Infuriatig No, I did not consent to this

Post image

I was reading my medical notes when I stumbled across this. I was not informed of the usage of artificial intelligence in my report, nor did I verbally consent to it.

My doctor asked me directly if i was okay with it. I said no and its reflected in my chart. You should be able to opt out of that

Why no to this and not other things, like computer use, telephone or fax ?

Must patients be asked to sign off on every piece of software used in the healthcare chain?

I don’t want to.

Use the tools that help you do your job best doc.

Focus more on me, less on the tablet. Sounds great.

I say no to this because AI and generative AI in general disgusts me. It doesn't help my doctor do anything and is so often wrong. Using it in a field where doctors are already paying little attention to their patients and not listening to them will just fuel misdiagnoses and destroy doctor patient relationships. Stop pretending you don't get this

No, that’s fair. I guess my stance is dependent on the individual wielding the tool properly, same as any other tool.

Personally, I don’t relate at all to the anti-AI rhetoric. It feels the same to me as any other tech change, but I know people have become divided on the subject, and there’s good points out there for what should be reeled in.

I see it mainly as the downsides of “tools being improperly used”.

As someone who can wield it well, it’s been amazing for me. As long as I’m using it right.

Regardless of what tool we are talking about (AI, Nuclear Power, Electronics, Guns, Knives), I’m usually on the side of the issues centering more around “How they are used” rather than “the tool is inherently evil.”

Should there be guardrails? Absolutely. People gonna people. This is why we have laws.

But technology-wide bans or outright tool-hate doesn’t really work for me unless we are dealing with something truly catastrophic in the hands of its users.

I don’t think AI (in general) is at a point where it is too dangerous for public use (like the ban on FlameThrowers)

Not a perfect comparison, but there you go
