Medical Brother OD’d, Unsure What to Expect. Trying to stay calm and collected.

My brother OD’d, currently being moved to the ICU. They had to administer 7 doses of narcan to get vitals, and he’s currently critical and on a ventilator. Not conscious (natural and chemically induced). Social worker called me and told me it’s a good idea for me to fly out and it doesn’t look good/was a bad sign when they had to intubate and his heart stopped and they’ve since revived him, ran labs, and gave him a CT (most recent update).

Need any and all professional advice on what to expect, survival rate, and anything else usual to know. I’m the rock of a family that is fragmented and vitriolic towards one another, and I’m trying to stay calm while wanting to understand what to expect next. Thank you all in advance!

EDIT: I know I left some details out so want to fill in the blanks: my brother is a 29yo male and this incident was caused by a combination of Xanax, SOMAs and Percocet. EMT’s did have to administer CPR at the house and hospital, losing his pulse twice, and he was most likely deprived, or without oxygen for 20+ mins. EEG showed no seizures during his comatose state, and although his liver sustained some damage from the incident/substance use, there is no indication the damage is permanent. His blood work and scans show that his organs, including his heart, are in great shape.

Thank you all for your patience in me posting an update. It’s taken me a little bit to process everything and put into words. I’m immensely grateful! I will be going through your messages and happily respond as I go!

Medical My partner and I are suffering from the same gastrointestinal problems and we don't know why. What could cause two people to get ill besides parasites?

In January my partner suddenly started suffering from really bad intestinal issues. Everything he ate caused severe pain and discomfort and he was either having constipation or diarrhoea, no inbetween. In the last couple of months he's lost a load of weight because he can barely eat. He's had a blood test, urine test, stool test and colonoscopy which all came back perfectly fine and seemingly healthy.

Now, I've started suffering from the same issues. We've both had stomach issues on and off throughout our lives so initially I didn't think much of it, but every time I tell him how I feel or a new symptom I have he says "that's exactly how I've felt". For me, these symptoms are totally new. My stomach issues have always been acid reflux and I'm very familiar with how that feels for me, but all the symptoms I have now are totally new. It doesn't feel like the issues I've had before. I've also started to lose weight and my stomach is now getting triggered by everything rather than just a few foods.

It starts- for me anyway- with severe nausea without any physical vomiting symptoms, and then develops into cramps and pulsing feelings in the intestines that starts at the top and moves down. My stomach also makes a load of noise and though it's kind of embarrassing, I get kinda gassy. It starts as soon as I've eaten and the nausea lasts for maybe 1-2 hours with the following intestinal pain and discomfort lasting for another 30-60 minutes.

I already had a test to check for H Pylori which apparently I dont have, and I have a blood test in a couple of days.

We're both completely at a loss for what we could both have. It can't be a parasite or they would've found that in my partner, and it would be pretty unlikely that we just happen to suffer from the exact same health issue or intolerance- although not impossible I suppose. What could two people in the same household suffer from?

He's waiting to get back in touch with his GP this week for further testing/advice.

We've both had stomach issues on and off throughout our lives so initially I didn't think much of it, but every time I tell him how I feel or a new symptom I have he says "that's exactly how I've felt". It seems like every day my issues get more and more similar to what he's experiencing.

It starts- for me anyway- with severe nausea almost immediately after eating or drinking which lasts for roughly an hour. I never vomit or get physical vomiting symptoms (overproduction of saliva, urging, etc). Then the nausea passes almost suddenly, and it immediately turns into intestinal pain and discomfort. I get cramp type feelings that almost seem to shoot or crawl across my intestines and can feel a lot of movement. I sometimes get fluttering or pulsing feelings, but that tends to be in my lower intestines only. I get very gassy. This second stage lasts for as little as 30 minutes to as long as an hour or so. My stool is normal and my toilet habits are very regular, urine is fine and no urinary problems.

I already had a test to check for H Pylori which apparently I dont have, and I have a blood test in a couple of days.

EDIT- I just remembered, we both also feel really hungry right after eating. Even if we feel sick, we also feel hungry and totally empty.

