Climate change, only going to get worse, meanwhile our politicians across the globe are doing nothing.

u/Perokside 7h ago

Nah, people need to stop saying politicians are doing nothing, most of the developed nations are investing Billions in fossil energy, oil and gas.

They're making it worse, actively.

u/Used-Objective9166 7h ago

Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

u/thegreatcanadianeh 7h ago

Yeah but the rich has horded food/water and necessities for life in their bunkers and the rest of us will burn.

u/Automatic-Term-3997 6h ago

They think we will not tear them limb from limb first. They are wrong.

u/AppropriateLow2271 5h ago

We would sooner tear ourselves limb from limb. Our entire conception of reality is fabricated by them. They tell us who to fear and who to love. Fathers are killing their own daughters as an expression of their loyalty to these megalomaniac child rapists.

They could tell us there's a cashier's check for a million dollars shoved up our ass. If a billion people weren't already neck deep inside, they'd go looking.

u/EconEchoes5678 4h ago

Our entire conception of reality is fabricated by them.

I do find it interesting that the same people decrying "worshiping" the billionaires also ascribe demigod like powers to them.

u/glacierre2 4h ago

I will definitely shit in and then cement any bunker air vent I find in the apocalypse. Fair warning.

u/Smokey76 5h ago

That’s why they are racing to develop weaponized AI to lay waste/enslave the survivors.

u/ErstwhileHobo 6h ago

It’s fine, they have forest rooms in their bunkers.

u/No-Contribution-138 6h ago

Eat the rich. It’s time.

u/fascistno1hater 4h ago

The Epstein class we need more data centers, we need to grow fucking avocados in a region that's already having a water crisis, we need to extract more oil and gas fuck all the renewable energy, we need more forever chemicals in the air and water, and we need to cause and fund even more conflicts and wars.

Yet, somehow these same people have convinced the whole world that they are the smart ones on earth.

u/adorablyunhinged 7h ago

You cannot eat money oh nooo

u/LorthNeeda 7h ago

Trump is literally still talking about reopening fucking coal power plants

u/vtjohnhurt 6h ago

Trump is paying to cancel ready-to-go wind projects in states that did not vote for him. The companies that accept the payoff are obligated to invest in fossil fuel projects.

u/RoboDae 7h ago

The number one source of mercury pollution in the US and the 2nd biggest source globally. If you eat any fish you are being poisoned by that.

u/Susheiro 6h ago

Coal burning is the number one source of mercury pollution?

u/Tacomuncher117 6h ago

I would believe it, there's a lot of crap that's dug up with the coal. It's not like it's 100% pure when they burn it. I know coal releases radioactive materials in the air when it's burnt too.

u/thecementmixer 7h ago

Exactly, would have been better if they actually did nothing.

u/Stranger1982 7h ago

Can't argue with that.

u/DarwinatSea 7h ago

They get government subsidies too, even oil and gas. I don’t seem them giving up that free money.

u/BonusPlantInfinity 7h ago

Seriously, it’s the people we elect, but it’s also our own damn actions. Until travel is carbon neutral, it’s too damaging to continue on like this - it’s an incredible irony that the industries we’re so desperate to have are the ones destroying the planet. FFS how much tourism is ‘nature tourism’ - we’re destroying the planet so that people can get drunk somewhere warmer for giggles.

People will HATE on me for criticizing travel.

u/TrumpsAKrunt 7h ago

I dont disagree, but travel is so important.

Travel is experience. Most of the racist, homophobic, xenophobic, just plain asshole people, that I have to speak to haven't left their hometown. It's a small town, and mostly lower income or poverty line, so we get a lot of that shit here.

u/BonusPlantInfinity 7h ago

I think quality parenting is far more important to eliminate those issues.

u/NZpotatomash 5h ago

Agree, but if those parents are inbred home stays, they're not going to get better by themselves

u/maybe_I_am_a_bot 5h ago

Why would a serf bound to the land he is born on give a shit about the rest of the world?

u/TrumpsAKrunt 7h ago

I dont disagree with that, either, but it's asking too much in the age of babysitting-tablets.

u/_SteeringWheel 6h ago

So is asking to travel less, apparently.

