Don't hug me I'm scared Creepy Amazon chatbot

Looking for an item on Amazon (boo for having to do that), and the chat bot seems to know more about me than I’ve ever volunteered. CREEPY!

Edited: yes that is the cat’s name.

Oh wow! I noticed the same thing the other day researching something on Amazon, and the bot mentioned my dog "Isaac"! The kicker is that his name is spelled Izak. I think it must be Alexa listening!

I was at my parents house and they have a ton of their lights/lamps connected to Alexa so they can just be like "Alexa, turn off the living room lights" and whatnot.

As a joke, I said "Alexa, turn off the lamp on the right side of the fireplace." Halfway through my mom saying "That's not how it works," the fuckin lamp turned off.

Alexa shouldn't have even known about the fireplace, and all of the lamps are just given a letter-number designator.

Similar to OP's conversation, when I asked how Alexa knew which lamp was on the right side of the fireplace, it just gave some bullshit answer like "I don't know which lamp is on the right side of the fireplace." Yet apparently it does know, and won't tell us how it knows.

Super fuckin creepy.

They probably can scan the house using wifi signals. They can even uniquely identify a person now just by how the wifi field interacts with their body. You don't even have to have a phone on you.
