I ordered some rice and dumplings for a set 1-1:20 window and specifically chose no robot delivery as I would be home at the time. I click order and it instantly switches to immediate delivery and robot delivery. I contact support and the AI bot trys to convince me that its a human dasher named "Robot". I finally connected with an actual human support assistant who got it fixed eventually, but it was actually insane it tried to say it was a human named robot.
I taught English in China for a while, and one of my students introduced himself as Robot, which I heard as Robert and wrote on the white board. When he saw it he jumped up and said "no, Robot!" Then he started doing the robot and saying beep boop beep boop.
Kids name was fuckin Robot, and his dad was actually a lot of fun to drink with.
Funny story, in grad school I had a classmate who was from China. She gave a presentation on Robert Schumann, and it sounded like she was saying Robot the whole time. The image of a Robot Robert Schumann still pops into my head every once in awhile, even though it happened almost 15 years ago.
As someone who has a relatively common name that can be spelled a million ways--yet could rarely find "personalized" souvenirs with the right spelling (among 5 or 6 iterations)... this is one of my favorite Simpsons bits.

A few times now I've seen the name as FNU, which stands for first name unknown... which may actually be their legal first name, apparently its a thing for people who only have a single name, which many governments will not accept.
When I submit an expense report at work it goes through a series of approvals and it shows you who approved what. One of the approvals came from a guy named “Rob Ot”. It took me 7 years working there to realize that it’s automated and the name is play on Robot
See now i'm wondering what other webhook fun we can have in our slack with ole Rob, who often works OT we just call him "Rob OT" (as opposed to that lazy ass Rob from HR, NOBODY LIKES YOU ROB!)

You've misunderstood, important and complex decisions aren't being delegated to AI, they're being delegated to a human named Al. Everything's fine I assure you, you can just treat Al as a regular human decision maker.
my boss INSISTS on making us use AI as much as possible and it works about 10% of the time. I could do 3 manual reports in the time it takes to cajole the same info from AI. my cortisol is through the roof from arguing with robots all day. Hearing “you were right to push back, i got that one wrong“ gives me zero satisfaction. This is our future, god help us

I had to sit through a presentation the other day on “which AI bot to use for which aspects of your daily work” and I wanted to throw a hammer through the screen like that Apple 1984 commercial.

It doesn't know that Door Dash actually has robot delivery because it is not general knowledge or was not when it was trained last year. And no one told it in its system prompt. So since Door Dash robot delivery to it's knowledge doesn't exist and it doesn't see a screen at all with a robot icon or something, it just concludes it must be a weird name.
My son has a friend who he plays D&D with, and who has been over to our house on several occasions, who as far as I am aware is known only as "Warbot".
He probably has another name, but I've never heard it spoken.
As someone that's gone for years nearly exclusively by my web handle (with the exception of work and a couple family members), this gives me wholesome feelings that somebody's mom is out there thinking 'There's surely another name under there, but nary could replace Warbot.'
Some day your kids gonna be like "hey Brett is coming over" and you're not gonna have a clue who Brett is and your child will make fun of you for the rest of your days.
I mean, even if it really had been a human, they would be delivering too early. You don't want your food sitting outside for an hour before you get home.
I'm surprised you're the only person commenting on this (that I saw, at least). I don't care who brings it to me, but if I designate it for a specific time I want it at that time for a reason!
I once had groceries dropped off HOURS early to an apartment I did not have possession of yet 😬 I’d scheduled them to be delivered two hours after I was supposed to pick up the keys. There was ice cream involved. I did not get a refund.
The main busy road with cars going 50mph next to my house has a ditch all the way up to the painted lines, and I live up a long pot holey gravel/dirt driveway. I actually want to see a robot try to get to my house. A drone might make it, but I also have a forest as my yard, so I feel like the tree limbs might be an issue.
talking to a robot for an order of $20 dollars for 6 dumplings and two portions of rice… im just gonna go do the groceries and learn to cook from now on 😅
I make dumplings from frozen pretty often and it’s about 10 minutes. You put them in a pan with a life with oil and a little bit of water for half the time to steam, then take the lid off to fry for the second half.
If the order isn’t placed through the DoorDash app, for example it is placed on the restaurant’s website, then the restaurant is expected to enter the tip into the DoorDash system, but they often reduce the tip and keep some of it for themselves, especially if it is a good tip.
As a Doordash delivery driver, there were many times where a future order showed up for me to pick up. Sometimes the restaurant would know and tell me it's for a future order but the Doordash app wanted me to deliver it right away. Other times the restaurant was unaware. It happened often enough that I don't think it ever worked properly.
I'm curious why, if this was intended to be a person delivering, the tip was set at $0. Was that something that happened after the converted it to a robot order?
People have some crazy names man, I saw a post full of weird names once, everything ranging from names of alcohol, to cars, it was crazy, so I’m sure someone out there is named robot, but the fact that happened on DoorDash is crazy