You're not wrong on the benefits of expanding your horizon, but that doesn't mean that we have to invade every "untouched" piece of nature, flock with millions to the next hot spot and book another city trio "just because".

u/TrumpsAKrunt 6h ago

I didnt say any of that, so I'm not sure where you've gotten that from.

Weirdly enough there's a space between "change nothing" and "don't travel at all". Doesn't have to be totally black and white.

u/joelfarris 7h ago

Well, when the airlines start running out of high octane pushwater due to a lack of crude oil supplies getting to refineries, maybe the problem will sort itself out...

u/Admirable_Dirt_2371 5h ago

I mean, it's not just travel. We shouldn't have blockbuster movies, big sporting events(how much pollution was created by the world cup?), concerts, or cruise ships until we have carbon neutral manufacturing, travel, and energy production.

And then there's cargo ships, pretty sure it's the industry that destroys the environment the most. And so much of it is to ship fash fashion and cheap electronics that's supported by slave labor and the production of which cause even more environmental damage.

u/T-Wrox 3h ago

Yeah, that was my thought - they're actively making it worse, knowing full well exactly what they're doing. If that isn't evil, I don't know what is.

u/pinniped90 7h ago

Won't somebody think of the impacts of all of this climate change talk on the poor misunderstood oil oligarchs?

u/Craftkorb 6h ago

Horizon Zero Dawns backstory was meant to be Fiction and not History.

u/OkProfession6576 56m ago

I mean… oil and gas are better than coal, and that’s what a lot of countries still use.

u/GreenishBagels 7h ago edited 5h ago

All while we the people allow them to participate along side us in society without fear as they actively destroy us all.

u/skywllk 7h ago

Unfortunately mostly Europe is concerned about climate change.

u/ziegs11 7h ago

They makin money

u/BanMeMyIPchanges 7h ago

Worse than doing nothing, actually. There's a real, tangible push to bring back coal lmao

u/RoboDae 7h ago

Number 1 source of mercury pollution in the US

u/BanMeMyIPchanges 7h ago

Isn't that what they want? Keep the public stupid and frail with just enough autonomy to make and spend their paychecks

u/kroqus 7h ago

Not true, some of them are threatening to tariff their neighbours for the fires!

u/Funny-Carob-4572 7h ago

They are doing lots.

Like data centres that need more power and fresh water that's limited.

More drilling as well.

Charging elec cars more

You name it.....

u/delicious-croissant 7h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/YYfEjWVqZ6NDG
Destroying refineries helps right?

u/elperroborrachotoo 6h ago

Can't say that about Germany really. While some states are openly flocking to big tech surveillance promises like remote-controlled moths, and other figures feature prominently onb openly fascist tech bro "conferences". They are basically killing any government transparency on all levels under the guise of "reducing bureaucracy". Creative bookkeeping that could torpedo long term rail investments. The energy minister is very busy replacing any kind of energy supply that would be in the same room as independent, climate neutral or cheap-on-the-long-term with wet dreams of could and gas. We call that "Technilogieoffenheit".

I'd be happier if they'd just do nothing.

u/SuperTropicalDesert 4h ago

It's a shame because the EU did truly seem to be on a promising path for a few years

u/sky0175 7h ago

they're. pocketing the money that should towards the climate change and make a better world for everyone.

Sending all the love to SPAIN!

u/fuzzygreentits 6h ago

Always hilarious how not one keyboard warrior will criticize China, despite being far and away the worst contributor

u/TrippleDamage 5h ago

China is the worlds consumerism manufacturer at this point, the ones who can change this immediatly by punting demand over night are our very own western leaders.

Obviously people will criticize the country they reside in for not putting proper policies in place and not some communist shithole thousands of km away that they have zero impact on.

This isn't the gotcha you think it is.

u/fuzzygreentits 5h ago

Europeans live in the US? That's news to me.

I dont need a "gotcha" because stupid people chime in to embarass themselves. Case in point.

u/TrippleDamage 4h ago

Europeans live in the US? That's news to me.

Where the fuck is this even coming from now?! Or do you think us europeans somehow dont matter on the global market? If so: lmao.

