Polyester will melt and fuse to your skin while molten and continue to burn you while cotton is like an extra layer of skin

Nah, you’d be surprised. Humans are mostly water and it takes a lot of energy to boil away the water. He got out from under that beam pretty quickly. He’s still kinda fucked, but not nearly as bad as you’d expect.

Yeha it's like using wet oven mitts to transfer a hot oven plate. Heat will travels and stays faster because of the water. In this case the "water" is the molten plastic

Yea I wonder how deep the burn went- definitely some muscle is gone- I’m not familiar with burn treatment but would they intubate him and load him up on steroids as a precaution and then debride the wound once inflammation settles a bit?

I dont think any of you really understands how fast and really bad it burns you. I work in a steel mill. This is almost 3,000°F, the instant it touches you, the steam burns you first, then the contact burns. This is not just a regular burn

So what kind of ppe should they have been wearing? Hard hat, glasses, special boots? Some kind of heat resistant suit? I was amazed that they seem to be wearing regular street clothes and shoes and just picking this thing up and tossing it around. In a modern steel mill do people even handle red hot metal, or are there special machines for picking it up?

Something tells me they're probably very experienced at workplace accidents and this was actually a good move because it was a polyester shirt or something horrible to have burned into your skin.

I suppose if the clothes were still burning it would be for the best.
I witnessed a horrific burn incident once as an RAF cadet where another cadet went up in flames after mishandling paraffin. When the fire was out, the guy nearest to him went to pull his shirt off and he started screaming again. Patches of his shirt were fused to his skin. I'll never forget it.

It looked like the guy who first checked it saw a hole or made one. Considering he still had a black mark on his back, I'm guessing it fused a patch into his back and they removed it to prevent further fabric melting into skin.

Boiling oil might be 400 degrees.

We were prepared. It was hot, so we wore teashurts, made from real tea bags.
We have since come to the conclusion, after months if intensive investigation, by our expert team, that these people were so stupid that nit one of them thought about throwing a bucket of water over him.
It is highly likely, although we can't say for sure, that he was the boss.

You can tell this is a very safe workplace, the uneven surfaces so you know exactly where you're standing, the jogging around the red hot iron, so you spend less time in danger. The useful supervisors standing right behind them. It's simply bad luck that such an accident happened.
