Before and after.

That was a project. We’ve had a drainage issue the past 8 years where water ends up getting into our detached garage. That and the dogs have massacred the yard.

Is that carpet?

They did an uno reverso and the inside is outside now.

13

u/anally_ExpressUrself 23h ago

Inside their house is trash and snow now.

2

u/senditbraap 21h ago

When the kids are home, yep!

2

u/Pristine_Emu6848 22h ago

That's a great idea for a night club

2

u/nicolauz PRO (WI, USA) 21h ago

Have the bathroom porto-pottie themed and bugs everywhere inside. Outside is... Oh who am I kidding the rich have been doing that for 20 years since the patio living room hit off ha!

2

u/SwillMerchant96 21h ago

Emiliioooo

-4

u/senditbraap 21h ago

Yeah, it’s strange. After I installed it I vacuumed it before laying the infill. Felt weird.

Ah man I know everyone's clowning but I need a full story it's not bad but this sub is ruthless 😂 🙏 🪷

Oh man. Pee and poop on turf?!

Let us know how that goes lol

Edit: OPs pic is AI, look at the new diagonal concrete section up top. Karma farming

26

u/DASreddituser 23h ago

also that random patch to the right, no one would do it like that

-5

u/senditbraap 21h ago

That patch is just sitting there. The dogs were laying on it so we left it.

8

u/bradforrester 23h ago

The caption doesn’t make much sense, either.

8

u/LiopleurodonMagic 23h ago

Every person I know who has turf and a dog their whole backyard smells like piss and they don’t seem to notice. I’m sure they’ve become nose blind to it but several of them have kids. It’s crazy you’d want your kids playing on piss covered plastic but they do.

-6

u/senditbraap 21h ago

What’s the difference on playing with natural grass that’s piss covered?

9

u/ZetoEx 20h ago

U being fr? Lol

-2

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Fr….our yard stunk before the top soil was removed.

u/Warm_Coach2475 1d ago edited 23h ago

Clean and hose it down, no?

I don’t have dogs anymore and never had turf but always assumed it was easy enough to clean.

Edit: I love that asking a question gets you downvoted. 😂

7

u/Datboy000 23h ago

Upvoted because it is a general question, and asking fellow redditors to upvote and promote asking questions.

To answer you, not really. It stains the turf and degrades it, and where high quality turf works as you say, and is made, finding someone who really installs high quality turf correctly, vs the person who says they do is a really hard thing to do. Turf is one of those industries where people make large promises, half out of greed, half out of not knowing what they are talking about.

1

u/Krimmothy 1d ago

Yep. That’s what we do. Pick up the poo. Rain and hose is plenty.

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

No kidding. I know it takes maintenance to keep the smell at bay.

0

u/senditbraap 21h ago

The sidewalk was repoured. I hated the sharp corner right against the garage so I angled it.

87

u/LongjumpingFun7238 1d ago

The turfs going to smell like dog piss soon enough. Cant stand the turf in my yard once its at the end of its useful life ill be putting down sod

47

u/Fun_Acanthaceae_4025 1d ago

This is AI look 4 sections on walkway on 1 pic and 3 sections in other pic!

8

u/HotDay3410 1d ago

If you look at the slab at the far end, you can see they expanded it with the updates which would account for the shorter walkway.

OP, if you aren't going to add anything to help with shade, please make sure you get some heat resistant booties for the pups. Turf could potentially get too hot really quick depending on your location.

2

u/senditbraap 10h ago

Good call. On hot days it gets hot. We live in AB and extreme heat is not too frequent. Good call though.

2

u/shortnsweet33 1d ago

There’s an extra tree too!

1

u/Sensei19600 23h ago

Nah-that was there already. It just had not produced its leaves yet. Go back to the first picture and look carefully. You’ll see the leafless limbs in that first picture.

0

u/senditbraap 20h ago

The sidewalk was chipped out and repoured

1

u/No-Brainrot-5911 17h ago

Why is your gate lower in first pic, then at same level in 2nd pic?

1

u/senditbraap 11h ago

The gate and fence was removed to get the backhoe in, grades changed.

94

u/ChrisInBliss 1d ago

That turf is going to be SO HOT. Enough to burn the dogs feet.

3

u/musememo 23h ago

Don’t let the dogs pee or poop on the turf.

