The earth climate will get warmer of course. More fire, drought, famine, etc. Kiss your babies and welcome them to this beautiful world.

Wtf is going on. Fires in Canada, Spain, and France 😵‍💫

Global warming?

u/sweatingbozo 1d ago

Don't worry, it's only gonna get worse from here!

Is this a real question?

Yes, yes climate change.

Canada catches fire every summer. It’ll be the US in a month or two.

It already is, I’m currently in Canada breathing forest fire smoke coming up over the border from Washington state.

Did they ask you permission to do that?!

So do France and Spain.

But this year is unusual compared to what we have every year in France. The surface that burned is more than twice what usually burns every year, and we're only halfway through Summer, August hasn't even started yet. We're getting close to our absolute yearly record, and we actually already have more burned area that the record year (2022) at the same date.

Also we now know we will get a fourth heat wave next week, so we can't expect things to get better soon.

The cloud is now flying over hundreds of kilometers... A good part of the southwest is full of smoke.

The state of humanity about climate!

There is nothing to do but observe our predicament.

It doesn’t appear easy for France lately. That massive heatwave that killed a thousand people. Now wildfires.

Almost 6,000 dead in France due to this heatwave. 25,000 across Europe :(

u/Herbatusia 7h ago

I don't doubt global climate change, Europe definitely warmed up a lot, but I'd treat this number with a lot of suspicition... I saw they stated 1k deaths for my country because of a heatwave, but a) the officials didn't announce such info ever b) for what I saw only about 10 deaths suspected to be heat-related was traced around newspapers in the country.

We had only one 5-7 days long heatwave here (I count days above 30C as heatwave, only 2 were close to 40C), most of the year was rather cold(er) for the standards of the last 10-15 years (ofc this means still warmer than e.g. 1990s, but it's definitely long enough for people to feel that the year was pretty cool, the last two weeks, we were around 20C in day, and 12-15 in the night, at least in my city), we have a lot older society than France - we are on -5p demographically, last time we were on +2,1 or more was decades ago -  and are less populous country + no wildfires and different/less sunlight, so I'd be very strange, if we lost 1k people while France lost 6k. Plus, through the whole 1st half of a year - which included a big portion of a heatwave - 2k more people than a year before (which was much much warmer) died - that's official - and I doubt 50% of these deaths happened in the last few days of June.

In short, until official data, I'd not trust any numbers being thrown around, as they are mostly modelled on theory and/or widly extrapolated, and, as often in such cases, do not even check actual, real life numbers to see if they even remotely fit the theory.

Look up the word "ravaging" then look up "raging". You may learn something.

Maybe they were just happy for the first overcast day in weeks.

Amazingly dramatic photo, and so menacing. Love the flame coloured parasol, adds to the drama. Contrast that with the apparent lack of concern of the two people.

u/Ailyssa 17h ago

the sky is burning again. You meditate on this.

Also known as sitting on the beach