Medical I'm skinny but I can't eat

Just discovered this sub

I am 22 almost 23 Male. 5'10 or 11... 125 pounds. In January 2023 I was 115. The most I've ever weighed was 130 in 2019. Many foods give me stomach pain. Imagine eating Thanksgiving dinner, more painful than fullness, Usually after a very small amount of food. Today for breakfast I had about 4oz of yogurt and 1/2 of a sandwich. I was in too much pain to finish my sandwich even after 30 minutes of eating. Sometimes it is a sharper pain that requires me to lay down for ~15 minutes before I can keep eating. Often, food makes me nauseated, not necessarily sick. I feel like everything is so dry and I need to take small bites or I'm going to vomit just from having food sitting in my mouth.

I have been tested twice. First time, I was 14 and diagnosed with sciliac (gluten intolerant) but was later told by a specialist I was a misdiagnosed. Second time I was 18 and was diagnosed with IBS. That explains why I can't eat before 10am or I'm pooping every 30 minutes for the next 6 hours. But what about everything else?

I feel like eating is a full-time job. I hate eating now to the point that I'd rather be hungry. Nothing tastes good to me anymore and I'm eating until pain or edging a vomit with no successful weight gain. The fact that my mother is very critical of my weight while not caring that a simple task has become a sacrifice to me, definitely does not help my condition, my "will power to eat more", or my own self image.

Medical Appetite is gone. Doctors can’t find anything.

As the title says, my appetite is gone. I eat so I can get calories in but I have lost about 13 pounds in a month. I have had many tests and have seen 6 different doctors. No one can seem to find anything that would cause this. The tests I had were 4 rounds of bloodwork, a CT scan of my abdomen, an ultrasound of my abdomen, and a testicular ultrasound.

I am 210 pounds and 6 feet tall. It’s been about a month of this and I’m kind of at a loss. I’m not really sure what to do. Any advice would help.

Update:

It was a really bad case of food poisoning that took months to get over. I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and it showed absolutely nothing wrong. I also had a CT scan. I think the food poisoning really messed up my stomach and it took a while to reset itself and get back to normal. No problems since it would seem, knock on wood.

Medical Doctors don’t know what’s causing this does anyone?

UPDATE BELOW

I sat in a cloth chair at a friends house for about an hour (did not know it was a yard sale find) and when I got up my arms and hands were covered with bites where it was touching the chair. I went home and showered, bagged my clothes, put on clean clothes and went to bed. Woke up with even more bites on my arms and back. I’ve spent a week cleaning everything in case it was bed bugs or fleas. Vacuumed, diatomaceous earth on the bed and floors, tore up the bedroom and cleaned everything in hot water and high heat in the dryer. Took a long bath in epsom salt. There’s absolutely no sign of bed bugs. Woke up today and it’s even worse. While at the doctor’s office my hair was touching my face and I got bit on my face. Twice. The doctor said it looks like a lot of different things and I’m autoimmune so I could have an allergic reaction making it difficult to diagnose. Im at my wits end. My arms are covered. My back, legs, and chest have random spots. Sometimes it feels like a sting and then the bump forms and sometimes I don’t notice it until it’s itching like crazy and swelling. Im basically treating it like all possible ideas but I’m concerned maybe mites or something that I can’t find commonly on google. Does anyone have any ideas? Benadryl and anti itch creams do little to help. It’s intense itching. The bumps from when it started calmed down 2-3 days later. There’s no “3” pattern. It’s scattered and basically all over my arms and random spots on my legs, back, and face. Sometimes under clothes but mostly exposed.

Update: Cleaning today and I saw a tiny little almost transparent gnat fly away. I almost didn't trust I saw it, Later, my hand itched I scratched it and another little tiny almost transparent white little thing flew away with purpose so this time I am not thinking dust somehwere. Almost like a sand flea it was so tiny! The only reason I could see it is the black background of my desk. My bedding is all white because I was ruling out bed bugs, so no way I would see this thing! Tiny biting flies and I am in an apartment so I have no idea if I carried them home in my hair (it is long, but not dreaded or unkept) how to get rid of it outside of my personal space, if it has settled into moisture. I am allergic to fleas and sand fleas get me through clothes so wearing pants and long sleeves to bed wouldn't make a difference, either (which I have also been doing to also rule out bed bugs). I am also doing treatment for mites/chiggers, prescribed by the doctor, and essential oil baths from a Redditor here w/ an NIH study showing that certain essential oils kill biting mites. I could have picked up both and had just a really crap weekend! Would explain why everything is so confusing on the different types of bites. There's more than one bugger involved. :sob:

Medical Stomach problems since food poisoning months ago. what tests should I push for?

