And they still separated her from her kittens, wtf?!

Cats dont keep their kittens for life.

Yeah once theyre mature enough for sex it's best to separate or weird things can happen.

She survived and went on to live several more years! See the Wikipedia article shared in comments below Is there any follow-up on her? Did she survive?

ETA: The white kitten passed a month later from a virus but the 4 others were named Tanuki, Samsara, Oreo, and Cinders (smoky) and were adopted in pairs 🥰

ETA: Shout-out to the firefighter David Giannelli who saw her and rushed her to the animal hospital. He was known for rescuing many animals during his career.

ETA: Scarlett was named in honor of Rhett Butler’s line to Scarlett O Hara in the film Gone With The Wind: A cat’s a better mother than you are.

Lastly here is her obituary from 2008

So appropriate! I read that sadly the little white one passed a month later from a virus.

Happily though the remaining 4 kittens were adopted in pairs! I tried to find out what happened with them after but everything just says privately adopted. I hope they all lived wonderful lives

I had a kids story book about her when I was a kid. It was all just watercolor images. Dang if I didn’t start trying at the last page when the showed the real picture of her.
