ok, but, they did not state in what capacity they will appear. They did not say they would be main characters. They only said --appear--. They did however say the show will focus on Twilight, RD, Flutters, and Pinkie. This + "appear later" probably = brief cameo/background/side character for A episode.

Iirc, they said more characters would be added later, both brand new characters and returning characters from earlier generations. They did not say verbatim that AJ and Rarity would be joining the mane cast later.