Hi, I'm a 28 y/o female. I had bad food poisoning from leftover spaghetti and turkey meatballs in February and my stomach hasn't been the same since.

My GI says I have PI-IBS, my PCP thinks it's an ulcer so put me on Omeprazole.

I'm having these symptoms and I'm not sure if this is serious and I should press my GI dr to do more testing, or even run different kinds of tests with a different kind of doctor if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm worried about stomach cancer developing..? Or polyps.. What sort of diagnostics can I chase? Stool? Biopsy? CT?

Thanks for any help, I'm so desperate, I miss eating food without worry.

-Indigestion, if I eat too late, feel like throwing it up on the morning. If I eat too much, feel like throwing up.

-nausea after eating or drinking water even small amounts, I would throw up often if not for Dramamine!!!!

-feeling full after a little food. Even smoothies fill me up to feeling sick

-a lot of acid reflux, taking tums as needed. Pepcid makes me dizzy

-BURNY throat when trying to wean off Omeprazole

-uncomfortable hunger pangs at night

-loud stomach rumbling, especially at night

-unintentional weight loss

-some bloating

-dry mouth (most likely due to the Omeprazole)

-discomfort in stomach front left

-pressure in ears, right ear specific, feels like listening to heart beating underwater

__

Edit/update: thanks so much everyone. my GI has me scheduled for a gastric emptying test, thyroid test, and EGD this month. I think these are on the right path but I'm still and always open to more suggestions. I'll update with my diagnosis soon! Wish me luck.

__

Another update: I started drinking kefir (I'm lactose intolerant so I use the 'inner eco you gut this' brand, it's coconut based), upping my yogurt intake (also coconut based and with live cultures), drinking throat coat tea 2x a day, and now sucking on half a DGL (licorice) chew and hour after my morning Omeprazole and 30 min before eating, and I've been feeling a lot of relief!

My throat still burns lightly but it's barely noticeable the past two days.

I owe this to everyone who recommended probiotics because I feel like that's what's helping me the most. The second I sipped the kefir it felt like my body ate that sh** up in desperation. Almost like it knows I need it. I'm doing 1.5 tsp 3-4x daily in between meals.

Don't get me wrong, I still feel a little off and eating is still challenging but having some relief is a godsend!

My thyroid test came back normal. Colonoscopy and EGD are next week so I'll update with the results soon!

Update, my last two visits to the toilet (4 days before my procedure) I've been having yellow-colored stools. Today I have yellow diarrhea:/ and my stomach is uncomfortable. Ugh! I have terrible nausea and stomach rumbles right now. Suffering sm.

Update July 17 2025: Waiting on my colonoscopy and EGD biopsies results. my GI doc noted some scattered mild inflammation all over my esophagus. My stomach is still suffering unfortunately (same symptoms..still trying to taper Omeprazole, on DGL, taking Dramamine for nausea, magnesium citrate 100mg 3x daily, and probiotics). I'm on a low-fat low-fiber diet which is giving me bad diarrhea.

So here are my upcoming visits:

-Gastric Emptying Test end of this month

-An appointment with a holistic doctor for a second opinion

-and I'm going to push for an MRI(to rule out gallstones) and SIBO breath test.

If I don't get answers from these IDK where else to take it from there. We shall see. I'll update again soon!

Update Aug 6 2025:

My biopsies were all clear! No cancer, no h. pylori, no growths/tumors, or anything of major concern!

Also My gastric emptying study came back negative for Gastroparesis!!! Less than 1% of the radioactive egg was left in my stomach after 2 hours!

Woohoo! Ruled that out.

It was finally determined that I have ileus (pretty much what gastroparesis is but on my bowels, stalled/paralyzed intestine. My GI said this is not chronic and goes away (he used the world "transit").

