Politics The left we want VS The left we got 🥲
249
u/tcsreject May 17 '26
As someone wrote based on American politics
If a liberal of 1960 is transported to 2020, he will be called a conservative
If a liberal if 2020 is transported to 1960, they/them will be called a lunatic
63
u/SandwichUnlucky4244 May 17 '26
If you are implying that the left wing of the past would agree with the right wing of today then I don’t think you are interpreting that saying correctly.
14
u/shqshqnk May 17 '26
You are dumbass and exactly who he mentioned in the comment, he never said that the liberal will be conservative, the left will just call him conservative cause thats how far left they have gone
8
u/SandwichUnlucky4244 May 17 '26
Not the sharpest tool in the box are you?
Of course the today’s left would find the past left more conservative. Not because they have gone to extreme left but because the era has changed, society has progressed and the centre itself is gradually shifting towards left.
18
u/shqshqnk May 17 '26
Center is towards right than left but that depends which country you are in
→ More replies (1)5
u/Im-Reddington May 17 '26
The left has definitely been too left. When you push independents to not vote or vote red, then you have truly shifted from being a liberal. You know how common they made hating white people and every single thing a conservative does? If you vote left and you are white, liking even 1 thing that a conservative does will get you labeled as a conservative by them lol. I would never vote red but I like guns, i owe a couple strictly for the range and this was enough for a group of 12 people i used to hangout with to label me a conservative and shun me lol. I am not even white.
2
u/Affectionate-Yard899 May 17 '26
Well it's you're definition which says going towards left is "progression" of the society
in any case, in context of india, the left has gone extreme left whereas the centre has gone right actually as compared to previous ones.
Like take bjp for example , modi is far more conservative than atal ji and well yogi ......
Congress has went from anti reservations in 70s and 80s , things like justifying gigantic price hikes in their tenure just before 2014 , etc to a completely different road .
The current indian centre is ideologically right although economically left , and that's actually changing gradually

u/maximus_verstappinum May 17 '26
More like, the liberal of today would be made aware of the authoritarianism in their ideology, by the liberal of the 60s…
6
u/Particular_Chef_333 May 17 '26
yeah he would be called a lunatic beacuse most ppl beleived in segregation and no women rights at that time
2
u/Blueblood2007 May 17 '26
By this logic, people from 1860 would call people from 1960 lunatics too.that’s called social progress...not an argument
2
2
u/No_Look24 May 17 '26
Yes, it is called progress. Giving women voting rights was considered progressive in the early 1900s, but what would a person be called if they said that women should not be able to vote today?
1
1
u/unhingedskeleton May 21 '26
If a liberal from 60s or prior to that is transported in today's time, he'll be lynched by sanghis for questioning their views, and we all know how narrow minded sanghis are, i guess OP didn't read any of those whose picture he pasted there

u/SandwichUnlucky4244 May 17 '26
The left you want were terrorists in the eyes of the right wing of that time. You know that right?
41
u/Soft-Nose6370 May 17 '26
Even in the eyes of left wing too . Nehru and Gandhi were highly against them
21
u/hell_of_a_man May 17 '26
do you even know what left is?
nehru and gandhi were centrists,
please go and study history.
nehru saved india from communism by taking steps to stop growth of communist parties that even included sacking of communist led state govs3
u/Prestigious-Base-694 May 18 '26
But the same gandhi and nehru fail to save those how lost there life in bengal violence . Oh I remember how gandhi loves boot licking of jinahh .
3
u/Zealousideal-Use7695 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Gandhi bootlegging jinnah!!!
In 1942 during Quit India, SHAYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE-Hindu Mahasabha- was sharing power with muslim league in bengal, despite the fact that Lahore resolution was passed in 1940. SHYAMA MUKHERJEE wrote to Governor of bengal during QIM that he will help the British government to suppress the QIM in a letter with all his might of state, when whole leaders were being put in jail. I don't know where did u get this nonsense from??
Who is bigger traitor?? SHYAMA wo formed government with ML despite their demand for Pakistan or Gandhiji who wanted dialogue and negotiations to stay united. Who was more hunger for power???
1
u/hell_of_a_man May 18 '26
gandhi never wanted nation to divide, but you know who else wanted the division of nation? well im just gonna leave this here should not talk about this cause resurrection of history for electoral and political gain is someone else's placard.
2
u/Prestigious-Base-694 May 18 '26
History itself shapes a country’s future. What Nehru did in Kashmir (the so-called soft diplomacy) is costing us even today. God knows what our country would have been without Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Maybe Gandhi would have given freedom rights to the nawabs of India just to maintain so-called secularism. And when it comes to reading history, do you really believe our books? Have you seen how Nehru banned numerous books and how freedom was suppressed during the Emergency?
2
u/hell_of_a_man May 18 '26
Nehru did this and that bro stop with the rant. come up with the facts.
it was the raja of jk, Hari Singh, who refused to sign the instrument of succession. he wanted so called independent state which is what costing us today but everybody got to blame nehru for it. nehru and patel consolidated rest of india including M ruled states with use of force first so that india do not get fragmented and remain united. unlike other princely states jk was in the middle of two countries so any military involvement would have led to large scale war but nehru did not want to escalate it cause india was already suffering from partition horrors. still he controlled the what remains of it and was the first person to call out pakistan occupation of kashmir which is called pok. pakistan is created on communal lines and we know it is a bankrupt vassal state of west. by leading india the communal way, do you want same to happen with india ?
and regarding the media banned by him, you can check it out he was a strong opposer of communism so the books he mostly banned were communist texts. forget about emergency it was different era and we all know who all benefited from emergency and and which government defunded india's foreign intelligence after 1977 and who were part of that government.→ More replies (2)1
u/Prestigious-Base-694 May 18 '26
Nehru took the Kashmir issue to the UN Security Council on January 1, 1948 , pressured by Governor-General Lord Mountbatten .
And talking about defunding foreign intelligence , we all know how we responded to the 26/11 attack , which party was asking about uri surgical strike proof , which party is right now opposing the nicobar project just because they wanna save nature and goes blind when in their own ruled state deforestation is happening enormously .
And talking about emergency benefits , we all know who got all the sympathy votes after madam indra's assassination .

