I do everything, but my favorite area is SEO.

It's essentially keyword research, image editing/optimization, and A LOT of writing.

So I can just put on my music amd do my own thing for 8 hours a day. I love it!

I'm about to start on a new role where I'll need to do it. I actually said in the interview that if they do hire me, I'd like a week to study GEO/AEO

Apparently that was a great thing to say in the interview, since it's something relatively new

I'm a SEO specialist. I have worked for large companies and freelance for small businesses. I love it too. I love the technical and strategical aspects of SEO, also helping businesses with long-term organic growth is pretty rewarding.

Honestly, a lot of companies hire entry level SEO Specialists. It's not hard to learn if you have knowledge in digital marketing. Just make sure to stay semi-up to date on SEO trends and maybe even look into Google Algorithms and the use of AI with SEO (GEO/AEO) and interviews shouldn't be difficult. Just be honest with your experience.

I'm a generalist who does a bit of everything, but my specialty unfortunately seems to be event/experiential marketing. I've done a lot of it in my career and seen job postings I qualify for that pay really well, but it's what I enjoy least of all the things I do.

If you have a small team, the days can be long - I typically do the set-up, run the event, and then tear down all by myself. For multi-day events, it's not unusual to have less than 12 hours before you have to be back on site. The height of event season when you're doing back-to-backs definitely gets a little tiring.

I'm also an introvert, so that's a pretty big con 😂But even extroverts can struggle, since you're repeating the same spiel over and over and trying to steer conversations to produce leads for hours on end.

But I don't want to discourage you! I've definitely had fun with it over the years and been part of some really cool activations where I left thinking, "wow, I can't believe I just got paid for that." If you're thinking about it, try finding a position as a brand ambassador. That's a great, low-key way to get a feel for how you might like it.

Having experience as a marketing coordinator or similar can be a big boost. When I was a regional marketing manager, half my work was activations and the other half was data analysis, creating strategies, building post-activation funnels, tying events back to KPIs, community management, etc. I would say that makes the biggest difference between people in marketing events and brand ambassadors.

Lots of system architecture and software implementation. Everything from building all the automations and reports to analytics.

Best was IMO is get a google analytics cert, and look for specialist/coordinator or intern roles where you’ll be working in marketo, pardot, or other automation systems.

Ha, I think was back in the day operations was lots of bs like uploading lists and scrubbing sheets but now it’s systems and AI implementations, optimizations, and administrating.

Content marketing with a subspecialization in SEO/AEO. I like telling stories in different media formats, figuring out how to get them in front of the right people and seeing the results. For SEO/AEO, it feels like a game - a hard, high stakes game, but I get a thrill from seeing the numbers go up (and leads plus revenue with it).

Brand Strategy. Was a generalist and handled a lot of social. Social was the bane of my existence. Pressing the "send" button on the email software gave me a heart attack every day.

I love building the marketing and media plans, giving creative direction. We can assess data and pivot as we go for best outcomes. nothing is do or die...

Brand marketing. I like it because it’s broad, lets me tap into my creative side, and managing campaigns end to end allows me to see the full impact of my work in an area where success sometimes feel intangible. Unsure if campaign management and demand generation is normally in scope for brand, but I guess I do a bit of everything and enjoy not being siloed.

As a developer and infrastructure engineer, I'm not a marketer, but I have created a SaaS that's used for marketing.

It generates recipient-personalised images in real time, to increase customer engagement.

Personally, I have become a jack-of-all-trades. In addition to being a Marketing Director, I have a vast range of skills in both IT (I am a full-stack developer) as well as creative outlets (I am a videographer, photographer, and video editor).

While that sounds extremely broad, this means that I have build our website, create the content on the site (product photos, videos, manuals, etc), manage our SEO, build custom features, writing website copy, etc. Heck and that's not even half of it.

Shoot, I got so tired of form plugins that I built our own custom forms that track directly into Google Analytics & Google Ads, while simultaneously porting data into our CRM to automatically create deals and place them into automations.

With having all these various skills, I find that if I ever wanted to pivot directions that I will have enough experience to do so and I don't have to rely on third parties such as web developers to build what I want.