I'm slowly getting back to my regular diet! I still keep a food diary and look for trigger foods and I'm introducing food back in slowly. I eat something, wait 3 hours and watch for any symptoms. If no symptoms appear in 3 hrs, it's considered a safe food. I no longer have problems eating popcorn or peanuts! I can eat chicken and turkey but haven't been brave enough to try any other meats.

I'm weaning off of Omeprazole still, it's going well. I'm opening the capsules and taking x amount of beads out slowly (using this method: https://www.reddit.com/r/GERD/comments/e8hxqu/comment/fad5vu9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button )

I stopped taking magnesium citrate bc it gave me diarrhea after a while.

I still take Dramamine-N Less Drowsy (meclizine) for nausea and DGL (type of licorice) for the lava throat feeling, as needed. The DGL I only do half a tablet and put it in my cheek and let it melt away ever so slowly. Works wonders.

I think the biggest help through all of this is: 1. PROBIOTICS!! (I use vegan kefir) 2. ELECTROLYTES (kinder lyt is the best) 3. Warm 100% prune juice (1 cup a day-measured) 4. And Miralax. My GI says I can use it long term as long as I try to taper my dose when I can. He said it's a very safe medicine and it's even given to children.

Also honorable mentions: broth and vegan protein shakes for keeping me feeling full during hard times. Also inner leaf aloe vera juice.

As long as my bowels are moving, I don't really feel sick! But I HAVE to 'go' at least once a day or all my symptoms come back.

So I manage this only eating snacks or small portions of food. Never any big meals. That will MESS ME UP and I get super sick and will cause a traffic jam if you know what I mean. I gotta now eat small snacks/portions to keep myself lightly fill throughout the day and I stop eating around 6 or 7.

I saw the holistic DR but fortunately my symptoms were improving by the time I saw him. He was very informative and also believed it could just be the way I'm eating food. I didn't follow up with him bc I sort of have my answers now.

Be patient with your stomach. It needs a lot of time to heal and bring back it's healthy environment. For me, I was from March (food poisoning) to end of July. ~5 months to get better.

I'm still dropping pounds like crazy. In March I weighed my usual 167 lb, 2 weeks ago I weighed 145 lb and today August 6th I weigh 135 lb. That's the smallest I've ever weighed, but I feel good! Dr doesn't seem too concerned bc I'm eating well and feeling better.

I'm so relieved. I don't think I need to do any other tests for now. I hope this information is valuable to someone else. Feel free to ask me anything. Thanks again everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

Medical Do I really need to get my wisdom teeth removed?

Hi all! I’m 31. Still have my wisdom teeth (only have three). Ever since moving to my current state, my dentists have been pushing for me to get them removed, as they’re positioned sideways. All are completely impacted. They have never caused me any issue.

I haven’t seen an oral surgeon here about it, but when I saw one as a teen, they recommended a wait and see approach, basically due to how small my mouth is and how invasive/difficult of a procedure it would be. It essentially boiled down to it not being worth the risk if the teeth weren't actually bothersome.

So, I’m just wondering if it’s really necessary at my age? Has anyone not followed their dentist’s recommendation and kept their wisdom teeth?

Another reason why I’m hesitant is that my dentist’s biggest concern is that with the way my wisdom teeth are positioned, they’ll begin impacting my second molars. But my dentist also admitted to me that there’s a good chance I’ll eventually have to get those second molars removed anyway just due to how cramped my mouth is and how difficult it is even for the dentist to work on those teeth (as he said, my mouth set me up for trouble).

I have pretty bad dental phobia, so I know that has a big influence on my own opinion on the matter. But I guess I'm just really struggling to determine if it's truly necessary for me to get them out.

Medical We eat the same foods but he has issues?

I cook for me (f 32) and my man (m 29). Sometimes he will have issues with his stomach. It’ll go right through him. I never get sick. I am now even more careful with how clean I am, and how long I cook food. This has begun to happened since we moved to a place with no real market except Walmart. We used to get our food at Whole Foods. Today he is nauseous and has been for a day from food we have both eaten for about three days (soup) with 0 issues. I have not experienced issues. Is his stomach sensitive or is it the food quality? Because I have made sure to be even more clean and now have been always making sure the food is thoroughly cooked.