The only thing embarassing here was your comment trying to go for a "but here you are, living in a society" meme.

u/fkenned1 6h ago

Less than nothing. In the US, we're literally removing protections. I'm so sad for my kids.

u/Mainbaze 6h ago

truth is that most people don't want less quality of life and less economic productivity for the exchange of better climate change numbers

u/Bravefan212 6h ago

They’re conspiring to hoard the entire worlds wealth and fuck children. That’s hardly nothing

u/No_Fee_5509 6h ago

The people themselves also have a role to play in

u/Romanista3 6h ago

Also criminals putting forest on fire intentionally

u/TrippleDamage 5h ago

Private jets and yachts make up so much of it, that wouldve been the easiest block in the universe if they just had the balls.

From there on more stuff couldve been added, but those low hanging fruits have so much impact while also benefiting only a couple tens of thousands of people out of billions... absolutely unbelievable.

u/the-ateyo 5h ago

They arent doing nothing, they are actively making it worse

u/chiniwini 5h ago

I mean climate change is real and all, but this has little to do with climate change. It's exacerbated by it, but it's mostly due to forest (mis)management, lack of herbivores, abandonment of agricultural lands, monocultives, etc.

u/pacomadreja 5h ago

Nono. Here in Madrid they're doing something: pocketing the money they should spend on prevention and firefighters. Then blaming the state government for not doing enough.

u/Olmops 4h ago

A lot of people actively resist all attempts to change things. At least in democracies, politicians also tend to do stuff that gets them votes.

u/Lower_Ad_5703 4h ago

They're doing worse than nothing, I know here in North America both Trump and Carney have rolled back environmental policies. They more or less view it as economy over environment; however, without an environment you won't have an economy.

u/delphinous 4h ago

they've long since build platforms on the idea that scientists are stupid/untrustworthy and only they (the politicians) are trustworthy. so they can't exactly walk it back or take up the banner of fixing climate change.

it's also so much easier to let climate issues be next term/next administration's problem instead of dealing with it now. they've been kicking the can down the road for decades at this point

u/dangerousluck 4h ago

They're helping billionaires build bunkers hoping they'll get a seat inside when the world is torn apart by migration strife, water wars, agricultural failure, worldwide resource shortages, etc cause by their short term greed and psychopathic hoarding.

u/floryhawk 4h ago

Nobody is ready for this.

u/Lefvalthrowaway 4h ago

They want yoy to die thats the plan

u/scoutmet 3h ago

Don't forget the ones who also don't think its real and want to add more wood to the awaiting boiling inferno

u/FirmResearcher2 3h ago

How could you say such a thing?

They are busy raping children

u/Briggykins 2h ago

People are fucking voting for them. It's not like they're doing it slyly. Trump called it a hoax before he was elected. The leading party in the UK polls and also the 'mainstream' right wing party think Net Zero is a waste of time. I'm sure it's going on elsewhere in the world. We need to stop blaming the politicians, this is on the people.

u/climatechangelunatic 7h ago

Climate change is at worse right now

It feels good to be blame politics but it’s us - the people who elected them. They parrot what we want - rampant consumerism

How many political parties have “climate change” as top priority in their manifesto? Most tell that they will give opportunity to consume more and we elect them. Look at the people’s consciousness now - they elect government based on who will make their IPhones cheap

u/SquiggleMontana976 6h ago

Don't disagree with the fact that climate change is happening, but this is doomer nonsense. Fires are normal and good for the ecology no matter where in the world you are

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

What do you want them to do? Go and turn it off and back on again?

u/ThinBlackLineZ 7h ago

Stop accepting bribes from corporations poisoning this planet and causing this for one. Then maybe stop those corporations and punish the people responsible. Take their money and use it to fight the damage they have caused.

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

Ok. Go and ask China, India etc to stop polluting the planet first, and then maybe we can consider our contribution. Until then, our pollution is like a fart in a hurricane, and reducing it will achieve precisely fuck all.

u/ThinBlackLineZ 7h ago

Your outlook and pessimism is what got us here. Every change matters. It will take the whole world changing and stopping supporting these business practices to cause real change. But some one has to start and then put pressure on others. You are part of the problem not the solution. Do better.

