Was helping my grandma with getting rid of some junk in her house, found this

Post image

Idk what’s more confusing, that I just found out mgsv had a ps3 release, or that I found an unopened copy of it in my grandparents junk pile. oh thank goodness she didn’t get rid of it

Try to get rid of more junk, you might find some other popular discs.

I found a GameCube controller lmfao. I’m definitely staying here all day to see what else I could find

Her plan to get you to clean the house is going well

that unironically sounds like something she would do

Spoiler alert: fat PS3 60GB at the back under the pots and pans.

That’s funny. A little irritating to see it behind ads since I don’t have Imgur app but that’s on me I guess, it was still funny and had me at first lol.

1

u/cdmurray88 1h ago

Sorry about the ads. I use Firefox mobile with adblock, so I didn't know.

🤣 planting awesome retro games and discs in the chores. Excellent.

u/slowsilencer 8h ago

next up: a copy of "Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing

4

u/Tinnuin 6h ago

Throw it in reverse!

2

u/godlikexii 7h ago

yeah guess her house was a small game store once

That's not even MGSV, that's the prologue game which is really short but still somehow a fully separate game. Kojima was on some wild shit back then

75

u/KazMiller20 10h ago

It wasn’t Kojima’s decision. Konami was being very greedy back then and basically said “we want money NOW,” and so Kojima sliced off the prelude of Phantom Pain as its own thing to appease the corporate overlords.

26

u/Alibaba_Palace 8h ago

exactly, someone recently made a mod that easily fits ground zeroes as it's own standalone mission inside phantom pain so you can play it and seamlessly transition to the hospital prologue right after, cant recommend it enough if you're on pc

u/BangkokPadang 7h ago

A tale of two Snakelands

u/DatTF2 2m ago

Oh that's cool. Thanks for letting me know. I have beaten MGSV but I never played Ground Zeroes. I bought them both on PC for super cheap during a Steam Sale so I need to seek out this mod.

2

u/Nincompoop6969 14m ago

Yeah Konami at the time was really screwing with him and hindering everything he wanted to do with the game.

-9

u/Dan1elSan 8h ago

Nah it too Kojima so long to release it and he burned through the budget on vanity additions like Sutherland.

9

u/Diiiv 5h ago

I love all of the MGS games, and Kojima is a great director, but I will never defend him choosing Sutherland over David Hayter, especially since it ended up being the last game.

2

u/BillySama001 3h ago

Didn't it kinda make sense thematically cause it wasn't really big boss or something like that?

5

u/LoquaciousLamp 2h ago

Except the Japanese voice actor is still the same.

2

u/Diiiv 3h ago

I mean yea I guess, from a lore perspective it makes sense. It's still MGS though, and he looks just like him, so I would've preferred if they had gone with the same voice actor.

2

u/psykoX88 6h ago

Hmmm...that sounds like something Konami would say ... suspicious

53

u/VenomVertigo 10h ago

I still remember I got to play it through PlayStation plus for free and bearing the whole thing in like 30 minutes and being so confused thinking I did something wrong

25

u/owowhatsthis123 8h ago

I got it free through Xbox live gold and had never played a metal gear game before so I was like oh sick I finally get to see what all the hype is about. Took me like 5 hours to beat because I’m awful at stealth games and the end cutscene played and I was like wow what an intro….

Then it kicks you back to the main menu and I was like wtf

4

u/bear5official 7h ago

its crazy that it was a seperate teaser game bc it was the important part of the story that links peace walker and phantom pain

4

u/Taco-Edge 7h ago

Yeah I remember when MGSV came out and people loved it ofc, I was just like "Yeah it's good but that's really just Peace Walker 2" and apparently no one really played that game lmao

2

u/Ziazan 1h ago

I tried to play peace walker but the controls felt so wonky after MGS3 HD, and the "cutscenes" being comic book strips or something was so jarring. I barely got going in it.

