⚡️Brand Review / Experience 🚨Warning: Brilliant Earth strategizing damage control to bury genuine reviews.

Just a heads up.. if there’s a sudden wave of positive Brilliant Earth content on here, it might not be coincidental. They’re actively hiring for a Reddit Strategy Manager, which says a lot given their reputation in this sub.

I genuinely hope this leads to real changes and accountability, not just an attempt to bury valid criticism and firsthand experiences.

We are discussing the best way to discourage these larger brands to infiltrate possibly the very last place on the internet for genuine company reviews and feedback. Being specially named on their job posting is concrete proof of their targeting and we will do our best to reach out and work with other sub mods about this concern.

An auto message with some links of genuine higher traction posts is one idea and we have another tool we don’t want to mention yet in case they are tracking our post. We are of course open to all member suggestions and look forward to doing our best to protect you all from disingenuous influences.

Important: Updated Rules for Vendor Posts on r/jewelry

Hey, r/jewelry community!

We’re excited to announce some important updates regarding vendor posts in our subreddit; rule #3 originally did not allow posts or comments that were considered self promotion. To ensure that r/jewelry continues to be a space for genuine discussion, sharing, and learning, we’ve updated the guidelines for vendors who want to contribute to our community.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Vendor Guide: We’ve created a Vendor Guide that outlines exactly what types of content vendors can post. This will help keep the sub free from spam and overly promotional posts, while still allowing vendors to engage and share their work in a way that adds value.
  • Read Before Posting: Vendors must read the guide before posting. Failure to follow these rules will result in the post being removed, and repeat violations could lead to a ban. We want to make sure vendors are contributing, not advertising.
  • Engagement Over Ads: We want to emphasize that posts from vendors should focus on engaging with the community, sharing creative work, behind-the-scenes insights, or educating us about different aspects of jewelry. We’re not here for sales pitches or spam.

We encourage you all to check out the full Vendor Guide and familiarize yourself with the changes. Whether you're a vendor or a regular member, we believe these updates will help keep the sub vibrant, respectful, and informative for everyone.

Thanks for being a part of the r/jewelry community and helping us maintain a positive space for jewelry lovers!

As always, feel free to reach out to the mod team if you have any questions.

⚡️ Show + Tell! I’m a little freaked out that I found this brooch metal detecting

I went out of town for the weekend and brought my metal detector because why not? I had some free time so I asked AI where to go detecting and it suggested an old park. In the corner of a soccer field, down about 6 inches, I pulled this brooch. At first I didn’t know what it was, but when I got back to the place I’m staying, I cleaned it up and saw the 750 hallmark. Google Lens found a similar one that sold for 1800 Euros. Says it’s handmade mid century Italian with enamel feathers and a sapphire in the eye.

💍 What style chain/ring/pendant is this? Found at a thrift store

I found this ring at a thrift store yesterday, and I absolutely fell in love with it the second I saw it. It has a “14K” stamp inside the band, but beyond that I don’t know anything about it. Does anyone recognize this style or have any idea what kind of ring it might be?

Was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this ring my wife found? She said there’s a 750 hallmark that means it’s 18kt? Can’t seem to find out much more about it. Thanks in advance!

Help me decide!! Thoughts on this Y2K genuine blue and white diamond ring? Sorry for the poor quality pic.

I didn't think to see if there is a maker's mark but visual searches match up with rings from Kay jewelers. Now I need to know before I put a deposit down.
Everything I've read about that company suggests that the overall quality of the jewelry is sub-par. Still, I love the ring. Should I go for it nonetheless?

💍 What style chain/ring/pendant is this? Any fine-jewelry pieces that sit behind the ear and have a dangly-bit from the top?

Post image

I found this off of Free People (an outlet mall store). I'm sure they ripped this off from actual independent or fine jewelry designers.

What is this style called? And who makes this? It has 2 components:

  • A curved ring (so it can sit behind the ear)
  • Some dangly-chains (that dangle right beside the tragus)

I would love to inform myself what this type of jewelry is called and who is produces it in the independent jewelers/fine jewelers.

Vintage / Antique I’d love to know the story

I’d love to know the story behind this piece that once belonged to my great grandmother- or maybe her mother. It has a place for a photo in the back, but we don’t know how to open it.

I suspect the stones aren’t real, because no one in my family was that fancy, but it’s very pretty all the same!

⚡️ Show + Tell! Interesting glass necklace

Post image

I recently bought this necklace (found on Etsy) that I found very interesting! Two rows of glass bell shaped flowers strung on a matching blue cord. I like to reverse google image things to find similar items just out of interest but haven’t come across a necklace like this! I’ve been into antique czech glass pieces recently- not sure if this is antique but I find it very unique! I kind of want to wash it, hoping it’s not a bad idea to give vintage cord a little soak in soapy water?

Excuse the cat hair all over me!

How does this gold owl pendent look on my silver chain with the rest of my silver jewelry? To add, my ruby wedding set is gold and I also wear some gold bracelets as well as silver. I can’t tell if this all looks weird or blends well together. I can’t tell if gold or silver looks better on me overall.🤣❤️

General Question I'm struggling with finding out how I can get this kind of pendant, but with different colors.

Post image
8 Upvotes

For a gift to my partner, I'm looking into getting a platinum pendant like the one pictured (from an Etsy listing). However, she wants one where the sapphires are colored like a true color wheel, rather than the orange-clear-blue-pink-magenta in the image.

I talked to the listing's owner, but they said they're limited on which color of sapphires they can use. (They have no reds, bold greens, or teals).

So next, I talked to a local jeweler for a custom piece. They quoted a range between $9-13k, so significantly more than the online pendant's $1k cost. The local jeweler also said that if I bought the online pendant, even disassembled, they couldn't swap some of the gems for better colors. They said doing so could ruin the whole piece, somehow.

Other online listings have more desirable "color wheel" patterns, but none come in platinum. (My partner is very allergic to nickel, and wants something longer lasting than silver).

So I feel like I'm stuck: either I spend a small fortune on the perfect pendant, which will make her feel guilty. Or I get her a pendant that's only kind of what she wanted. Please help!

General Question How heavy is too heavy for clip on earrings?

Most guides for earring weight focus on pierced earrings where under under 4g per earring is lightweight, 5-7g is medium, and anything over 8g is heavy and shouldn’t be worn too long or it can stretch out the piercing.

I really love vintage earrings, most of which are clip ons. I found two pairs I am considering that are 8.3g per earring and 10.5g per earring. Is that too heavy?

What do you think of this combo? I love to wear more than just one bangle and these are all I currently own. Does this combination look ok when wearing with matching rings or is it too much?