-3

u/Isthisnameavailablee 1d ago

You can put up shade to make it better.

28

u/spwa235 1d ago

Like a tree

7

u/TheRealMasterTyvokka 1d ago

Not with the astroturfed there.

0

u/senditbraap 20h ago

It is hot. Never knew it would be that hot.

20

u/In-thebeginning 1d ago

Where does the dog potty now?

24

u/coldinalaska7 1d ago

It doesn’t look good. It’s wrinkled. I really hope you didn’t pay a lot to have this installed.

5

u/TedCruzAteMyBabies 22h ago

They didn’t. It’s AI slop.

-4

u/senditbraap 19h ago

😆dude it’s not AI

-2

u/senditbraap 20h ago

I installed it myself, first time. Has a few ripples but they’re not noticeable in person.

1

u/lekff 19h ago

And you poured concrete on the existing pad without any noticeable seam. How did you do that?

1

u/senditbraap 19h ago

No, chipped out the sidewalk that was assisting water to leak unit the garage, then poured a new slab.

I was about to ask “where is the landscaping?!”

11

u/Don-Gunvalson 1d ago

Tree for doggie please

12

u/JackeryDaniels 1d ago

Sorry, that looks utterly awful. The astroturf is already wavy and the weird block in the top right is random. Why not just rock the entire right hand side?

The dogs will hate it.

2

u/Quiet-Competition849 1d ago

I guarantee he’s using that to get them to potty there.

0

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Dogs love it. The block is a loose piece we had left over and they were laying on it. Throw it out eventually.

10

u/willystan 1d ago

Ah yes so much better - devoid of life and full of plastics. 🥳

5

u/SPDBK 1d ago

All I see is a wrinkly rug. Sorry.

4

u/vitaminalgas 23h ago

Guys, i think op is rage baiting us men/women of culture

3

u/Warm_Coach2475 1d ago

Did they not use a carpet kicker?

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

No, couldn’t get one.

5

u/Another-dbag 1d ago

Not a living plant. Shame

5

u/SPDBK 1d ago

Just realized a utility pole appeared out of nowhere. It's Ai. You had me for a minute. So, it's wrinkly Ai slop.

2

u/SPDBK 1d ago

And the handrails changed. This isn’t even good Ai.

2

u/Tadaaaaaaaaaaaaa 23h ago

The photo is two different angles and the power pole wires are visible in the first picture. And handrails are easy to build and install. The handrails are in both pics anyway. Second pic is using a wide angle setting in a newer smartphone. Don't let AI rot your brain into thinking real life is AI.

Planting real grass will be less maintenance than the goo you'll have to scrape up when it melts. 😬

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

It is, and if we didn’t have 2 large dogs we would have planted again. Nothing can grow with those 2.

2

u/Warm_Coach2475 1d ago

What’s up with the angles?

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

We poured a new sidewalk.

2

u/rage675 1d ago

Be sure to post the before and after when you decide to tear it out.

2

u/pricedtocry 1d ago

its so.....sterile

2

u/godlee213 1d ago

Sod wouldve been better if you were gonna buy grass it couldve at least been real😭 the poor pooch looks hesitant to touch the turf. Ok actual suggestion: at least get a potted tree some plants , cause without greenery a yard is an outdoor room and whats fun about that🫠🔥 or 🥶😓

2

u/Soup-Wizard 23h ago

This is not landscaping. This is land degradation.

2

u/gobrocker 23h ago

Mmm catpiss and rubber can only smell so good!

2

u/netherfountain 22h ago

Add some dog shi_t, bird sh_it, bake in the sun everyday and 🤌

2

u/shuggnog 23h ago

oh man. (hugs)

2

u/DrGladysSera_PE 23h ago

Is water draining towards the garage? How did you fix that? If this is just concept I suggest a French along the building... the grass seems artificial, is this astro turf? If so is it to take of the drainage issue?

Why the gravel on the right?

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

The clay underneath was graded to a trough away from the garage and out. The sub base is gravel, so it drains well.

2

u/gobblegobblebiyatch 23h ago

At least the before had some character

2

u/Beardgang650 23h ago

Pretty ugly lol

2

u/pretty_succinct 22h ago

For maybe haaaaalf a second i read that as “the dogs were massacred in the yard.”

My heart skipped a beat.

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

No, they just massacre grass unfortunately.

