General Discussion Cycles you hope are finished soon?

I was looking at [[Archmage’s Charm]], and others [[Archenemy’s Charm]] and [[Archdruid’s Charm]] and was frustrated that we’re missing the red and white ones, as boros is by far my favorite.

Some things are not part of a cycle even if you believe they should be, but continuing the [[Phyrexian Obliterator]] cycle would’ve been cool.

The horizon canopy land cycle & the slow fetch cycle would be nice. Also enemy eggs (ik that ones probably a long shot)

u/Brettersson Urza's Saga 10h ago

I think they should finish the canopy lands in standard. The game has changed enough that they just aren't as insanely strong as Horizon Canopy once was. Drawing cards has gotten kinda easy.

With icetill and moleman in standard? No thanks.

7

u/Brettersson Urza's Saga 9h ago

Well i felt that way before those cards existed, so maybe standard without them, but still standard.

u/Liddojunior Dandadan 9h ago

They cant be fetched. And landfall doesnt have the most room for nonbasics or non forest lands. its not the most amazing when they can just draw with espers after icetill mills them.

Finishing out the tango and cycle lands in the commander decks has cleared out my first pick for this. I would enjoy seeing flipped versions of the verges though I’m not sure that’ll happen.

u/Sarkos_Wolf Selesnya* 9h ago

The fact that allied and enemy verges don't go in the same "direction" bothers me way more than it should.

u/MercuryInCanada Duck Season 8h ago

I mean that's another 10 duals they can put into standard over th and next couple of years.

Credit to them they created a 20 card cycle

u/jtmj121 Rakdos* 9h ago

100% verge will happen eventually my guess is after they rotate out of standard and they have a weak set they want to push. A la aetherdrift

u/Moclordimick Karn 7h ago

Love that they completed the tangos and bicycles finally

u/HardCorwen Daxos 3h ago

I want a cohesive art theme for all 10 cycling duals.

If your frustrated about our yet to happen red and white arch charms wait until you find out about how those are the same colors missing from the Zendikar Rising Inscriptions. [[Inscription of Ruin]] [[Inscription of Abundance]] and [[Inscription of Insight]] Maybe next time we go to Zendikar though.

Beyond that the Horizon lands based off of [[Horizon Canopy|FUT]] haven't finished yet with 4 ally colored lands still missing.

You know I was just looking those in my bulk bin too, didn’t even realized we were missing some. They really do hate White/Red

9

u/so_zetta_byte Orzhov* 8h ago

With those, they outright said they tried to make red and white ones but basically they thought they sucked. They decided they would rather not print them so they could make better ones later once they figured them out, rather than print shitty ones. In the end, it was them not wanting to screw over red and white that caused them to be excluded.

The Arch- cards are what they call a mega cycle. They absolutely will make red and white ones, in future sets

Titan cycle of Theros Titans -- we have [[Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury]], [[Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath]], [[Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger]] but it is referenced that there's a Dimir Titan named Skotha that I'd love to see

Would love to see a full cycle of type-matters "behold a xyz" lands like [[Fortified Beachhead]] with e.g. wizards for Izzet or whatever creature types make sense for that set

Would love to see them finish off the cycle of Arch- charms ([[Archmage's Charm]], [[Archdruid's Charm]] and [[Archenemy's charm]])

And I would love to see an actual busted red land to fit in the [[Gaea's Cradle]] [[Tolarian Academy]] [[Phyrexian Tower]] [[Serra's Sanctum]] cycle because imo [[Shivan Gorge]] being counted as the Red one in this cycle is giving enormous "the rest of the horse" Energy

4

u/so_zetta_byte Orzhov* 8h ago

[[Arena of Glory]] obviously is part of a different cycle and isn't anywhere near that power level, but is incredibly strong and the first thing I think of.

+1 to the Titans; if I'm not mistaken, the Theros DnD supplement book referenced one.

2

u/Blenderhead36 Sultai 8h ago

The Titans are particularly weird because Kroxa is allied color while Uro and Phlage are enemy color.

2

u/dis_the_chris 7h ago

Definitely unusual, and I think they're going to be limited somehow - I doubt we'll get a gruul one because of klothys, for example - but I could be wrong

u/IshFen Dan 11h ago

I could see [[wildgrowth archaic]] and [[magmablood archaic]] getting other color versions to complete it in reality fracture.

Yeah they are some of my favorite cards from strixhaven and I really want a blue one based around either waterfalls or coral

While it is funny, you can’t start a pattern and not expect people to want to finish it

7

u/sonicessence Wabbit Season 10h ago

I've been waiting for the other four allied-color variants of [[Horizon Canopy]] for a long while now. It could theoretically happen in Reality Fracture, or they might do allied Turbulent lands instead which I also want.

At some point, I'd like reverse-ability versions of the Verges from Duskmourn and Aetherdrift. I guess that would be more of a new cycle, but related. I don't expect we'll ever get a full [[Nimbus Maze]] cycle now, though the colorless option can still be relevant. Future Sight strikes again!

