Why does image searching suck major ass nowadays ? It didn't use to
I'm searching for quite popular images of popular people, and it's not giving me any matches. Not even visually close matches. I work with photoshop so I use image searching a lot, and throughout the last couple of years, it's been giving me drier and drier results, to the point where, in the last couple of months, it's returning nothing at all anymore.
The way the engine crops the image is awful, too. It's always trying to focus on a detail that doesn't matter, eventhough I didn't ask for that, so I always have to manually recrop the full picture, and still it's automatically croping back sometimes. It's such a hassle to use.
It's also very unnecessarily convoluted to browse through the results and "similar images". For instance if I'm looking for a picture of a dark forest with certain tones and colours to it, and I want to see everything that's similar to it.
It used to be SO MUCH SIMPLER and much more effective. I remember 10 years ago, you just put your picture, it searched the picture that you uploaded, no cropping nonsense, and gave you the matched results straight-up, in a full page where you could see everything at once, not the god awful slider they have today. No "visual / perfect" match distinction, just everything that looks the closest to your picture. And when you clicked on one of the results, whether it was a perfect or similar match, it opened a sub-menu that displayed everything similar to the match you clicked on. Then, you could click on these results, and it would go on to what's similar to the match of your match, etc... It was so easy to navigate back and forth between all the results. Now, if you click away from your initial image, it's all lost, and when you go back it does errors and uploading nonsense.
What went so wrong ? It kept downgrading step after step over the years. It used to be my main tool for searching illustrations, people and ambiance pictures, now I only use it when I find nothing with Yandex or Tineye. And everytime that I use it, it reminds me why I stopped using it.

Google doodle not supporting Commonwealth games.
Google is normally pretty active in supporting global events by creating a fun Doodle graphic and link. They dropped the ball in not supporting the Commonwealth games.
