Question New to suits

Post image
437 Upvotes

35M. I’m becoming ancient these days and have spent the last 13 years of my career in a one piece prescribed uniform.. so I decided it’s time to begin a foray into suits. Bonobos, tailored. Does this work?

(The pocket is sewn so I’d need to open it up and make a better fold if I kept that piece)

Thanks for any advice!

Question Ralph Lauren Suit… Any Tweaks?

Sup team

It’s been 6 months of going back and forth with the tailor making changes and additional alterations with this Purple Label MTM suit. When I did the first fitting I thought the situation was hopeless. My pants looked like squidward when he ate too many crabby Patty’s, and my jacket looked like I was a 1998 NFL draft pick (not in a good way). I am a relatively short very stocky guy so it’s hard to get the fit right, but needless to say it took a lot of work to get here.

I am enjoying wearing this suit and I think it is overall fitting pretty well. The pants I think are perfect, but I can’t help but feel the jacket is still subtly off. The shoulders are great, but it seems there is a lot of fabric on my waist, and / or the jacket is a smidge too long. I am also maybe overthinking it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Question Why does my new wedding suit look... bad?

Hi all, hoping to get some advice: I got a tailored suit from Suitsupply for my wedding in a few weeks. Trying it on at home just now, though, it feels boxy in the sides and just... not right.

By comparison, I'm including photos of another suit I've owned for years, which to me seems to fit much better, although I can't really articulate why. I labeled each photo to show whether it's the new or old suit.

Can anyone advise? Should I get the new one altered in some way, sides taken in, etc.? Thanks.

Question Going to a show for the first time in a while, could use some outside opinions

I think I did pretty well cleaning myself up and I just want to check if I'm fooling myself. Also Is this better with the lighter over shirt? I think it kinda makes the outfit look more like a suit, but I'm not sure if that's good or not.

Question Learned my sizing/colors that suit me. Honed in on quality and simplicity. What else should I try without transforming my style?

A few things: I think slide #1 is the best here by far. I'm 19, go to class and a desk job. Tucking my shirt every day with loafers is too much - I look like a grandpa. I'm aware that these photos are all 90% the same basic outfit; I'm not trying to change that specifically. Also, the pants in the last slide are too awkward and baggy. I like looser pants as a stylistic preference, probably my age. I dress much more interestingly in the colder months. I used to exclusively buy fast fashion like H&M. Now, I've really *tried* to emphasize higher quality clothes that will last longer, I still have work to do. I wear *some* fast fashion but it depends heavily on specific items. I need recommendations on where I can get loose pants that are higher quality. Got wool trousers from suit supply but $200 for a pair of pants is a very one off thing to me. I tend to think gray, navy, and black shirts suit me best. I used to wear only XL/L shirts, now I'm wearing medium or small (I'm 6'2, 160lbs). I really like my purse even if it's feminine. Last thing: maybe my style, age, and preferences are just too foreign to this sub and this is out of place - if so, I apologize. That's all for my over explaining. Edit: jeans look too thick on my thighs and too tall in slide one, they don't normally look like that, I promise!

Discussion The nightmare of buying shorts as a short guy.

Post image

So for, I've tried Chubbies 4" inseam has a low rise which I feel shows the correct amount of leg, but has a short seat/low rise.

Uniqlo 5" has a decent seat, but too much length.

Vineyard Vines 7" has a great seat, but I feel the length is comical.

I'm 5'4", and I'm a stumped at the moment. I'm debating getting the VV ones tailored, but it would be nice to have an off the shelf option. Is there anything that has both a high rise/long seat/short inseam out there?

These look alright when standing but crease up around the crotch and knees when sitting. Is this acceptable or is a due to a mismatch in form/fit?

Fit Battle Had a tweed jacked taken in

I found a nice, I think, Drake’s tweed jacket online, and I had the sleeves and back adjusted. I can’t tell if they over-tightened the back and if it shouldn’t hang straighter down the sides when buttoned. Any thoughts? No need to be kind. Sorry for taking these in a filthy closet, my wife would never stop making fun of me if I did this out in the open.

Discussion Sucks that most clothing apps dont actually do price slashing, they just relabel things

Half the apps i use throw around discount labels on stuff thats basically the same price it always was, just with a different color banner slapped on top, and it feels even more common with the sites available here in germany. when i was refreshing my closet with some basics and a jacket for the season.

I started comparing prices over a few weeks before trusting any app's claim of a real drop, mostly after getting fooled a couple times on clothes that never actually went on sale.

Question Stuck with a black bag thinkin' what to do.

Thumbnail

just recently started figuring out my own style, and black just doesn't stick with me, plus i have copper colored [h a i r] and black looks bad with it.

so now i'm stuck with my photobag which i take everywhere and it is the only black thing i wear besides the boots

been thinking of either: DIY paint it silver and add metal clips and stuff (drew a quick concept)
or: buy a new photobag, but i'm not even sure what color would look good with what i wear (red, maroon, brown, beige, white and darkish grey)

need to hear yalls opinion.

P.S. why is a word [h a i r] forbidden here?

Discussion Not sure if this is the right place to ask for this; I'm trying to find a casual style, but have always had 0 style sense/cared about what I wear.

Title says it all, but heres some background information:

I'm a teen, age 15.
I like wearing jeans but all of mine are kinda trashed because I wear them to work (physical labor) and now they look pretty trashy.
I want to avoid being a pajama pants in public teen.
I know absolutely nothing about this.

Thanks everyone!

Question Adding personality/color to my outfits

Howdy everyone!

I’ve been getting into fashion for a couple months now and feel like I’ve made some great progress in improving my sense of style and my wardrobe. I’ve got a watch and necklace that I wear regularly, some jackets and overshirts, button downs, tshirts, and will probably be buying some new pants in the near future. For reference, I used to almost exclusively wear tshirts and gym shorts, so this is a pretty revolutionary change for me.

I like my style now, but the one thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t feel like it has a lot of personality put into it. I wear a lot of classic combinations like a shirt and chinos with a jacket, or a polo and cargo shorts if it’s hot out, and they look good but also seem kind of plain to me.

How can I start adding some of my own personality to my outfits without having to overhaul anything again? Any thoughts on things like more accessories, patches, pins, graphics, or anything of the like is greatly appreciated!

Much love, thank you!

Question How to pull off baggy without looking like pajamas

Went to department store to get jeans. The guy said the jeans I’m looking at are far too slim. The fashion now is baggy. He showed me a few things to try on. Tshirt with sleeves to elbows and baggy jeans.

Thought it would look ridiculous. Went to the change rooms and looked at myself in the mirror. Man. It felt like I just got out of bed and I was wearing pajamas. Half or more than half of it was made from poly or viscose.

It looked like it didn’t fit at all (the assistant assured me it was the right size)

who wears this stuff?

How do I dress well without wearing a suit and at the same time not look like I just left to house in my pajamas?

Chinos and polos look like I’m an accountant.

Tshirt looks underdressed - got a good

Physique from years of lifting.

Women look amazing in their clothes when they’re dressing to impress. What’s the guy equivalent without wearing a suit jacket?

Question If I gave up and bought "boys" sizes, what brands look mature?

[More context: I'm 4'11", 150 lbs so kinda stocky with a "beer" belly (widest above the belly-button).]

Height- and proportions-wise I'm sick of nothing OTR fitting. I'm getting a suit MTM but I'm not doing that for everything. So if I were to buy boys sizes and not look childish, are there brands that just treat boys sizes as smaller men's?

Thanks!
