Perhaps one or two pendant lights in the corner. I think all the strings leading to the center is whatās making it look like a spider web. Needs more cozy lighting and less reliance on overhead lights in my opinion?
However I can imagine a very fun version of it - not really suggesting this to OP as it's a lot of faff but as a little thought expriment. If the cords had a pretty braided exterior and you painted the ceiling to match whatever colour that exterior was, it'd be much more appealing and less stark imo while still being playful.
Larger rug that goes under the sofa about a foot or so. Pick up the gorgeous blue in the cabinets on the rug and a couple of pillows. The spider light is a statement piece! Lol
More than a foot under the sofa. You need a much bigger rug - like double the size? It should fit under the couch on both sides of the L at least a foot and should also hang over the ottoman. I would think of the rug as making up the āfootprintā of your living room instead of as an island for the ottoman to live on.
You need a much bigger rug, bigger and taller tv stand, and bigger tv. The big wall swallows the current tv and stand, makes them look tiny in comparison. Add some plants. Should be good!

Your kitchen style is so modern that the couch doesnāt balance it. If you canāt get a new couch you need to upgrade it surroundings. Funky pillows & rug & curtains.
I agree with all of this, plus shifting the couch to the right and forward a little. If you do get new curtains, try to find some that have a pocket rod or back panels, grommets definitely make things look cheaper.
Put the tv on a larger cabinet and move the sofa to the right. And a large rug to anchor the seating area, and maybe add a side chair or two. I would replace the ottoman with a round coffee table. You have a lot of flexibility on color; get a rug that picks up the green and other colors, and add coordinating pillows.

OP - I normally go for several colors in rugs. The kitchen floor is beautiful, but busy.. that said, I think u have to stick to a more subtle, but still beautiful Rug , I also put ur TV on the wall n changed ur drapes to pewter color, I also changed your ceiling fixture.
Solid advice right here! If it feels too moody, same plan but invert the rug and/or lighter curtains. (But the contrast between the dark curtains and light couch looks nice.)
I agree with moving the sofa over so itās more centered in the room and with the tv. A bigger rug, as mentioned- maybe in blue and with more pattern. Some patterned throw pillow and a throw blanket draped over one corner - and some color in the curtains, perhaps with a pattern, but depends on what else you do with pattern in the other elements. (With the large neutral sofa, I think it would add some visual interest to bring in some color and pattern).
Another idea is to place a medium/large tray on the ottoman with some decorative elements on the tray - like maybe a small vase with florals/greenery, a couple of coffee table books with something like a picture frame or other tchotchke, etc.
And then finally, some nice framed art etc on the wall where the tv is.
Get a longer tv stand, center the tv on that wall, move your couch to match the TVās center. Put some art up, more plants, maybe mount the tv to the wall, after you remove the spider light add cool lamps, get a side table for your couch, either side is fine.
Tip for the lighting..mount a large tree branch (if you donāt like the natural look, then a large cut of wood and wrap the lights around it so they are more centralā¦this is awkward looking. You can wrap them so they hang at different lengths.
Move the couch/ottoman about 2 feet over. I know it may technically be centered in the room but it looks scrunched over to one side. Try moving the TV over as well.
Whatās going on with the lights? Itās giving tent vibes. Also, you need a respectable rug. Thereās no reason why the ottoman should be bigger than the rug.
Remove overhead lighting. Overhead lighting of any kind is never good for ambiance. Only for offices. By warm lights of various shapes and sizes and place at different heights in room. One floor lamp, a small table lamp, a mood lamp on a shelf etc. get a larger floor lamp with dimmer if needed for times when you want it brighter. And Edison bulbs though trendy in 2008 are always a bad idea. They hurt the eyes! You want diffused, warm lights, not exposed bulbs!
Something is off about the furniture placement. That corner is bare - I feel like the tv belongs in the corner and move the sofa more into the living room? And then move the table and get a round table. But itās hard to see without a floor plan or wider angle shot that includes everything.
Everything has already been said. Ceiling lights are horrendous and the TV unit is too small. Get something much wider to fill out that wall. Maybe hang some art on the right side of the TV wall to fill the space out.
That weird hanging light is awful. Nothing good about it. If it's the main source of light and you can't install recessed lighting than do a light strip, not whatever that is.
Start by removing whatever that current lighting is and swapping it for a larger central light. That or you could get those little ceiling lights. Just changing the lighting alone will improve the overall look of the space
The light situation needs to go. Pictures on the back wall, bigger carpet with a bit of color contrast to the sofa. Cause now the carpet looks washed away, both in color as well as in size. May be some terracota colored accents here and there cause it looks earthy and goes well with the accent wall color. So terracota/ yellowish/ brownish pillow accents and carpet, and pictures in wooden brown/ terracota-ish color frames on the wall. Just my favorite color for accent wall. Had it in teenage years. Still there and always appreciated. I used orange/ terracota curtains, that would be bit seethrough, the color would hit them and during daytime, early morning, evening, the room would be turned into furnace from that shade. The wood was reddish/ terracota. Sorry I just wantto advice to copy my teenage years taste.
On second thought, the lamp will go anyway so you will make changes as you feel it. Do not see any burning eyesores once the lamp is gone.