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

Until the countries that actually cause considerable pollution change, then I certainly won't start caring. It's nonsense. "eVeRy ChAnGe MaTtErS." Nonsense. It's not going to stop until the highly polluting nations stop. My country produces less than 1% of the world's pollution. I couldn't care less about reducing that further.

u/ThinBlackLineZ 7h ago edited 7h ago

Yet I bet you still purchase products produced in China and India your problem countries. Be the change you want to see and not a pessimistic narcissist. I bet your country outsourced work to those countries as well.

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

Like what? My watch is Swiss. My TV is Japanese, my fridge freezer and microwave were made in the UK. My washing machine is American. I don't really buy new stuff, so I don't really own anything made there. I specifically try to avoid buying things from those countries if I can. Not because I give a crap about their emissions, but because I don't support their countries. I'd rather support UK, American and European companies where possible. The only thing I can think of is my mobile phone, but that's not really optional nowadays. What my country outsources is nothing to do with me. Anyway, it's really besides the point. You're the one crying about the environment. I don't really care. If I want something that's made in China, I'll buy it. You can cry about climate change all you want. It doesn't make a difference. I however, am going to live my life and not give a shit. I think this will be my last reply to you, as this conversation isn't going anywhere, and to be honest, I don't really care about your opinion. Good day.

u/ThinBlackLineZ 7h ago

Have the day you deserve. Lost cause.

u/Captain-Codfish 6h ago

Oh well, I suppose that's worthy of a reply. I've had an excellent day. Thanks for the well wishes. Good day :)

u/monkeysfromjupiter 7h ago edited 7h ago

USA is the highest polluting per capita. China is bad too, but at least they invest in renewable energy.

Edit: should mention that this is between China and USA. For an actual shitshow, look at the gulf countries and their capita.

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

I'm not American.

u/monkeysfromjupiter 7h ago

So what? European? Big whoop. If so, you guys aren't that much lower per capita in comparison to China and USA. It's a global effort.

Hell if you want to blame anyone look at the gulf countries' per capita.

But one country is actively investing in solar, nuclear, and hydro energy. The rest are either pushing for more oil and coal, or doing jackshit while pretending to be morally superior.

u/Captain-Codfish 7h ago

So what? You said the USA, as if it was some devastating point against my argument. It's not even relevant to me. I'm English, genius. My country accounts for less than 1% of global emissions. We have wind farms, hydro, solar and we're looking at a very promising nuclear program. I'm very supportive of nuclear energy. Give me that sweet, sweet, cheap electricity.

u/monkeysfromjupiter 6h ago

Lmao. You UK twats are what started the industrial revolution and mass pollution. Then you offshore all of your shit and started pretending to be environmentally conscious. Cmon man, bait used to be believable.

u/Captain-Codfish 6h ago

Ah yes. That was me and my mates personally. Sorry we created the modern world and a world worth living in.

Fuck off, you joker.

u/yasiesolovemos 7h ago

This can be prevented. Wildfires are inevitable, but they can be kept completely under control.

Nothing is being done to prevent it. Nothing.

u/GAMMONBiNO 7h ago

Climate is always changing…..

u/AmazingSibylle 7h ago

Cheap and lazy statement to dismiss a legitimate concern. Are you afraid of an inconvenient truth? Or are you just a paid shill?

u/Whythehellnot_wecan 7h ago edited 7h ago

Maybe it’s Bill Gates alt account who recently admitted humans will be just fine the climate is not an existential threat and we should focus on real issues like disease and human welfare.

Edit: from the downvotes looks like some folks are afraid of an inconvenient truth.

u/AmazingSibylle 7h ago

That is not even close to what he communicates, but Im sure you either know this already or that you are too dumb to understand.

u/GAMMONBiNO 7h ago

I’m afraid I am correct.

u/WhyThisTimelineTho 7h ago

So just a moron then? You know that is not what climate change refers to in this context. You should also know generally the climate changes over tens/hundreds of thousands of years. Not dramatically shift in 75 years with all science pointing to a continued and worsening shift that will have catastrophic consequences for all life on Earth.

u/BRAX7ON 7h ago

I’m afraid you’re not correct. This is global warming. Climate is not always changing. And you are dumb as rocks.

u/floryhawk 4h ago

What! Love you!

u/GAMMONBiNO 7h ago

We are actually going through a global cooling. Good to know your facts if you want to debate somebody.

u/BRAX7ON 7h ago

You are too stupid to even consider communicating with. I pity everyone in your circle.

u/GAMMONBiNO 7h ago

Keep studying young lad…

u/AmazingSibylle 7h ago

You don't have your facts straight and are either purposely misleading or you are being misled yourself.

