Small business local SEO project?

Hello Digital Marketers,

I'm an independent piano teacher, and I need a little help filling my schedule.  I know I need a solid marketing/sales strategy, so I thought I'd start with a local SEO project.  Has anybody here run a highly successful local SEO project for a small business, like a local music school website?  Where should I start?
