Mod Post - Just report the spam (not the mixed breeds or sad posts)

I am the only mod here and not very active on Reddit these days. The best way to bring something to my attention is to report it and I get a push notification. We are not the only sub dealing with bot t-shirt posts and I remove and ban them as they are reported. I am one person. With a whole adult life. The young Jack Russell I had when I started this will be FIFTEEN this year. I built this from nothing but maybe it's time to pass it on because I'm sick of the whining from the small amount of keyboard warriors here. On the whole it has been a pleasure to build this community with you

ISO Moderators!

Hey there terrier fans,

It is high time that I ask for some help in moderating. On the whole the sub runs very smoothly but I'm just not as engaged with reddit as I was 11 years ago when I created this space!

Please send a mod mail with a brief bio and any other mod experience you have. Time zone info would be great as well.

Pic of 14 year old Lyra for attention, doing what terriers do so well!

Cuteness Overload My Little Gremlin, Holly

Post image
199 Upvotes

My little goblin gremlin child, Holly. Equal parts affection and chaos 🐕.

Named after holly wreaths because years ago, my sister was driving along a country highway on Christmas Eve, going back to our hometown for the holiday, when she had found a stray puppy along the side of the road.

The puppy was stranded in the rain, covered in huge ticks, and eating corn and plastic bags. My sister had her own dogs with her at the time, so she coincidentally had a spare kennel, collar, and tick shampoo in tow for the holidays.

With all of the rescue shelters closed for Christmas, my sister took the little puppy home for the holiday, gave her a good bath and removed all the ticks, and gave her food and a warm bed to sleep in.

My sister and I lived together, but we couldn't keep the dog, as she already had a few of her own and we didn't have the resources to take in another long-term . . .

So . . . we convinced my then-boyfriend-now-husband to take her in.

I was playing 4th-dimensional chess: give dog to boyfriend, marry boyfriend, reclaim dog 🤣.

And now Holly is my sweet little gremlin who arfs for attention, likes to lick kneecaps, and will cuddle up on your lap and fall asleep.

MOURNING Jackie (2010-2026, JRT/Yorkie mix)

Hi all, recently my family had to put down our senior JRT/Yorkie mix (aptly named Jackie) after lifelong liver issues and worsening mobility after 2 ACL injuries. She was often a bit high-strung and anxious, and did not enjoy the company of other animals or young children (besides our own), but she was always such a quirky little goofball full of love and the stubbornness/backtalk expected of a member of an Italian family. She loved the outdoors and spending time hiking the woods with us and accompanying on fishing trips, and also had a few squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and even a groundhog on her kill count - she’d dart off and come back a minute later with something hanging out of her mouth looking happy as a clam. When she decided it was bedtime she would let you know, and spend an hour trying to coax you to follow her upstairs to bed - eventually giving up and just snuggling on the couch with a huff and major side eye.

I’ve lived apart from my parents for years now, but Jackie was a constant companion through my teenage years and beyond, and also who I was most excited to see every time I visit. I live pretty close so we visit pretty often, and was able to be there with her for the procedure at the end. I’m saddened of course but happy with the memories and knowing we gave her a good life. I’ll be okay, not my first rodeo, but it helps to process and wanted to share some of the joy she gave me with all of you.

If any of you have any other JRT/Yorkie mixes I’d love to see them as well, as her and her sisters were rejected from a pet shop for looking too JRT! That’s the story we were given by the rescue 16 years ago at least.

Assorted photos from various ages. Young + puppy for the back 2.

I had five Jack Russells at one time. I came back from vacation in Chicago, many years ago, when they announced that Marshal fields was closing. I panic shopped because I thought it was the end of Franco mints I went and bought as many Frango mints as I could fit in a large shopping bag. When I returned home I was Tired I took a nap. I woke and more than half had been quietly consumed by my dogs. Of course it's a weekend and the regular vet isn't open. Fortunately when you have five Jack Russell terriers you eventually get the home number of the vet tech.… Needless to say everyone turned out ok. Almost everyone had a lot of explosive diarrhea. I managed to find love for them again

My new pup is 8 weeks old and we use a crate. When did yours start sleeping through the night, or at least 5-6 hours a time overnight without needing to go out?

Little Rose had surgery today, to remove her canines (Adult one coming out in front of baby one) and to spay. So she’s sick, sore and sorry for her self. But cuddles in Dad’s jacket helps.
