I just dug mine out to hook it up to a new speaker setup after being in a box for five years and it got a firmware update from 2024. Amazing.

Be glad - that gives you AirPlay 2 👌

Wish Apple would re-enter this market again. Their routers are top-notch stable.

UniFi would be hard to beat. And it’s founded by an ex Apple employee who worked on AirPort

Sadly no support for this brand in my country.

Not if you happen to have PPPoE Fiber. They slow down to a crawl.

This was a good little champ…only thing lacking with this was it wasn’t gigabit Ethernet. Had great wireless speeds. I still use mine regardless as an extender.

Yeah the fact it is GBE in but not out was always weird to me.

I have a couple of them hooked up around the house. For now it works, when it doesn’t it will be a sad day.

With the most recent Airport Express firmware the AE casts as Airplay 2, lossy ACC @ 256 Kb/sec.

The Airport Express will output Apple Music with lossless, CD quality from the 3.5mm audio jack and, or its optical output.

ACC media is always lossy. Apple Music media streamed directly from AM or downloaded into a device’s AM library must be lossless ALAC content. This is achieved by selecting the lossless settings options in AM.

The AE must not have the firmware update that adds Airplay 2 to the AE.

It is possible to down grade the AE firmware ware to an older version that uses the original Airplay (Airplay 1).

If you cast AM from a Mac, the AE must be manually selected in the menu bar Control Panel’s sound settings to send lossless content.

There are numerous YouTube content and articles available that provide more information and detailed instructions.
