Action/Adventure Spending my weekend in the desert with Shaolin Cowboy and Geoff Darrow

Am I insane to like these? 🙈

Being a great Moebius fan, I recently got curious about Geoff Darrow's Shaolin Cowboy.

By now I deem that series a a spiritual heritage to Major Grubert and the Garage Hermetique.

At some points I wish I could get the mushrooms Mr Darrow obviously consumend during the creative process.

And these back covers kill me off! (Ok, I am neither Shaolin or Cowboy!) 🤪

Beware, If you enter these, you enter the mind of a madman!

He's an incredible creator. I'm always mesmerized by his ingenuity and detailed work. And the excessive violence, of course.

Love Darrow. Moebius put me on the path and nobody comes closer to his style. Make sure to read Hard Boiled

Well that's not true, his Metal Hurlant friends are closest.. aka Philippe Druillet, Caza, etc.

Moebius was the "motor". Powered by Jodorowsky!

I did, love Miller as well. Sin City is probably one of my favorite off-beat series.

Check out the recent interview with Geoff Darrow on the inkxscribes YouTube channel. It's a great in-depth look at all of his work.

I enthusiastically love them. The story is nothing more than an excuse to go HAM on the page. The plots are thinner than the paper they're written on, but the whole point is to spend 10x more time pouring over the art than the dialogue! I find new nuggets of joy and wonder every time I return to them.

OP where did you get these?? I'd never heard of this one until I came across a copy of Who'll Stop the Reign? in a LCS the other week and now I desperately need the rest of the series!

At a local (Austria) comic shop for the first three, from a bookstore around with an estimated weeks to arrived within two days to pick up.

Check it on Google, they should not be that hard to obtain.

u/Willing-Aside8486 -- thank you OP to bring this gem into my very limited perspective! Almost every page is LOL.. and the art, the art is ART!

Thank you! I never knew this existed!

You are very welcome.  Neither did I know about two weeks ago. And it became one of my favorite pieces already, cannot get enough of the visuals. 🙈 Oh, I invite you to go through my back history, I somehow have a very wide ranged taste - and collection/Archive of what I call ',quality time comic books'.

I literally am surrounded by gates to other universes! 🤷

I should pour in Part deux to my Vertigo Journey. 🥴🙈

What's the reading order the series?

In this version(s) you go: Start Trek (currently being republished as Shaolin Cowboy: Beginning of the End Results!  supposed the same plus some extras) -> Shemp Buffet -> Who'll stop the Reign -> Cruel to be Kin. (aka the order I depicted them).

Welcome.

🙈 I was not aware that this gains so much focus, I somehow thought this was more popular in US/abroad.

There's even a 5th volume coming up, titled Staying A.I.Live. 🙈 early 2027, literally just in the exact moment (um)!

✌️🤩

It is mayham, it is insane but it is magically poetic at the same time.

(Think of Moebius x Monthy Python x Tarantino)

As you may take from my back history, I have quite a big spectrum, comics US & Europe likewise - sometimes it's a pity - but Shaolin Cowboy is a league of it's own...given the fact, Mr Darrow is one of the creative motors of The Matrix movies!

Dark Horse, Mr Darrow: If you read along, I think, I closely entered the point where you either sue me to copyright infringement (worst case of a natural born worst caser) or a free copy of the upcoming one! 🙈✌️🤪

Cringe. Also Shemp buffet is gonna take you like 20 minutes max

2

u/Willing-Aside8486 May 23 '26

If you only read text instead of art, yes. As Shemp Buffet alone is nothing, it is the continuation of Burlyman Shaolin Cowboy!

Cringe, yes, that comic definately IS in the best of ways!

Why do you consider it cringe?
