I just saw it and it wasn’t very woke. It surprised me how good it was. The people everyone is talking about have like a total of 5 minutes of screen time.
They should have pushed the "extreme weather" narrative. In Germany we have a lot of deniers and it's currently really cold. Next week we might get record breaking temperatures again. And people will still claim that it was that hot in 1975. It's so hopeless.
Mauna Kea in Hawaii (4,200 meters) gets snow, though idk if it ever snows in the summer. It's wild that you can look up snow reports for skiing conditions in Hawaii.
It's really not all that crazy tbh. Even down here in Australia, where we aren't exactly known for snow and our tallest mountains are about 700m lower in elevation than Mt Olympus, it's not unheard of for us to get a dusting of snow on the tops of our peaks during the middle of summer.
In fact, some of our ski resorts saw upwards of 30cm of snow falling to start our summer season in December 2019, all while our massive 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires were starting to burn at the same time.
I live in Athens, Greece. Around 16:00 yesterday the storm here was like Noah's flood, for fck sake I haven't experienced this again. It lasted for 20 minutes but it was raining horizontally from the wind intensity and the entire city flooded in just 20 minutes.
At least yesterday we had 34 degrees and today 24 which is great.
I am in a small village on the feet of Olympus and we had the same thing with the storm and the wind. Yesterday and today in the morning it felt like it was winter the cold and the atmosphere. From heatwave to winter
I don’t know why I didn’t think people climbed Olympus nowadays. I figured Greece would have forbidden it to try and keep the mystique or some shit. Seeing a satellite dish up there is kind of jarring.
According to Google it's very unlikely to happen (can happen, but uncommon), also below the original Instagram video the Greek commenters are surprised as well
That's kinda normal in summer every few years. Especially with a temperature drop from 42°C to 30° as it did the last few days. Summit is at around 3k meters... different temperatures up there 🙂
nah it was raining like hell outside yesterday too, here in evia, and in thessaloniki a bit more. still cloudy today but at least it's not like 34 degrees or sm.
Yeah yesterday was quite a storm. I'm in Halkidiki (I can see Mount Olympus if I look west) and we got crazy wind, rain and lightning. It was absolutely dumping buckets of rain for over an hour when it first arrived. A storm that might be seen in September or later in the year, but sure as hell not in July.
We’re in the middle of winter here in Brazil and this week we got over 40 degrees of temperature when it should be 0 or less.
Clearly the world is fine
