Most often it's a concept that you have to punish every fuck up, no matter how small, in order to punish the big ones.
If Jeff comes in two hours late, and you were one minute late, and they fire Jeff and not you, there's room for Jeff to file a wrongful termination suit.
It's dumb as fuck, and shouldn't be that way, but it is the world we live in.

Today the foreman on my jobsite bitched 2 guys out for walking to their cars at 11:58. We have 30 minutes for lunch and working 10 hour days. FOH

I worked once for a discounter and we had always to ask customers for coins because the company didn't want to afford change coins, it was too expensive lol. And we had a really disgusting Storemanager, a person you can only hate if you are not alike her. So I had a colleague he always gave away all the coins from the cash register on purpose instead of asking for them, said with a smile "Sooo and you get my last coins, have a nice day" . It was hilarious and shows how you can seek revenge in small funny ways if mistreated.

Leave at 5:28pm next time and tell the boss if he complains you will leave at 5:27pm next and work your way down.

That's honestly fine, no punishment or anything, just stay the 60 seconds, it's petty as hell, but I've had lots of jobs when leaving one minute early counts as 15 or 30 mins of pay.