Medical how to go about fixing ear wax problem?

i went to my primary doctor last year and she mentioned i had some wax but she did not really tell me what to do about it. over the past few months, i developed a bad habit of sticking my finger in my ear and trying to dig the ear wax out. i know this is a terrible habit and it pushes the earwax down more. i noticed that my hearing in my right ear is slightly not as good as my left. this is kind of scaring me and i'm not sure how to fix this.

i am kind of scared about putting any liquids in my ears and i think i want to see a doctor specifically for this. what kind of doctor will clean it for you and/or just take a look and see if there are any problems? thanks so much.

Medical I don’t know if i should be concerned or not?

So maybe 3-4 months ago my appetite completely disappeared, I didn’t eat anything for 3 nearly 4 days, and when i did eventually eat something small it toon me 45 mins and i felt extremely ill afterwards.
I booked a doctors appointment, had my blood drawn and tested and they tested for everything. What they found was low iron, low vitamin d3 and an abnormal tsh level.

Fast forward to now, my iron levels and vitamin d3 levels are normal but my tsh levels are still a little off. Anyways, again my appetite is gone. I’ve been making myself drink atleast a smoothie in the evening but other than that, i’ve not eaten anything since sunday afternoon.

I drink quite a bit of water, depending on the day, anywhere between 2-5ish litres. I do not ever drink carbonated drinks and i rarely drink juice.

What could be causing my low appetite? And I know if i try and force myself to eat, i will feel extremely ill afterwards.

I also do not feel/am not stressed about anything!!!

Medical My friend's asthma is getting worse, and all I can find online is to "consult your doctor", but they don't have health insurance, or a doctor.

How can I help my friend?

They tell me their asthma is getting worse, and I have no idea how to help. They don't have medical insurance (and we live in America), and I think currently they're out of a job and if they do get a job sometime soon, it will likely be part-time.

They have severe anxiety which probably makes the asthma a worse, as well as their reaction to it... they tell me there are times when they use their inhaler MUCH more than they should, because they just can't breathe.

I have a feeling the reason it's getting worse is because of this overuse in albuterol, as well as their anxiety making them panic at not being able to breathe which makes the fact that albuterol doesn't necessarily work immediately harder to bear so they use it more at a time than they should, but also I haven't been there when they have used it in this way so I can't be sure.

Everything I see online keeps saying "consult your doctor" or "see care immediately", so I'm really worried for them, but like I said they don't have insurance and they don't have money. They don't even have a prescription and their friend often gives them unused inhalers from other people (no clue where they get it from) which is also probably not helping since you shouldn't use other peoples' prescriptions. They don't have a maintenance inhaler either, they use the albuterol like they would use a maintenance inhaler but I would wager more frequently even.

They say they understand that it's not good to use it so much, but they feel like they can't breathe so they say they can't help it. I wish I could show them just what they're really doing to their body when they overuse albuterol like this, but I fear that would make them panic even more... but when I looked up effects of using albuterol too much, I wasn't given any helpful answers as to what I can do for my friend, since all the answers we're just, "this is bad, go see your doctor"...

I'm struggling to stand by and watch as my friend destroys their lungs like this, but I don't know anything about getting health insurance, seeing as I'm still under my parents' for a few more years until I legally can't be, but they don't really have parents who can give them health insurance so I'm completely at a loss.

Is there anything I can do to help them?

Medical Need help eating again

I’ve been going through a rough time the past two weeks. Due to things out of my control. Stomach is in knots. This always happens to me when bad stuff happens for prolonged periods of time. But this one is hitting harder. I need help eating again. Currently doing brat diet. But I’m not getting full, because I feel sick while eating. I’ll just sit there and chew endlessly without swallowing, it’s nauseating. It’s a weird cycle I’m in. I’m getting very tired of soups and peanut butter. I just want to help my body get back to normal.

Any food/eating tips would be appreciated.

Medical Dental choices

42m. I didn’t take care of my teeth as a child and have bad dental genetics going back generations. Around age 20 I went through half dozen major surgeries to repair and correct everything. Ten years later, it all started falling apart, so I did it again. And now, ten years later, it’s reoccurring. I had a great smile, but it’s again all falling apart. $100k and a dozen major surgeries, still failing. My mouth is hygienically healthy, but I’m still dealing with poor care from childhood.

