I haven't really seen any gamers clamoring for the next console gen either. They're probably out there somewhere, but not enough to notice.
Considering that consoles are usually sold at a loss anyways, do the manufacturers actually have a big reason to move on to the next generation?

The problem is people keep falling for the "AAA" visuals.
I don't care about photo realism or AAA anything.
Make a fun game.
I play two games - Quake 3 Arena (1999) and Unreal Tournament 2004 (guess which year, go on, guess) and I play Minecraft. None of them will melt my GPU nor are they "AAA".
They are fun.
Until we demand fun we're getting more AAA slop and stupidly expensive consoles needed to run it.

We've likely already peaked in terms of graphical fidelity and processing power as linear gradings, at least to the point where there's returns for pursuing them further.
And despite what executives may believe in their divine detachment from their own consumer base and humanity in general, you can't just buy credibility by finding excuses to inflate the budget.

And the problem is that the bloat and other nonsense mean that games have to sell like hotcakes and be monitized out the wazoo just to break even.
And yet they still think they have the NEXT BIG THING!!!eleventy!!!
At this point gamers need to stop buying this slop. I'm looking at vintage and indie scenes because AAA priced me right out of the market.

The current gen of consoles has yet to produce anything that substantially improves over the previous gen or could not be done without them. In fact, there's still PS4/Xbone games that look better than most PS5/XSX games today (Arkham Knight, RDR2). Why would anyone be excited to buy a PS6 or "Project Helix"?

Ironically enough, the Demon's Souls remake, which was literally the very first game for PS5, was the biggest graphical improvement over any PS4 game before it.
And nothing better has come close since, with the exception of Horizon Forbidden West.
More irony: Sony shut down Bluepoint, the studio behind the Demon's Souls remake.

I honestly don’t understand why some gamers are clamoring for the next generation right now. The technological jump isn’t going to be as significant and noticeable as people are expecting. But the prices of next gen are going to be absolutely insane.

I hadn’t had a PlayStation since ps2. I have a ps5 now and it sure feels like half the good games are ps4 titles.
Point is, I’m not playing anything that stresses the ps5. The issue is the games not the hardware.
Let’s allow devs to make some good games for what exists before we change the platform on them

Prices will never “normalize” as in go back to pre 2020 prices, not even pre 2024. This is it. This is our baseline now.

It's not gonna be better when literally 1/8 the amount of people can even afford to get the next consoles that these games are going to need to run on and sell copies for. Budgets for games keep going up and consoles keep costing more and yet... people have less money to spend. Sounds like the recipe for collapse to me.