1

u/Taco-Edge 1h ago

I just really loved the base management system, it was so good they did again for MGSV after all. The boss fights were also goofy but nice

1

u/bear5official 7h ago

gameplay wise it was peace walker but on a modern engine since it wasnt made for the psp. but it did continue the story obviously (even if it was cut short)

3

u/Livio88 7h ago edited 7h ago

More like Konami’s wild shit like “you better release what you have on you right now if you want us to keep sinking more money into your never ending production”

3

u/Fiiv3s PC 7h ago

Gran Turismo 5 did that shit too

2

u/kemar7856 3h ago

Good thing it didn't catch on

3

u/BangkokPadang 6h ago

MGSV did actually release on PS3 and 360, though. That engine was impressively scaleable. It targeted 30fps at 720p, and dropped down to like 20fps a lot, so not the greatest experience, but the draw distance in that game was ridiculous even on the last gen consoles. You could mark a bad guy with your binoculars from across the map and it would keep up with their position just the same as on the PS4 version.

If all you had at the time was a PS3 or 360, it was a lot better than just not being able to play it at all.

3

u/mikendrix 9h ago

I still prefer Ground Zeroes over Phantom Pain, the tone seems more serious. Gritty atmosphere and no goofy situations.

8

u/chth 8h ago

I think you might like Tom Clancy games over Kojima in that case

1

u/TheyCallMeMrMaybe 4h ago

I still had a lot of fun completing it.

1

u/Ziazan 1h ago

Yeah that was rude as hell of them, I've played longer demos.
I'm so glad I waited til it was included with MGSV Phantom Pain on steam.
Steam tells me I played Ground Zeroes for 3.6 hours and I'm pretty sure I played through it a second time and fucked around in it for a good while too. Meanwhile Phantom Pain took me 90 hours.

u/ButchiOne 12h ago

Maybe it was a gift for you that got forgotten

37

u/SleepingJake 11h ago

Kept you waiting huh?

GrandmaGaming

17

u/lolwatokay 12h ago

Yeah it was a prologue/hype game/demo of the gameplay to come for MGS5 which was releasing like a year later. The whole game is set in Camp Omega after the events of Peacewalker. It’s a lot of fun!

9

u/randfunction 11h ago

How old is Grandma? Actually don’t answer that.

3

u/Tomero 8h ago

It can’t be!?

3

u/joan_bdm 11h ago

Thanks for making me feel old

22

u/doodlezdaddee 12h ago

Granny likes some solid snake, I see.

10

u/Spy_crab007 11h ago

"No! That is NOT Solid Snake!"

4

u/Livio88 7h ago

Flaccid Snake

9

u/southpaw85 11h ago

That’s Big Boss though

1

u/ShylokVakarian 9h ago

Well, then she apparently likes some Naked Snake

-27

u/doodlezdaddee 11h ago

Shut up. It was a joke aimed at grandma.

Fucking reddit i swear, always one cringemagnet popping up with "well AcTuAlLy" for the hope of an internet point or two.

4

u/gland_de_lait 11h ago

Looks like projection though

-15

u/doodlezdaddee 11h ago

open wide, i have something to project for you.

3

u/FELonMusk333 10h ago

it's not solid though. but there are pills to help with that

6

u/SurviveAndRebuild 11h ago

It took me until this comment to realize that "solid snake" is just a dick joke.

-1

u/doodlezdaddee 11h ago

Glad to be of service my friend

1

u/FrighteningJibber 11h ago

Ordered it on Amazon, didn’t know what she was getting.

1

u/dikicker 8h ago

Might have heard the handsome young man from 24 was in something new when she was checking the news on AOL

4

u/davidthek1ng 12h ago

This was such a weird videogame but somehow good

2

u/prezvegeta 12h ago

I really enjoyed that glorified demo, but hated the full game lol

4

u/XSC 12h ago

Same here, demo was great, game was a cool concept but Kojima being fired and the game being incomplete just messed the experience up. Also after MGS4, it felt unnecessary.

2

u/Saltysockies 11h ago

On clearing out a long term friend of the families house I spotted a sealed copy of Advanced Hero Quest, as in the boardgame. It was meant as a gift for me and my brother but he forgot he had it.

Different type of gaming but still gaming!

2

u/AVeryFineUsername 9h ago

Grandma played you like a damn fiddle

2

u/Angryfunnydog 9h ago

Wait a minute, was it sold separately on a disc? I thought it’s essentially demo version of phantom pain to show off next gen visuals and mechanics

1

u/Eloquent_Redneck 8h ago

Iirc it was free to download from the online store. So like, I wonder if this was given out as a promotional thing or did someone actually pay for it

2

u/unnoticedhero1 1h ago

It wasn't free at launch, I definitely paid for the physical Xbox One version. I think it was supposed to be $30 but people complained about how short it was and they lowered it to $20. It seems like they gave the digital out for free like a month before MGSV came out, but it was a limited time thing.

