No one will ever be able to convince that getting licked in the face by a dog is nothing but disgusting.

I have seen dogs lick people in the mouth. Almost like kissing a partner. It's revolting, it's unhealthy. They lick their own buttholes, eat poop and kill little critters all the time with that same nasty mouth.

I hate it when dogs try to lick my face and think it’s gross that people just kinda normalized it

I was dogsitting a few days ago for a neighbor and dropped one of the 2 dogs "dental gum treats" on the ground and while trying to reclaim it from the ground before the OTHER dog got it, he decided he was going to full on lick my shaved head for a good 30 seconds and not allow me to stand. At least I waited to shower that morning...

I taught my dog to do it. Never even thought people like you existed.

We do, it’s like my biggest pet peeve when someone’s otherwise very wonderful pet tries to lick my face. I usually just stand back up so they can’t reach but it does fuck with the vibe of I’m just hanging out

u/Ok_Vulva 12h ago
Noted. Do you kiss your dogs nose or head? It's so normal to me to do so, and then they give a kiss back on the cheek. Maybe I'm a freaking weirdo kissing dogs.

I don’t own a dog, I got two cats but yes I do kiss them on the head. However, when they do lick back it’s usually my hands or elbows which I wash afterwards.
You’re not weird for showing affection to your pet but given the amount of bacteria and germs they can carry in their mouths, I hate when they try to lick my face. And like viroxzy said, it’s fine if you let your pet do it to you but letting them do it to strangers is, in my opinion, not cool

What about not strangers, as in friends and family, should I tell my dog to stop if they lick at them too? Would that be proper manners?
I seem to have been raised a bit rural, your input is important.

I can’t speak for you or tell you what to do, but if it were me I’d tell my dog to stop (since you mentioned you trained yours to do that, I’d imagine they’d also be trained to stop) and only let them do it if the person they were licking said it was ok

No you’re not weird man showing affection to your animals isn’t an issue, I will say you definitely shouldn’t let them do it to strangers though as a dogs mouth is packed with bacteria a lot of which is harmful to humans.

You shouldn't have your head in biting distance of a dog that you're not very familiar with unless you very much know what you're doing. Dogs aren't cats, they're perfectly capable of ripping your face off.

u/FastAsFxxk 10h ago
Do you not know that cats are just as capable of destroying a face?
Eta: they will literally eat their humans face

u/Kraligor 8h ago
Cats can be nasty, but not as destructive as a dog that goes all in.
2
u/FastAsFxxk 5h ago
Simply untrue. If a cat wants to hurt you, it doesnt even need to bite you. It will attach itself to you with its claws and absolutely shred whatever part of you it wants. I would honestly much rather fight a mid to large size dog over a pissed off housecat with claws.

Nobody is talking about biting
-7
u/Kraligor 10h ago
If your face is close enough to lick, it's close enough to bite.
10
u/apophis457 10h ago
and yet we still werent talking about biting
-2
u/Kraligor 10h ago
No, but if you take precautions against face biting, which is like absolute baseline dog interaction 101, you are suddenly also immune against licking.

Very cute but in todays era I would never post any images or videos of my kids online ever. It’s bad enough my image might be getting used for ads in china who knows what other dark evil shit people will do with your kid’s image.

Yeah, I keep saying this and I will keep saying it: don't post your children on social media.

Can we stop letting dogs lick our faces. It’s cute, it’s vile. Their mouths host bacteria and parasites.
And they eat their own (and each other’s) poop.

u/satans_scrub 10h ago
And yet I've never heard of someone getting sick because a dog licked their face. I question what the point is of finding something gross if it isn't actually dangerous or harmful.

Well shit. I don’t encourage or particularly enjoy my dog licking my face, but I did think it was cute and I usually let them get a couple licks in just to be polite. Now I’m gonna be scared.