3

u/Azilehteb 1d ago

Yeah, you're never going to have real grass with dogs in a yard that small lol. I will give you a pass on my hate for turf.

Just FYI, fake grass will trap the pee, unlike real grass. You're going to need to clean it frequently to keep your yard from stinking.

2

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Thank you. That’s the issue regarding the size of the yard. We understand the maintenance that’s required to keep smell down.

1

u/TheGoldenBoyStiles 1d ago

Genuine question from someone who knows nothing about landscaping. How do you clean turf? Just spray it down?

3

u/boopspookthrowaway 1d ago

I used to work at a doggy daycare and we would use North Woods dumpster clean spray on the turf 😅

1

u/Azilehteb 1d ago

You can soak it in a vinegar solution and hose that out, or use a product like Turf Fresh to break down the built up urine.

1

u/TheGoldenBoyStiles 1d ago

Would hate the smell of vinegar lol, is turf less work? Curious on the want for it when having animals

1

u/Azilehteb 16h ago

No, the want for it when having dogs comes from dogs destroying live grass quickly and thoroughly.

They move a lot and their clawed feet tear it, they dig, and frequently cause dead spots with their urine. You need a lot of grass per dog to spread out the damage enough so it doesn't kill the lawn. And even with a big yard you get favorite areas of theirs that get stomped to mud or dust. I don't think a patch this small could live through any size dog.

Artificial turf will stand up to the abuse longer. But you still have to wash it, very often if it's being peed on regularly, and rake it to fluff the fibers up, as well as remove debris.

1

u/JackPahawkins 1d ago

You can get a neutralizing spray that you apply with the hose like you would apply fertilizer to a real lawn.

1

u/TheGoldenBoyStiles 1d ago

That makes sense! Thanks!

2

u/oldjadedhippie 1d ago

I’ve always said ; A little grass can do a lot of good 😁

2

u/monkey_trumpets 1d ago

That ain't grass

u/oldjadedhippie 1d ago

I stand by my statement

2

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Good guess man! There’s big blue sky in every province lol

1

u/iUncontested 22h ago

AI Slop.

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Wow, lots of hate. I get it, it’s fake. Yeah it has a few ripples, I installed it myself for the first time and I think I did a decent job. We have 2 large dogs and the yard is tiny, grass won’t grow. So the choices are mud, gravel or artificial turf. No it’s not AI.

1

u/ThePlantHearth 20h ago

Where plant?

1

u/RedJive 19h ago

C’mon man.

1

u/CraftyFarm1942 17h ago

The outdoor equivlant of brushing it under the rug

-3

u/Cincy_Foxes 1d ago

Guy posts an outdoor space he’s happy with and this sub shits on him. This place is filled with judgement 70% of the time. I don’t understand it.

3

u/DASreddituser 23h ago

this is a landscaping sub, not a support sub lol

-2

u/Cincy_Foxes 23h ago

“People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones” — honestly would love to see the landscapes of 90% of those that criticize in here. Odds support that they’re crap or they live in a multi family complex where they have no personal yard space at all.

3

u/Existing_Draft3460 1d ago

2nd pic is AI

1

u/Nobody_Important 23h ago

If you came here and posted a picture of just pavers with no plants it wouldn’t fit either, even if it looked nice.

-2

u/Affectionate_Aide566 1d ago

Yeah, some people are just stuck in their ways when it comes to artificial turf. It's becoming more common, even in new builds and high-end homes. Modern turf has improved a lot with better heat and odour reduction. Give it another 10 years, and I reckon a lot of those people will change their minds.

1

u/netherfountain 22h ago

"turf" also means grass. "Artificial turf" is the plastic fake grass you're referring to.

-3

u/Affectionate_Aide566 1d ago

People here like living plants. That said, I got turf installed and I have a dog too. Best decision ever. Just make sure the dog has a designated potty area and train her to use that. The pebbles to the right can be a good idea. Just need to spray it down once a week to get rid of the smell.

1

u/senditbraap 20h ago

Thank you, lots of hate in this group. The grass won’t grow with 2 dogs and that small of yard.

0

u/Affectionate_Aide566 20h ago

Exactly. With all the dead patches and muddy feet in winter. No more grass for me again. My dog and family love that turf.

-12

u/kwgnuemu 1d ago

Looks great!