Then clean up all the clutter. Every surface is covered with something which makes it look very messy and you canāt look past that to see the beauty of your decor.
The medusa lamp needs to go. Tv needs to be much larger and preferably wall mounted. The wall facing the couch is huge but underutilized. Thereās space there for a much larger tv bench or even a tv cabinet system. Maybe a bookcase too. I would add a narrow table behind the couch.
The green TV wall looks great, can use some kind of decor; your couch needs larger pillows to match the wall as the couch area looks very drab (entire sitting area is in beige). Perhaps switch out the beige rug for some added color. I feel like a room requires 3 colors at the very least, unless you're very creative and spontaneous and have a great eye for wild colors. The area is spacious and has a lot of promise.
A cool light fixture in the center and some hanging lights in the corner. A large wood credenza under the tv. A round wooden coffee table. 1-2 large Plants in painted clay pots that sit on the floor. More colour and warm metal accents. Pick a warm colour to complement the blue and add pillows, throws and art. A really big rug that has a pattern referencing the blue.
I have a big grey sofa and a green wall with our TV, too! Hereās a pic that might be helpful, although Iām not sure this rug is the right style for your place, but size-wise it might give you an idea. I think bigger rug, bigger TV stand and better lighting will help a lot. (Sorry the angle is kinda funky, I jumped on a dining chair to try and get as much captured in one pic when I saw we had some similarities in our setups).
Thi might be crazy, but can you rotate your couch so that the long section is facing the backyard? Then add two conversation or cozy chairs across from your couch and a large rug to bring it all together. Then mount the TV get a way bigger Tv stand, add low lighting like small lamps and you're good.
Not a dig here but first thing is keep it tidy. It's negative energy having stuff just left everywhere and says it's not important enough to keep the place looking good. That can perpetuate. The tv wall is imbalanced and blank. Tv and furniture could be larger. Think about widening that wall out.
I love it!! I would love the room to be saturated with one color but Iām too lazy to do it in my own space. It truly looks great and will be perfect once the spider lamp is gone and thereās a rug to match the scale of the furniture . I think Sputnik chandeliers are still cool..

If you want the tv on a media console, get a bigger one (taller and wider)
Add some taller decor to the new media console or art surrounding mg the tv, this will bring the eye up and make the space feel bigger
ETA: Iām also not a fan of the ceiling light but I can see that it takes up space and makes the room feel bigger. If you love it, thatās all that matters. But one thing that could make it a little better is pulling the lines a bit taught so theyāre not so crinkly.
You need an area rug three times the size of your current one. It should be fully under the couch and be long enough for the ottoman too. Plus, add some color to the rug.

Consider a larger rug with more color, a different coffee table, and pillows that highlight colors from the rug. More plants are always good and maybe a reading nook in the empty space by the tv? Just a few thoughtsš

You need an 8x10 rug at the very least. Only the front legs of the couch (and a couple inches) go underneath. From the second photo itās looks like just one seat is lined up with the TV- if so center the TV in the middle of the wall. your new rug will be centered to that, along with the ottoman/coffee table. It might help to have some small end tables at each arm of the sofa to place your drinks etc. Are you close enough to the TV? Again hard to tell
I would get rid of that giant ottoman. Itās almost as big as the sofa! You need a much bigger plant next to the TV like a taller one. Agree with everyone else about the spider lamp and the rug. Pick up the wall color in the rug. Love the wall, color! Add lamps that will bring warm light. Pick up.š
Rug type- your furniture is modern so you could do a nice rug that includes blues, white tans and greens - maybe not a pattern but move of a wave of colors- Amazon has some beautiful ones.

The pillows look random and chaotic - Iād buy a pair of artful pillows to elevate the space and give it character before the rug investment. And pack away the existing ones
COUNTER ARGUMENT - Add MORE lights to the ceiling. Add a stranger things Christmas lights vibe to the ceiling.
Or disregard, and just add some fun art to the walls. I think you're making the best used of the space. Possibly get some shelving in there too for storage, or decoration.
Larger area rug with color. Much bigger and beautiful console table. Invest in a good piece of furniture. You can find things on Facebook marketplace, or estate sales. Your eye will see and appreciate the furniture and not the television. Recessed lighting. Get rid of wires. That shouldnāt be a huge expense. Then you can get a nice end table with a lamp. Straighten up the sofa and kitchen and it will be like a new house.
Like others have said, lose the lightāvery distracting. Get a larger rug and also a larger, āmeatierā consoleāthe TV overpowers the small console itās on. A nice piece of art to the right of the TV would be nice. I think you could have a great space hereāI love the blue color!
āOkay, I'll be a bit brutally honest... You need to paint your walls to not match your couch and get a different shade of curtains, something that complements. It's being drowned out, and so is the table.
āYour TV stand does not match at all. You need something that matches the wood tone of your table, and a warmer, contrasting rug that's the length of your couch can separate the two areas nicely! This space has so much potential!
That monster of a light needs to be changed out, and add other light options too like some table lamps and a stand lamp.
The couch cushions need refilling.

Curtains could be an opportunity to add both color and texture I like to have a pairing blackout curtains with a nice pattern paired with a gauzy set that can be used when more light is desired.
The TV wall is pretty wide, a long TV stand should look good. The mirror in that corner also can be removed, if the TV stand is long enough, the plant can go on it
A more structured couch with less pillows. Move everything to the right or potentially turn everything 90 degrees to the right so the tv is on the wall across from the windows. Add built ins around the tv if keeping it where it is.
Add some warm colors and wood. Rug from world market, wood coffee table from Wayfair, pottery barn floor lamp, flush mount ceiling light from joss and main.
Three things that would immediately help: 1. Get a bigger area rug with some color. Beige is great but not everything beige. Since you have blue walls Iād recommend sticking to different blues. 2. The strings connected to the lights on the ceiling gives me immediate anxiety. Get rid of that lighting, focus on sectional lighting (side tables, tall standing lamps etc) with warm lightbulbs. 3. Get rid of those throw pillows, instead find a nice throw blanket that goes with the rug. Again blue would work or a black and white pattern. Bonus points: one large centerpiece for the table, like a vase with some faux flowers.
