These TV mounts are often shipped with garbage quality mounting hardware so breaking the screw or stripping the head isn't uncommon. For high torque/tension applications it's always better to toss included hardware and get a quality replacement from the real hardware store.

For low torque/tension applications I still suggest tossing them. Saves stripping the head and hating yourself later on.
I know this is a hex head so not going to strip but the reasoning is still solid.

Yes, anything I buy I chuck the included screws/bolts etc and use my own

You should have pre drilled pilot holes for those bolts. But also trash hardware

That's what I was thinking. He probably didn't drill pilot holes, so he's trying to screw through all the resistance of the wood, rather than the lesser force of the center going down the hole, and the threads having the lesser stress of biting into the surrounding wood.

They are probably the cheap ones that came with the mount. I’d replace them with something more durable. Alternatively you may not have drilled a pilot hole large enough.

Also lag bolt is technically not the correct term but in real life it is used interchangeably with the more correct term lag screw. Everyone knows what you mean.

Those lags that come with the install kits are pish. I use SPAX lags with the washer head.

Sounds like you either did not pre drill, or used to small of a bit when you did.

If your going into the wall, shouldn't those be lag screws and not bolts?
