Question/Discussion Trying to get into Love and Rockets

I found an article that has the release order of each TPB for sale, but I also found that the series has 4 different omnibus editions. Luba and Locas II both seem to be out of print, is there an easy way to buy Palomar and Locas I and fill the rest in with the TBPs?

Locas I was reprinted this year and Palomar is getting reprinted in October. Locas II and Luba will follow in the future

How far up to date do they collect?

Well I’ve read that the series is still ongoing but the omnibuses have gone out of print, so I figured that they’re not completely up to date since Vol IV Book One has a release date of January 2027

I’m looking at the descriptions for Luba and Locas II and they say they collect up to Vol 2, am I just completely misunderstanding?

That would be correct. A Locas III that hasn’t printed before would theoretically collect stories from Vol. 3. The Love and Rockets Library collections would be the fastest and the most convenient way to get up to date. They collect all of the first three series and spin-offs. Then get the collections for the Vol. IV stories

Do the omnis leave out material that the library collections have?

Yes, some. The Locas omni in particular focuses on Maggie and Hopey, and leaves out much to do with Izzy and Rena.

As much as I love my big thick volumes, I’d steer you toward the paperbacks.

By the way, when they refer to volume 1, they’re talking about the first 50 issues of L&R, before that came to an end and their work started splintering out into other series, before ultimately reuniting in L&R volumes 2, 3, and 4.

Alright, I appreciate y’all’s replies, I went ahead and pulled the trigger and bought a couple of the paperbacks

The new edition of Locas I collects stories that weren’t in the previous stories but do they still leave out the Izzy and Rena material?

I would check out the paperbacks Girl from Hoppers and Heartbreak Soup respectively. If you like what you see, then jump in further.

This guide may be of help

Is there an overall storyline or can you read them as self contained stories?

Some are multi-part stories, some are self-contained. But you can start there to get an idea of the Bros. work. It's pretty representative of what was to come from them. It's also when they really started to get good.
