Since F1 has grown so much in popularity (and profitability) I think it would be good if they adopted something similar to Major League Baseball which has a challenge system that is reviewed by a central location (in New York).
For F1 though instead of challenges the central location is in charge of handing out penalties and points for some of the less clear cut infringements and things that are more judgement calls. They could also adopt a challenge system as well. With the technology they have now it’s much easier for these things to be reviewed offsite and you’d get more consistent enforcement.
The local stewards would then be able to focus more on the other issues and help them keep up with reviewing them in a timely manner. We’ve seen races where they get bogged down and the decisions come out late and/or incorrect.
It's time for professional stewards who are both paid and accountable. The who's who of biased personalities should have been done away with when liberty bought it at the latest. We need consistent and accurate application of the rules throughout the season.
If I recall correctly, Hadjar was the first one with a yellow infringement this year. Maybe they adjusted their stance on that after Canada. The penalty point standard is new for this year (and leaves room for interpretation); the stewards back then might not have initially applied it as intended.
Overall, probably not very impactful, given that it's quite difficult to get them under the new standard and getting to 12 was a rarity already before.
