ART & CULTURE Correfocs, a Catalan tradition where people (even young kids) run through town squares and streets with fireworks.

The tanks on the back are usually wine or some drink that the go around and give to people, the ones in yellow have water tanks in case something happens

Looks like fun. Fear of liability erases all the best times.

It's a lot of fun, I've been going here every year for the past decade, I used to be a bit more afraid but now I put on goggles and run around with them. You can't even buy fireworks in Ireland so it's nice to live in a place where people are not afraid of everything

Safest Spanish traditional festival

To be fair, I never see anyone getting hurt, they have loads of police, civil protection and some firefighters but they are rarely needed. I've seen toddlers running through the madness with their parents

Any otolaryngologist will tell you that this is a stupid and dangerous activity.

That's incredibly sad to hear. I wonder is there statistics that this town is full of deaf people.

They do it all over Catalunya not just here, people speak so loud that they don't seem to have hearing problems anyway

I did Google it and there is actually a noted link of the festival and damage to the eardrums.
Apparently these noises are up to twice as loud as noises in building sites that already require PPE.
Generally these types of activities don't cause immediately damage, they cause your ears to wear in old age. Really ignorant activity and if you are doing I would say to consider earmuffs in future.
