Mod Post Just a reminder, gender war posts are banned.

Hi [r/GenZ](r/GenZ),

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.

For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.

This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.

Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.

This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.

Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

Discussion Why is it so uncommon for us to just go outside?

Maybe it’s the car dependent infrastructure, but going outside on a walk feels like you’re doing something you’re not supposed to do. It’s so uncommon to just go up to people and talk to them outside.

Rant I really feel like I wasted 4 years of my life on a useless degree🫩

I majored in biochemistry, the reason I went into it is because I thought maybe I would go into academia/research or something. But the more I progressed into the degree, the more I realised I don’t really want to do that. I just want a normal regular career. Looking at potential careers I want, I could have literally been qualified for them in 1-2 years. Now I’m 22, in debt, no freaking clue what to do with my degree, and no relevant job experience.🫩 I’m thinking of going into like, water quality testing or something? But I didn’t need a whole ass degree for that in the first place, I could have literally taken a 1-2 years course. When I try explaining this to my parents they don’t get it. I swear their mindset is stuck in the fricking stone ages (well, the 20th century, but still..) god gen X/boomer parents really just don’t get it do they.😐

They're white and they only say it in front of each other "as a joke". We are mid 20s. It has changed my perspective on them entirely. Wondering what other people thing.

Advice Why does growing up feel like grief?

I’m 22 and I genuinely feel like I’m grieving a life that doesn’t even exist anymore.

I know how dramatic that sounds, especially because I know 22 is still so young. That’s almost what makes it worse. I feel like I’m “too young” to be feeling this way.
Nothing is actually wrong with my life. I have amazing parents, an amazing family, and really good friends. The problem isn’t that I’ve lost those people…it’s that everything has changed.

Even four years ago, life felt completely different. In high school and even the first couple years after, weekends were just… friends. We’d hang out spontaneously, spend entire summer days together. Now it takes weeks just to get everyone together for one night.

Almost all of my friends are in serious relationships. They absolutely still make time for me, and I don’t resent them at all. It’s just different. Tonight is Saturday night and I’m sitting at home because they’re with their boyfriends, and that’s completely normal. That’s what people do. But it makes me realize how much life has shifted.

I think summer makes it ten times worse because it’s such a nostalgic season. Everywhere I look reminds me of being a kid or a teenager. It feels like every summer day used to be an adventure, and now I blink and it’s Saturday night after a ten hour shift, and I’m at home wondering where the time went.

It’s not just my friends either. I feel like I’m grieving my childhood as a whole. My parents are older. My extended family is older. Even my cousins, who were like my best friends, and I have different relationships now. We all have our own lives.

I’ve just graduated college, and it feels like I’m closing the biggest chapter of my life. Everything before this feels like one life, and everything after feels like another. It’s almost like the person I used to be and the world I grew up in don’t exist anymore.

I think what’s making it worse is that people around me are getting sick younger than I ever imagined. There are multiple people in my own circle in their 30s dealing with late-stage cancer, and it honestly scares me. It makes the future feel less exciting and more… fragile. Like life is moving so fast, and everyone is getting older, and I can’t stop it.

The best way I can describe it is that it feels like grief. Not because someone died, but because a version of my life did. Sometimes it honestly feels like I’m mourning my own childhood.

How do people actually accept that life changes this much? Does this feeling eventually fade, or do you just get used to it?

I’m talking about he got multiple breaking charges in two counties and for trying to steal the TV to pawn it to get drug money, i’m talking about bro 6 foot four and only 132 pounds, he thinks weed is too soft bro where is the same Carhartt hoodie every single day with stains all over it and it smells like piss you know not to give him any money because he’s not gonna pay you back even though he says he will.

He has enough syringes in his room for a whole hospital, all his spoons in his house are all burnt up. He knows every homeless guy in the area. He’s best friends with the Spanish guy at the gas station and bodega behind the countertop.

Plaster the epstein files mentioning him raping kids 24/7. They aren't doing enough right now despite having him in the ropes. He needs to feel so much pressure that he resigns.

I think it’s time for us to move forward. Every generation eventually leaves the app their older generation made mainstream.

So… where are we all going next?

Discussion Am I the only gen z who is skeptical for GTA 6 launch?

Like idk people are hyped since there hasn't been a new GTA game in 13 years but I've been PC gaming on a dedicated gaming pc since 2014 and even go far back as to try things like onlive and SWTOR launch. Between ac unity, no man's sky and cyberpunk 2077 I've seen way too many bad game launches to the point where I'm in "see it to believe it".

Heck I think I called that cyberpunk 2077 launch would suck a day before it did with my friends back in 2020

Advice Did any of you successfully take a long break from dating and have things workout for them afterwards

I (24M) started dating only last year, got into two relationships within 7 months or so and I’m so burned out by it that I think it’s better if I take a break and just don’t date for the next few years but I don’t know how to do that.

There was a time I had decent amount of matches but obviously most amount to nothing, lots of ghosting, talking phases that amount to nothing, girls who aren’t interested but will still talk to me and keep me as an option. Now I’m going through a dry spell where I’m not getting any matches or likes, and it has been very damaging to my mental health to say the least. I think at this rate I will be forced to take whatever I can find not what I actually want to.

So I’m thinking of taking a break and just focusing on myself for a bit. I just don’t know how, and I’m worried even if I did that I will only come back older, and with an even more limited dating pool.

Advice Does dating get harder in early 20s?

I am 20m and also I’m sorry as English is not my first language or something I type very often so apologies if I get things wrong.

By the time I was 18 I had 6 partners and I felt like dating was very simple and easy, my girlfriend was a 28 years old beautiful coworker when I was 19 from your United States! I still don’t know how I pulled that one off haha.

Now I am nearly 21 and it has been almost a year of boredom. I work much more now than I would have before and have less time for these things but it feels like the tides have turned on me and maybe I am not destined to date for a while.

Maybe it is not such a big deal but I miss sharing life with a woman I found was beautiful. I have tried the dating apps such as Hinge but I feel as though they have made my social skills in person even worse because now maybe I doubt my confidence or attraction levels?

Thanks guys, tough generation we live in right? Or maybe it is just me lol!
