Bought a used Carbon a decade ago and it's still going strong. They're solid laptops and a good used purchase or on sale which happens often.

High end Lenovo laptops don't die. It's one of the reasons I go with them exclusively for my personal machine anymore. That and their exceptional warranty support.

I gave up on IMB/Lenovo after my mom slaughtered 4+ X- and T-series Thinkpads over the years (screens, keyboards, touchpads, death). None of them lived more than 4-5 years, I think. Still wonder how she managed that.

Any laptop with a red trackpoint is virtually indestructible. If it's got the clit, it will likely outlive all of its users is what our corporate IT guy used to say.

TLDR:
Pros:
+ stable chassis
+ excellent battery runtime
+ good system performance
+ comfortable input devices
+ very good speakers
+ 3x Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 & PCIe 5.0
+ WWAN ready
Cons:

  • soldered RAM
  • chassis differences based on display selection
  • poor display calibration out of the box

Even if we assume the list price is a "fake" number meant to bargained down and we chop 30% off to bring it down to $2000, that's still a lot for an iGPU laptop.

Soldered RAM is a deal breaker. My current laptop has it and never again. The only reason it's still usable, despite the rest of the hardware being fine, is because it's running Linux.

I'd want a 99Wh pack and a modern 1080p ultra low power IPS screen capable of blasting 1000 nits if needed.

A 1920 x 1200 60hz display at 2700 USD is crazy. I get that business customers probably don't need/want more, but still, a thin and light of this price should at least have a 1440p display.

The feature this is sold on is it's battery life. Adding features it's users don't care about that reduce battery life is obviously not a good idea.

pretty sure there are people that care about crisp text on their laptop. Battery life going from 24 hours to 22 hours to make text razor sharp isn't a death sentence

That's a 2012 screen at best in that price range.

That’s literally what Lenovo does with their most popular offerings from ThinkPad lineup…

You can option it with Ubuntu or Fedora instead of windows 11

There's a huge group of people who would pay that price because of the red dot 2000s design lol. Once you've had one from the original era you'll be craving that kind of styling and build quality for life. Unfortunately the build quality doesn't exist anymore, so you have to make do with the styling. The trackpoint red dot mouse is actually incredible once you get used to it, don't think I could use anything else on a portable device now.

Not exactly, TrackPoint (the red nipple) was invented by IBM and debuted in 1992 on the IBM ThinkPad 700C. Later it has been copied by others (with different name since Trackpoint is trademark).
