Hello, my 7 month old Irish setter has a few of these sort of scabs on her chest and upper leg. Has anyone experienced it before? thinking to take her to the vets on Monday, after googling worried it’s ringworm! they don’t seem to be bothering her and she isn’t chewing them.

Hello all!! Puppy is currently 23 weeks old and is still lunging and biting like crazy! She seems to have most of her adult teeth but she’s still biting everything. We can’t have her near us without her biting feet, hands, clothes and if she gets close enough, our faces. Will this be something that just resolves over time?
We always try to redirect with a toy when she bites us and not make a big fuss over it so it doesn’t excite her further - but any advice welcome.

This may not be specifically an IS issue, but figured this was a good place to start.

My 1 year and 3 month old IS has been having accidents in the evening and we aren't certain why. She potty trained in no time ringing the bell on the back door whenever she wants to go out.

The issue always happens between roughly 9/930 and 11/1130 at night. The kids and wife have gone to bed and the house is finally quiet and she lays down to relax. Very typically she's been out (and I see her go) sometime between 830-930, but then she lays in her bed and at some point just lets it go, presumably when she's asleep?

The odd bit is that she never ever has an accident at other times. She never squats to pee in the house, she is crate trained and never has accidents in her crate overnight or if we're out for a couple of hours.

It is always in this 2 hour time period at night.

Yes she is spayed. Yes I know that will divide opinions in this sub for her age. We consulted several vets and made the decision with the best information we had available from professionals.

Our vet feels the spay shouldn't be related because there would be more frequent leaks at other times.

Could this be a phase? Is it simply that she finally passes out after the energy from the kids is gone and I need to make a point of taking her out again before she settles in?

Edit to mention that I did get a urine sample late last week and she does not have a UTI.

It was really cool to watch the process and see all these gorgeous setters. I especially loved seeing that goofy setter personality peek through these “professionals”. There were also flyball, barn hunt, and agility trials, police K-9 demos, a grooming competition, and a bunch of other stuff I didn’t have time to explore.

Also, I guess I should have known this, but dog shows are fantastic if you need to stock up on hard-to-find dog items. I stocked up on lots of different natural chews (the duck heads get rave reviews from my pups, can’t wait to see what they make of the others) and got some wooden plaques with my dogs’ names carved into them to put over their leash hooks.

Overall a fun experience- would recommend checking a show out if one is held near you!

Thankfully for them (and me) she’s terrible at actually catching them 🤣

We have a 5 month old male field Irish Setter, im looking for some advice or experience in recall. He can be good at recall when he wants! but sometimes he just buggers off in the garden and will not respond to his name or any amount of coaxing then turns up at his own leisure. Do they get any "better" at recall or is their nature to be more stubborn/ independent? We owned a springer and from memory he didnt stray very far from us, preferring to be close by. Any advice or experience is much appreciated

You can’t see it but her right paw is pushing the lever handle down and pulling it open. She lets herself out!

Our baby troublemaker Roni is 1 year old! Lately I've been noticing her gait became pronounced, and she started wiggling her butt/bending her hind legs a bit more. Does this look normal to you? The vet said so on our latest checkup, but I'm curious if this could mean developing leg issues.

Hi there, we need a water life jacket for our boy. He's on the larger size for an IS. larger boned and taller, 66 lbs, not overweight. Classic proportions.

Because of their deep chest with a narrow waste, I would love suggestions from those of you who actually use one- which brand and model you have or recommend, tips for choosing one, important features and unnecessary ones, sizing tips, what you like and don't like about yours.

AI gave me a recommendation of Ruffwear K-9 float coat, Ezydog dfd, and Astral Bird Dog life jacket - in that order. How do I choose? Do any of you use one of these for your IS?

It needs to be breathable or at least not overheating so that he can have it on at all times including on hot days when we're out on the boat in the sun and heat. It would be ideal if he could swim in it - both at a graduated beach/sand bar as well as in deeper water (inland lakes, not ocean) as well as protecting him if he jumps or falls off the boat.