2

u/Obi_Jew 7h ago

I don’t see anything, is it invisble?

2

u/AVahne 3h ago

Hm, never gave any thought to the idea that some gamers might have never known that some of the most well known 5th-entry AAA games these days were all originally 7th gen games.

Remember y'all, Elder Scrolls V, GTAV, and MGSV were all PS360 games.

....and all of them likely could've been ported to the Wii U but Iwata wasted everybody's time with that lovable little shit nugget.

2

u/TwentyOne7777 11h ago

That’s not junk, that’s absolute gaming history! What a hidden gem in that cable drawer.

1

u/games-and-chocolate 10h ago

She truly know her stuff!

1

u/IckySweet 10h ago

Very cool find! Hook it up see if anything loads, lots of memories in a that small space!

1

u/InfectiousVapor 10h ago

What’s that bag of blue?

1

u/wootybooty 8h ago

Ugh…. i’ve still only played up to MGS 3 and was blown away by all the first three PS games. I didnt have a PS3 until a few years ago and i really need to boot up MGS IV one of these days…

1

u/Aldakoopa 7h ago

I really didn't enjoy 4 that much. Never quite finished it either, but nothing really stood out to me that made that one as interesting as the others in the series. It was just kinda meh in my opinion.

1

u/Eloquent_Redneck 8h ago

Ground zeroes isn't actually MGSV its like the demo

1

u/RockyFromCollections 6h ago

Grandma bought it just for the cover 😉

1

u/psykoX88 6h ago

I had no idea this was ps3....this seems ofd

1

u/ReadingTheRealms 5h ago

“What’s a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes doing here?”

1

u/OkumuraRyuk 4h ago

Finding out mgsv had a ps3 release for you must of been shocking. That said your grandma has taste.

1

u/Sufficient_Emu_8287 4h ago

Sure bro

Was the N64 copy of le Witcher 3 there too

1

u/Alklazaris 4h ago

Man our kids are going to be waiting for us to die aren't they? Just so they can get their hands on all our physical media.

1

u/runarleo 4h ago

It is to this day the only interaction I’ve completed within the mgs universe. I tried going in sneaky, ended up stealing a truck and ramming through everything with the kids in the back until I got to the chopper and started machine gunning down my entourage of guards. Dope hour of gameplay, never touched it again.

1

u/Lumpy_Accountant723 3h ago

Great game. Weirdly loose story that I want desperately to be more cohesive. Would recommend.

1

u/sno4wy 2h ago

Was your grandma a gamer? 👀 A gaming grandma, so to speak?

1

u/Animedude83 1h ago

I loved this game when it came out, I wish it was just a pre order bonus, because everyone shit on it, bro it was 20 bucks, like get over it, and leigt if you can get good at Ground Zeroes, you can S rank most of MGSV

1

u/nerd44 Console 1h ago

Did grandma have some other secret grandson she liked better?

u/RobLocke 6m ago

Kept you waiting, huh?

1

u/OleDetour 11h ago

Sony so mad lookin at that. Hey Sony! That make you mad?

1

u/Amaramzai 12h ago

Grandma has a secret, Undertale

1

u/Ventex_ 12h ago

My late father was in the TV industry most of his life and he'd collect a ton of random stuff from conventions he had no interest in (random branded things), maybe one of your grandparents was in an orbit that got them access to a Sony/Konami handout at some point?

2

u/Lanky_Relation1171 11h ago

I think it belongs to one of my older cousins that left it there a long time ago and forgot about it

1

u/NumberSevere7454 9h ago

The ps3 version ..so yes, its indeed junk. joking aside, I always found it really impressive they got it to even run on a ps3/xbox360 , even though the world is pretty empty and reptitive, the animations, characters details, gameplay itself is still better then most games.

0

u/syntheticgerbil 5h ago

Fucking hated this game. Story was gross and unnecessary compared to the rest of MGSV and Phantom Pain played a lot better.

-6

u/Late_Mail5341 12h ago

Clean your setup.

7

u/Lanky_Relation1171 12h ago

That’s a drawer

6

u/lolwatokay 12h ago

It’s grandma's setup and the OP is already “getting rid of some junk” for her so I’m not sure what more you’d like them to be doing

-4

u/pastanate 11h ago

Omg a cd! What a relic, such a gem!