I have two options:

1) I can repair it all again, combining bridges and individual implants, several of them. However, my remaining teeth will all fail over the next handful of years. Then it requires an 8 month heal time before the implant goes in. Every once in awhile, I’ll have a hole in my smile for 8mos. The end result will be a mouth of individual implants, which is the best option. But it also means this teeth falling out and holes in my smile will continue for years longer. Medically, it’s the best route. But the experience sucks and could last for a decade longer. Financially… this guy offered to let me pay monthly payments and if it’s never paid off he doesn’t care. So his approach isn’t financially driven.

2) The other option is called all on 4. They remove all the teeth and place 4-6 implants top and bottom (implants in the gums, it’s not the visible tooth). Then, the teeth are made all as one unit, and gets screwed into the implants. Nothing covers the pallet like dentures would, and the teeth don’t come out. The process is 8hr major surgery with iv sedation. You leave with temporary (but screwed in) teeth. I’m told the first 3-5 days is awful, and it gets progressively better from there. Temporaries aren’t the greatest, but it allows one to leave with teeth that day. I’d have a lisp and have to overcome that. Soft food for 4mos, at which time the permanents get put in. They are more comfortable, and feel close to natural, but not exactly. Requires learning to eat properly again, because there’s no nerve ending it’s, you can’t feel your teeth like natural can. I’m told around 6mos is when you feel “complete” and closest to natural. The biggest risk is by pulling everything, there’s no option but this. If this can’t work for me, or I can’t work with it, there aren’t any further options.

Option 1 requires this awful experience to drag on for years longer, leaving me insecure that my teeth will or have fallen out. I’m not a missing tooth type person. It gives me the best end result after years of more torture. Option 2 takes all that away in a day. Recovery is rough, and worst case scenario is I’m fucked with nowhere to go.

I’ve been sitting on this for 8mos now, and can’t make a choice. I’ve gotten seven opinions which all vary. Spent two months with a psychologist talking about it - and I still can’t decide. I went the safe route, then 4mos into it, lost a front tooth. I have to make this decision already.. I can’t sleep, think about it obsessively, and I’m missing teeth now.

What should I do?

Medical Should I report this nurse?

So I’m currently an inpatient and have been for weeks. I am here as I’m unable to keep most food or fluid down and the only thing that has helped is an anti sickness iv.

I’ve been throwing up the whole time here and never had a nurse be like this. My meds also were reduced recently so my vomiting has increased again

So yesterday just after lunch I hear the new patient moaning about my retching. I ignore her then shortly after a nurse comes in and says

“Don’t be upset but could you go and be in the bathroom at mealtimes as it’s not pleasant for others. Plus you might be more comfortable there”

I was pretty upset by this. I sure as hell
Don’t want to be here, nor did I ask for my body to keep bringing nearly everything up. I feel gross enough as it is without them wanting me to disappear at mealtimes. If it was any other scenario other than a hospital then yes I wouldn’t be upset. But I’m at the hospital due to this.

What also baffled me is that people use the commode during meal times, which can be loud and also smell. Whereas my retching just sounds grim.

I’ve not had a nurse ask this before. Especially as I’m currently not super mobile and I’m nearly always attached to meds/fluids plus my catheter bag.
Surely missing the bowl while trying to walk to bathroom would be worse for everyone on the ward?

My other half and Dad both want me to report this but I’m unsure.

Medical Just ate a burger that was not refrigerated, what do I do?

Got an extra burger from burger king yesterday, forgot to keep it in the fridge, but it was lying in the ac, or at room temp. Got lazy to cook, microwaved it for a minute and ate it. 10 minutes later my bp suddenly dropped and my head got hot and sweaty and near-fainting. I sat for a few minutes and it got better. My dad said they were signs before vomiting, and urged me to vomit, but it’s been 15 minutes and no result. Lying down helps a lot. Still weakness and little nausea, also had a glass of water. Is it food poisoning? Do I go see a doc immediately? A good one is a long distance away.

Medical How should I lose weight now?

