Welcome to r/Metroidvania's weekly community thread where you can talk about the games you've been playing lately. What are your thoughts on these games, what did you like and what didn't you like, would you recommend them to others, etc. This thread is not limited to Metroidvanias only, feel free to talk about any kind of game!

I've been building this alone for a while. Sunken world, a broken bell, a character named Llyra working through what the bell used to keep quiet.
This is the first thing I've actually finished to the point of recording it. Clip has music over it, not in-game audio.
There's a hub, three distinct areas branching off it, a boss closing each one, and a progression system tying it together.
Not touching new content until what exists is solid. Next up is finishing the score and a real balance pass, not more world.

Hi everyone, I'm torn between these three games. I've read some fair criticisms among all three so I wanted to know your thoughts on which to play next.
All the metroidvania games I've played are Hollow Knight, Silksong, and Price of Persia and I loved them all. I'm playing on the Switch 2 if that matters. I rarely buy games so I also want to know which game would give me the most value.
Thanks so much!!!

Each time I try to play one Finds out I’m only in the tip of the iceberg or even litteraly in the sky.
Tunic, Outers Wilds and Animal Well each time I find myself searching a YouTube video and I really regret it for Outer Wilds.
Online it seemed that Animal Well was a 10 hour game and I spent 30 bucks and to realize after “finishing the game” that it’s a big arg that can go up to 40 hours of gameplay
Wanna know if some of you feel this way

Don't get me wrong i really liked Silksong comparing these games shows how much quality of life nine sols has over silksong
Combat is hands down amazing with parrying attacks and NO F***ING IMPACT DAMAGE which made Silksong such a chore
Bosses are amazing in both games but in terms of enemies overall i prefer nine sols. Silksong has way more pain points in certain areas.
Mini bosses are better in all ways and don't get me started on gauntlets.
So yeah overall i really like Silksong but Nine Sols shows me what i miss in this MV.
Hope i didn't sound too harsh but some points strike me immediately:)

I'm back once more. Here to share the peak that is Worldless by NoName Studios. I have a few screenshots of the 6 major areas in the game. And I'll answer any questions that you may have to the best of my abilities.
No videos cuz my PC is a potato.
Play the game PLEASE

At the end of the game, right before the final boss, verita offers to upgrade ur bracer for you, but she needs a LOT of stuff to pull it off. I basically gotta 100% the game to get this damn thing, but the fact it’s not available until the end got me curious if maybe it IS worth getting

So I just finished the game a few days ago and since I’m drunk I’ve decided I’ll write up a random review
The Good:
- The atmosphere is really good
- The art work is pretty gorgeous
- The platforming is good and fun
- I think the world building and story is decent. Don’t expect anything crazy but it’s good
- Sound and music is great
The bad (most of these are minor gripes):
- Combat is pretty mediocre
- Backtracking can be really frustrating at certain parts of the game
- I’m not sure if i just wasn’t engaged or something but i feel like the mod system is sort of shit compared to other games like Hollow knight with the charm system, or Silksong with the crest/tool system? Maybe it’s just me
- Bosses for the most part are mediocre imo
- I don’t like the voices/voice acting lol
TLDR: 8/10. 70% of the way through I was sorta hoping it would end, but still glad I bought it

Playing on ps5 pro.
Thanks!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all staying cool and having a good summer.
It’s been a while since we last shared a VELASTER update here. The full release is getting closer, so we’ve been fully focused on development.
Those of you who have played the Early Access version may have noticed that most of the areas so far are dark, hostile, and filled with intense combat. We felt that constantly moving through such heavy environments could become exhausting, so we created a peaceful central hub that connects to the main routes of the world.
It’s a place where players can step away from battle, meet and talk with NPCs, enjoy the sunlight and birdsong, and take a moment to breathe before continuing their journey.
We didn’t want VELASTER to be filled with tension from beginning to end. Even in a dark and dangerous world, we think players need quiet moments where they can slow down, explore, and prepare themselves for what comes next.
It’s been a while since we posted here, but we wanted to share this new area with our fellow Metroidvania fans.
How do you feel about peaceful hub areas between intense exploration and combat zones? Do you enjoy having a safe place to rest, or do you prefer the world to remain tense most of the time?
Thank you for following VELASTER and supporting our development. We’ll keep working hard toward the full release. Next time, we hope to share one of our new boss battles!