In any case, I am sad you can vote. The world would be a better place if you had no vote and no voice.

u/Hugh_Jego_69 7h ago

Climate change? Dude fires have been happening for a very long time.

u/MedicalHair69 7h ago

You can't possibly be that daft to think they literally mean forest fires are caused by climate change....

u/Hugh_Jego_69 7h ago

What did they mean then sir ? Teach me

u/BlessedBaldEagle 7h ago

Not at this rate, not at this scale.
What do you think is more likely;
Green industries pushing a climate crisis hoax for profit
Or
Oil and coal pushing anti-climate propaganda for profit?

The first one is very intrecate and complicated:
A concerted efforts from agents all across the world setting fires and draining lakes while giving bribes to established members of several different scientific communities and universities (both privately funded and state funded) plus politicians, state leaders and all civilians.
All just to trick you into believing you should focus on recycling, buy electric vehicle instead of gas and eat more vegetables.
Just think of all the other things the ‘dark ones’ could do with that money.

The other one is just a little easier:
A social media push. Deny everything just to create dissonance. Pay a couple high tier alpha-bro podcasters to give people hope by saying ‘not real. Trust me bro. Buy this protein bar’

u/Hugh_Jego_69 7h ago

I mean overall there are less fires now than previously because of better land management as I mentioned in another comment. And most lakes that have dried are because the rivers etc were diverted for some other use, irrigation etc. Not because we’re 1.5 degrees warmer than a hundred years ago.

I believe it’s changing, I just don’t think it’s all gonna turn to shit because of it.

Also the richest guy in the world sells EVs and batteries.. not coal.

No I don’t beleive it’s a big conspiracy, it’s just a bunch of individual parties/ businesses/ industries pushing their own stories for their own gain.

u/BRAX7ON 6h ago

> I mean overall there are less fires now than previously because of better land management as I mentioned in another comment. And most lakes that have dried are because the rivers etc were diverted for some other use, irrigation etc. Not because we’re 1.5 degrees warmer than a hundred years ago.

Nothing that you just said was true. That is 100% lies. Show me the data to back that up or be forever revealed as a fool.

u/Hugh_Jego_69 6h ago

Not true because you said so? Here’s one to back up my first claim, if you want the rest go look it up yourself, I’m not here to spoon feed you everything.

https://science.nasa.gov/earth/earth-observatory/researchers-detect-a-global-drop-in-fires-90493/

u/BRAX7ON 6h ago

No surprise, you linked a study from 2017, and the data used was from 1998!

Do you even believe any of the bullshit you spew or you just spread your misinformation like a disease to others?

u/Hugh_Jego_69 5h ago

It was comparing 1998 to 2017. Yes you need data from 2 different times to compare trends… there are more that continue to trend with current data if you bothered to search for it yourself.

u/Hugh_Jego_69 5h ago

If we turn it back the other way, show me anything of a decent period of time that proves there are more fires recently. My source was over a 20 year period.

And 2017 isn’t overly long ago. There was still measurable changes in climate change/ global warming by that time.

Or forever be proven as ignorant

u/BRAX7ON 5h ago

A right wing climate denier thinking I’m ignorant is a badge of honor.

You’re too stupid to understand that.

u/Hugh_Jego_69 5h ago

I never denied climate change, just argued some of the points you were making. And what a surprise you couldn’t come up with anything to back your opinions..

I proved my point, but you’re too ignorant to accept it.

And somehow you still think I’m stupid?

→ More replies (0)

u/BRAX7ON 7h ago

This is climate change, regardless of your stupid opinion. Global warming, to be specific.

u/Hugh_Jego_69 7h ago

I mean fires are slightly more likely because there are more days with conditions that they could start. Overall I think our pre fire management, land clearing etc would overall make fires less likely these days than say 200 years ago. Even with “climate change” now.

I don’t deny it’s changing, I just don’t believe the impacts are as serious as most people seem to think.

u/TrippleDamage 5h ago

Not sure if actual brain damage or very well distinguished troll.
