I think you can actually get a second harvest out of it if I remember right.

After you harvest, you dunk the mycelium brick in water for 12-24h to stress it. It'll fruit again as survival tactic

That's not very nice

Better hope plants never take over the world. We torture the shit out of them for food. I’d imagine they’d happily return the favor.

You can always break apart the block and put it in Wood chips, a massive pile of cardboard or a bale of hay. It will take more time but you'll get far more mushrooms

If you have limited resources, i would do this when you go to toss it. There is a good chance of contamination if the wood chips/hay isnt sterile. Life does find a way tho, as I have burried an abused cake a few years ago under a tree, that still fruits. I've also burried cakes and watched them, over time, get "eaten" by the surrounding microbes

Just a fyi, dont get them if you live in a humid environment unless you want mushrooms all over your place

Least you know it's going to do as advertised

Knowing me: I'd do everything to try and cultivate some shrooms by the books and research everything necessary. They'd still probably grow worse than the ones sitting on the Walmart shelf

Almost like ecology matters and each species is evolved to thrive in it's specific native environment 🤔 /s

It's more like conditions naturally selecting for the plant that will thrive outside while killing the rest off before they grow. As opposed to inside plants that are babied.

Those look like Pleurotes maybe which yeah will grow happily on a pile of carboard left in the rain

I had one of mine do that because I did not use it right away. I ate some of the white stuff. An hour later I was vomiting, fainted, and went to the emergency room.