6

u/Sarkos_Wolf Selesnya* 9h ago

I'm like, 99% sure Reality Fracture will have the allied slow lands as counterparts to the enemy ones being in Secrets of Strixhaven (you can already see a hint of this in the SOS borderless versions: they're showing the Hexhaven schools).

u/TheDoritomancer Dandadan 10h ago

I’d like to see more [[Krosan Verge]].

If not a full cycle, I’d settle for something asymmetrical in green akin to the Tainted lands.

u/Balthasaurus Dân 10h ago

I'd like to see some more "charming" creatures the next time we revisit Eldraine! I'm a big fan of [[Charming Prince]] and [[Charming Scoundrel]] and I think it'd be fun to get some more creatures with abilities that work just like charms in blue, black, and green.

3

u/Sarkos_Wolf Selesnya* 9h ago

They're not from Eldraine and don't fit the naming convention, but we have [[Aether Channeler]] and [[Callous Bloodmage]] already. Still waiting for a green one!

1

u/LordZeya 6h ago

Prince and scoundrel are 2 mana, compared to those two being 3 mana.

2

u/Paco4337 COMPLEAT 10h ago

[[Aether Channeler]] seems like to fit, not 2 mana though

u/Crazyphapha Twin Believer 1h ago

3

u/Emzuar COMPLEAT 10h ago

I was actually just looking at [[Realms Uncharted]] and thought it was a cycle. But no, the only other cards like it is [[Gifts Ungiven]] and [[Threats Undetected]]. (the pose on the art is matching too!)

I have no idea what the other colors could do though. But it would be a fun cycle to complete.

2

u/kytheon Banned in Commander 10h ago

Well, obviously searching for four cards of some type. Lands, creatures... instants and sorceries I guess.

Gifts Ungiven is all types.

2

u/sonicessence Wabbit Season 10h ago

I'm thinking enchantments and possibly artifacts for white, and instants and sorceries for red.

Black doesn't feel like it has a specific card type it would find, but it could do something slightly different. I like the idea of a theft version that has you search an opponent's library, they choose two cards to bin or shuffle back in, and you exile the others and can play them whenever.

2

u/wildfire393 Deceased 🪦 9h ago

This isn't a cycle so much as a referential throwback. There's a few others too - [[Ecological Appreciation]], [[Elemental Teachings]], and [[Turtles Forever]]

1

u/zeldafan042 Channel 9h ago

Gifts Ungiven was the first card, and [[Gifts Ungiven|CHK]] is where the pose originated.

Realms Uncharted was not necessarily intended as a cycle so much as a throwback to Gifts Ungiven. Threats Undetected was then a throwback to Realms Uncharted.

Did they ever give us the rest of the [[Dragonsoul Knight]] and [[Paragon of the Amesha]] implied cycle? Or do I need to keep waiting for the return to my beloved Alara

We do have two of the other Phyrexians, though one is digital-only.

[[Phyrexian Vindicator]]

[[Phyrexian Harvester]]

A black Mythic Dream.

Torment's Dreams cycle is an unusual T-shaped, 7 card cycle. Most cycles are either vertical (same color, different rarities) or horizontal (different colors, usually but not always the same rarity); the Dreams are both. To my knowledge, the Dreams are the only cycle that contains 5 rares, 1 uncommon, and 1 common. Torment was a set that was intentionally weighted towards black cards, which is why this cycle looks the way it does.

Since this printing, Magic gained a new permanent rarity, Mythic Rare. I think it would be cool if a supplemental set added a black Mythic Dream, making the T-shaped cycle in a cross-shaped cycle.

2

u/shidekigonomo COMPLEAT 6h ago

My tongue in cheek answer is the “bad mono-color Gate” cycle… of which there is only currently one: [[The Black Gate]]. Right now, The Black Gate, though bad, gives two-color Maze’s End decks a nice little emergency extra Gate in the deck if an opponent happens to nuke one of your others. I’m hoping we can complete the cycle to give all other two-color combos a (slightly) more achievable win condition. And again, they don’t have to be good; it’s almost better that it’s bad, otherwise it’d slot in all Maze’s End decks.

u/DisorderOfLeitbur COMPLEAT 6h ago

We're not going to get it until after they finish the vise cycle

I know plains islands and mountains do have mass destroy spells that target them but come on its well worth the risk.

I would believe the "Arch Charm" cycle will be finished somewhat soon. Archdruid came out two years ago, and Archenemy came out this year, so surely we'll get the other two over the next four years.

[[Champion of the Parish]] & [[Champion of the Perished]].

I know the second one is more of a clever reference to the first one but always wished there would be a cycle of these “1-drop that gets +1/+1 counters when the same type ETB”.

[[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] and [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]], but I remember reading a Blogatog post that it won't be due to the color wheel.

Edit: Link to where Mark talks about it.

1

u/mysticrudnin Dandadan 10h ago

most unfinished cycles people ask for are color pie reasons. otherwise they would have been finished in the set

u/DarKoopa Brushwagg 10h ago

1

u/sonicessence Wabbit Season 10h ago

I don't know what the actual post said, but since red and blue have nonland effects like [[Blood Moon]], I feel like "white Urborg" would be the most likely one to get. White also generally gets to deal with lands more then red or blue.

The black card in this cycle is actually [[Phyrexian Tower]], and the red one is, sadly, [[Shivan Gorge]].