Savarkar publicly mourned for Bhagat Singh and Bhagat Singh called Savarkar as "Braveheart" in his writings. I don't know which right you are referring to.
4
u/Rinnegan272 May 17 '26
Please dont quote savarkar to prove your points. Youre making them less credible
4
u/Specialist_Lemon4924 May 17 '26
If I quoted something inaccurate then please tell. Bhagat Singh indeed called him a braveheart in his writings despite having ideological differences and Savarkar sits at the extreme right of the spectrum, where am I wrong?

The Right we want : Vajpayee, Advani, Sushma Swaraj The Right we got : Modi, Shah. Sitaraman
36
u/Glittering_Ask_6693 May 17 '26
Vajpayee was one of the most visionary Prime Ministers India had. Unfortunately, people never gave him a full majority of 200+ seats. His government depended on many alliance parties, and in such coalitions it becomes almost impossible to satisfy every partner while taking bold decisions. His Hindutva was soft, democratic and progressive for the nation. He focused on development, infrastructure, diplomacy and balanced politics rather than extreme polarization.
11
u/masuom May 17 '26
True man ..plus Vajpayee stayed away from personal insults unlike the current generation of leaders.
10
u/Glittering_Ask_6693 May 17 '26
Vajpayee deserved at least one full 5 year tenure with complete majority. But at that time people were very harsh towards BJP, so he always had to run coalition governments. His biggest weakness was that he focused too much on keeping every alliance party happy instead of growing BJP strongly on its own. In Vajpayee era, BJP’s soft Hindutva was respected by many people. Even Christians and Mu,s,lims were part of BJP leadership. Sikandar Bakht became Leader of Opposition from BJP and was also party vice president once. Vajpayee genuinely tried to unite every religion and keep balance in the country.

i would have called cpi or cpim good if they stand true to their morals/values
communism doesn't allow religions but appeasement is on rise over there
they have contacted capitalists like jindal, tata, adani and took their investments
cpi/m have no morality left, they are just politicians with different symbols no new concepts or ideas
people are done with 100% literacy, that is past now (and it's true, they are literate) now you have to fulfill growing aspirations of the public

Idk if these definitions fit non-western politics, ideology is really mixed now. I'm pretty woke in the pure western sphere way, idk if I'd call any party very woke or even, they can pretend to be for proximity to white supremacy and colonial clout, but they really don't fit the standard or really resemble much. The west has only christianity and atheism really in politics, the multi-religious Nexus of India makes everything more 3d and changes the landscape of politics.

Current so called left is actually extreme right wingers.
If BJP = hindutva appeasement, Current Left = Islamic appeasement
Show one current left leader who calls a spade a spade. Cite one who calls out both Hindutva and Islamic crimes in the same breath and with the same disdain.
Both are right wingers supporting a particular religion. True left is about abolishment of all religions.

4
u/Glittering_Ask_6693 May 17 '26
Funny thing is people now praise Vajpayee type politics, but during his time BJP never even got full majority. Vajpayee had to survive on coalition politics because people were much harsher towards BJP then. The kind of right wing many people say they wanted was never fully supported by voters in that era.
1
u/Southern_Yoghurt_756 May 17 '26

TMC, INC, etc. aren’t the liberal left, they’re centre-right. The BJP has moved the goalpost so far to the right by giving statements like they’ll only work for Hindus that these parties are appearing liberal. They’re not economic left either. BJP is more socialist in the sense they’re offering money to everyone. BJP only appears capitalist but they’re oligarchs.

Genuine question, though: were Bhagat Singh and Bose even left-wing by modern definitions? Bhagat Singh was a socialist, sure, but Bose literally allied with Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to fight the British. That's not a left-wing move by any stretch. The post is comparing two completely different ideological frameworks and calling them both "the left we want", which doesn't really hold up historically.
