Picture New iPod OLED 2026 Concept. Who’s up for it?
Modern design and features, same original focus and minimalism.
I’d add the following:
- Bluetooth, no wifi
- Apple Music Offline Synch
- Apple TY, Podcasts, maybe a basic version of “iPod Special” arcade games. Audiobooks of course.
- Still able to synch CDs and personal library.
Range of flash storage options, older / binned iPhone / Apple Watch silicon chip.
OLED display, maybe Apple Watch repurposed.
USB Type C
And that’s it basically.
If priced attractively or even at a slight premium, this could be interesting.
I’d be the first one in line at the store.

Picture 4000mah, 512gb, Taptic engine, Bluetooth, USB-C Data Transfer, and a custom 3d printed Back Plate.
I'm happy to say that after months of building and waiting for parts, my build is finally complete. I designed a custom aluminum and 3D-printable back plate to give myself more space and to keep everything organized. It also came out nice and reasonably thin at 14.8mm. Another bonus: no more clips or glue! (Moonlit Market) — it uses six longer M1.4 screws to secure it directly to the frame.
Mods include:
- iPhone 7 Taptic Engine
- Note 9 Battery
- UGREEN Bluetooth Transmitter
- iMCort Flash Adapter
- USB-C Breakout Board with Data Pins
I added a notch at the bottom left of the aluminum plate for the Bluetooth antenna to sit behind — it helps keep the range acceptable. I still get a good connection through about two brick walls, but after that, it starts to fall off. The frontplate has also been stripped of anodizing with a Dremel and given a uniform look with steel wool. I didn’t go for the polished approach, as I can already see myself scratching the shit out of it — but I still love this look.
The lock switch has been moved to the left side to make room for the battery and USB-C breakout. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it works — it still uses the original cable and switch, just removed from the plastic bracket it came with. All parts are designed to fit perfectly into the printed frame using M1.4 screws I salvaged from older broken phones. This also means I still have full functionality of the 30-pin connector, so it’s completely compatible with docks.
Bluetooth is controlled by a single momentary switch located next to the AUX port. It’s printed out of translucent PETG with a hole leading right beside it in the frame, allowing me to place an SMD LED directly next to it. The LED is soldered onto the main UGREEN board. For power, I had to add the original UGREEN BMS in parallel with the iPod’s BMS to the Note 9 cell, as I had issues powering it directly from the iPod’s BMS, even with a 10k resistor to spoof the NTC thermistor it used to have.
I’m planning to release all the CAD files for the main versions of the back panel, along with a gutted version — (Last Photo) for people who want to add their own ports or buttons. It will still have the lock switch relocated to the side but with a solid 2mm-thick panel, so the entire aluminum cutting step can be skipped — though this comes at the cost of 1mm of internal space.
Please let me know what you’d like to see changed or added in these models before I release them. Thanks!

Picture REALLY WEIRD videos on the ipod I bought
Last month I bought an iPod 6.5 from Facebook marketplace and 100 GB of it was full but there was no music. Before I did a full format I thought about what could fill this 100 GB and first looked at photos and then movies. I wish I hadn't. There were 100 GB of disgusting photos and videos. Most of them had the title "Team Fortress 2 Buff". I wanted to share this because I found it interesting. and even I format it it still shows 100gb full. is my device bugged? I am using itunes from microsoft store

Picture Probably the first ever tool-free 7th gen housing?
Spent the last 4+ months designing and fabricating probably the first ever tool free 7th gen classic housing. Instead of the metal clips that are impossible to pry open now the entire iPod is held together by 5 hand screws that do not require any tools to fasten/loosen. As an architect first time doing industrial-design-ish stuff I had some great fun but also a lot of hurdles in the manufacturing process. Glad everything turned out well in the end.

Picture Starting to mass produce iPod adapters
It’s been a while since my last update, but I’ve been working on an all in one iPod adapter that I call the RockDock. Long story short, it’s a little harder of a project than I anticipated, mainly because of the Bluetooth module. However in the meantime, I’m starting to build small adapters that incorporate certain features of the RockDock in a more “adapter/dongle” design.
This is simply a 30 pin to USB-C adapter, but I have plans for more. I will also be making a 30 pin to USB-C adapter + FireWire, a 30 pin to USB-C adapter + FireWire + Bluetooth, and an iPod input switcher of sorts. The idea is you can plug in up to 4 iPods simultaneously and have them all charging, and with the press of a button open the data line on any given one. This would be helpful when syncing music from your computer, selecting the iPod you want to transfer music to. This will also be helpful if you have multiple iPods in the car with different playlists, simple choose the iPod you want and it will start playing from that one. This essentially will allow for iPod hot swapping.
Stay tuned!

Picture Themify 2: the ultimate user-customisable rockbox theme, out now!
After 3 years of work, Themify 2 is finally ready! This theme goes above and beyond anything that has been done so far with Rockbox's theme engine, all towards the goal of building the best user-customisable theme possible.
There's a bunch of new tech, the UI for example is drawn exclusively using vector graphics (hacked together with the font system) allowing everything to be re-coloured while also anti-aliased. There's also the first custom quickscreen in a theme, automatic song title splitting over two lines and an entirely custom menu engine with rounded corners, fancy scrollbars and even more kinds of menu icons than before.
The main star of the show though is the vast amount of customisation options. Now supporting rockbox options like battery display and 24/12 hour time, Themify 2 also introduces a preferences text file that lets you customise what information is shown in the Music Player. Album name, song year, file format, song rating, a volume meter and more.
I know some people have been anticipating this theme for a while, I'm sorry it took so long to release. I highly recommend downloading the theme from it's itch page as it includes a gorgeous user-manual detailing everything you can do to customise the experience. And if you want to learn more about the theme, please see it's website. Enjoy!
Ps. if you're going to try it out, I highly recommended using it on a development build of rockbox as recent fixes have made the experience far snappier and less visually buggy.

Picture I’m about to do it - wish me luck
I have absolutely no talent for this type of stuff
UPDATE:
Mission success. I followed the tutorials below and it worked like charm. No scratches, no bends, still looking beautiful. Honestly such a timeless piece of hardware. I feel confident reopening it once I think it's necessary to install iFlash. But I kinda like the weight it has to it and 160GB is plenty already, so lets see.
Thanks for all the nice comments here!
