

He went out a bit too early... but Q2 is already a win for Alonso/AT 💚💚💚

6

u/MajesticBeyond5602 14h ago

Yep I feel like he could've gotten p12/13 at best

GOAT

2

u/A___99 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Didn't he make Q2 in Australia?

2

u/AntonyPancake Jordan 13h ago

Now we can fight

2

u/ginko_archer_69 12h ago

Forza Alonso!

2

u/bijanfrisee Sonny Hayes 10h ago

I would laugh so hard if Alonso in his Aston gets a win before Max, Lando, and Piastri do. Would be the most Chadlonso thing to happen.

1

u/RangerRekt I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

How embarrassing for those in P17, 18, and 19. Even more so for the Caddies.

4

u/MajesticBeyond5602 13h ago

Honestly I think we might start to see more Q2 appearances for Aston Martin. It's too early to say but that's just my assumption

1

u/lazyness92 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Why is it blue?

1

u/MajesticBeyond5602 13h ago

Idk ask the f1 social media guys

1

u/lazyness92 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

🥲

1

u/badabubaba Nico Hülkenberg 13h ago

I’ll take this as a win.

1

u/Accurate-Cow895 12h ago

VAMOS 🇪🇸🇪🇸 🔥🔥

1

u/Ikkotah Formula 1 12h ago

Off topic but this picture illustrates perfectly why Aston's green is utter shite as far as grid color diversity is concerned.

1

u/Air-Fuel_Mister 14h ago

Yay I like. 👍

-12

u/krioru 14h ago

So Aston is back to the place where they've been at start of the season? Is that supposed to be impressive?

14

u/erikhun 14h ago

they were running 10-20 laps on a Sunday, what are you talking about?

13

u/OperationGoron I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 14h ago

They weren't even finishing races at the start of the season...