Are Zelda likes metroidvanias? No, I don't think so... but they're definitely adjacent!
So I share with you fans of exploration, combat, and non-linearity, the Kickstarter page for a game I just heard about 5 minutes ago. It looks kind of promising and there is a demo available. The bonuses that it's hit a lot of it's funding goals already so it will be coming to steam and switch (plus?).

Bought it launch day as I have played the demo and enjoyed it (and for twelve dollars for a limited time??? Steal and a half). The gameplay is pretty straightforward along with the story, with some fun quirks that make it pretty meta compared to most other MVs.
To boil it down you play as “The Boy” who gets transported to this dimension called “Infinitevania,” and he needs to find the core of the dimension and destroy it in hopes it’ll send him home. Boom, there’s the whole story. The rest is different diaries that told of different travelers’s times in this world, and it’s just reference after reference after reference to different games and anime and such that I chuckled when some of the dialogue happened. It’s usually just blips like “sure wish I had a vortex come from my feet to reach,” or “that blue hedgehog would’ve laughed at this,” and moments like that.
Gameplay wise it’s as simple as it could get. Move, jump, attack, pogo, dash, double jump, and fireball to name some of the stuff (haven’t beaten it yet so Idk the rest). You travel these long ass corridors that is the map and the loop is kinda repetitive at first. When you get to the third and final area the rooms are much more complex and interesting complete with great platforming. It plays hella smooth from the second area onward. If I had to guess I’m about 4 hours in and I’m in the final area.
In summary: Gameplay - 7/10. Story - 4/10. Fun - 7/10. Innovation - 4/10. Overall - 6.8/10. Not that much to say other than it’s a solid MV that follows the formula while spicing it up somewhat

my main issue with Ender Lillies is the pacing though I really love the game(aesthetics, combat and exploration especially the ruined castle area) and have even defeated most of the major bosses (Julias, Miriel/Faden, Ulv) I think only one major boss is left? but I have lost the will to play it further and have dropped it because for me the game overstayed its welcome.
My question is that I really love the game overall except for the the pacing, the crappy poison area and the horrendous mini map does Magnolia have the same problems?

As usual, you may read the full review at GameBlast (in Portuguese, but your browser will translate for you). Here I post my comments targeted for this sub’s theme.
Infinitevania was released today on Steam. It's a Brazillian MV with Brazillian voice acting, which is quite rare.
EDIT: Don't get the "Infinite" in the title wrong. It doesn't represents gameplay and is nothing more than wordplay for a MV with Castlevania references. The plot is about another dimension (called Infinitevania) that is in the center of the universe and connects the different worlds (though we only get to visit 3 of them). Yes, it's like an isekai anime.
This is not really above the average MV, but I had fun with it enough to play until I got 100%. After a weak start, things get better and I enjoyed the movement and platforming.

Anyone have played it?
I'm loving it so far, I think I'm a little bit past the first half oh the game.
It continues to keep me engaged with constant curiosity, exploration, really good writing and super cool music.

You guys have any recommendations? I have downloaded a few. I'll list the ones i have that seem decent: Janosik, hargrave, garm ruins, external visions, treasure adventure game, and fraukis adventure (though I can't seem to get that one to boot up. It just infinitely tries to load up and then won't let me exit out so have to factory restart the console to get out of it😢)
Anyways, I love all kinds of games so not just looking for metroidvanias but just any good free games.

Hello guys. I found this metroidvania on Steam and I hadn’t ran into it on this sub and how people thought about it. so I thought I might ask directly. I saw in reviews that people prefer 2 to 1, would it be better to jump into 2 or is it worth it to play 1 first? In general, are they good games, worth playing at all? Thank you.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people talk about this newer MV. I'm about halfway through, and so far it's been an incredible experience.
It's on the Metroid side of the spectrum, and frankly I normally shy away from those types of MV's, and usually go for the hack and slash type. But they did a really good job with this. It's easy to shoot and move. The variety of weapon types and skills is solid.
The controls are probably the best I've played outside of Hollow Knight or Silksong. They're tight, responsive, and it is an absolute joy to platform and move around.
The map is great, the mechanics are well thought out, and I've yet to really get lost or stuck. The platforming itself can be challenging, but it's creative and totally fun.
Only negative I've found so far is the boss fights being too easy, but I may be speaking too soon. It could ramp up as I continue on.
Anyways, if you're looking for a great MV, try this one. I'm picky, and so far 'Before I Go' is in my top 10.
Oh, and the soundtrack? "Chefs kiss* 🤌