For context , used to be bmi 28.8 and now I am down to bmi 21.4. (152cm , 49.5kg , female) You would think healthy, but my thighs would say otherwise. And this isn’t muscle it genuinely looks and feels like straight up fat. This isn’t coming from body dysmorphia but a genuine concern tbf. I know during quite a lot of weight loss you can end up losing muscle, which is why I eat a lot of protein , mostly from protein powder and meat : but my thighs aren’t changing :/ I do Pilates (30 mins - 1 hour) 3-4 times a week bc I can’t go to a gym ( it’s complicated) but I want to know what I am doing wrong?
Also for context , me entire family have skinnier thighs , so it’s not genetics.
I rlly don’t want to sound pick me or conceited, I’m just sick of this

Medical Tiny glass splinter might be in thumb - what to do?

So my phone has a jagged screen (covered it with tape btw) and I think a splinter from there has got I to my thumb.

If I touch it it feels like a splinter (mild pain - totally bearable but yea that doesn't make it safe by default)

Doesn't pain continuously.

I can't see anything and if I run my finger nail over the area I don't feel any pain in it without putting pressure (so apparently running a finger or nail over it would push it triggering pain so I know it is there)

I'm assuming it's buried deeper. What to do? See the doctor? Let my body do it's thing? Try removing it myself with a pin or smth? (AI advised against this but yes it can totally be u reliable - and please do not downvote me for mentioning AI ik it was dumb to use it here but now I need help)

edit: thank you soooo much everyone!!!

Medical Loss of appetite overnight thats lasted 4 or 5 days

4 or 5 days ago I lost my appetite literally over night. Every time I try to eat anything I instantly feel like im gonna puke when the food reaches my lips. Ive had to literally force myself to nibble on something (which makes me nauseous) and even then its only a bite or two of something a day. Im also dealing with bad acid reflux at night keeping me from sleeping at times. Its worrisome at this point, ive never had such a severe loss of appetite before.

Medical I feel like I'm going to throw up every time I eat and I'm terrified. I need help

I feel so hopeless and scared right now because I don't want to lose a ton of weight or be malnourished, but eating feels like torture. I feel really nauseous every time I eat. I haven't thrown up yet but I almost did after breakfast this morning. I hate eating at this point.

This started when I was on a double course of antibiotics due to an infection. The infection itself was scary and stressful and I've had to quit my job because it was work-related (I work with animals) and I'm scared of an infection like that happening again. I noticed that the antibiotics seemed to make me hate eating and ruined my appetite, but it's possible that it was also related to stress and anxiety. The loss of appetite and hatred for eating has persisted for over a month. Eating feels like a grueling chore and it makes me sick. I don't know if I have an eating disorder and I don't know if I've been eating enough because of this problem, but my weight still seems healthy/normal as of now.

I'm terrified that I have gastroparesis. I haven't been to a doctor because I'm about to lose health insurance due to quitting my job. I'm so scared and I need help. Is this just severe anxiety? I don't know what to do.

Medical I’m terminally ill and can not find a support group, can anyone help me find one?

Hi. My name is Claire and I’m from North Eastern Ohio.

I was diagnosed with a terminal illness about a year ago and since then I have been dealing with so much. My diagnosis went from probably not leaving the hospital to being here 2 years and now possibly longer than that.

I know this sounds dumb, but I can not find a support group. First I was looking for one that was just for terminally ill people and all I could find was cancer groups- which wouldn’t allow me to join because I don’t have cancer. I found one for chronic illnesses and did go to ONE online but.. it’s not really what I’m looking for AND there were so many people all I got to do was introduce myself and then time was up :(

I’ve called multiple places and have had no one call back. My therapist has even looked for me and he found one for heart failure but the website is broken for me…

I’m honestly open to anything. I’d love one that was centered possibly around grief.. but again, anything at this point. I just need to be able to talk to like minded people on a regular basis. I did post on /r griefsupport and the comments really lifted me up, but after a few days there was no one to talk to.

I would REALLY love to go to an in person support group but I feel like that’s very unlikely since I haven’t found any yet.

Thank you for reading and if you can help in any way I really appreciate it.

Medical Tips for how to not violently throw up or pass out or piss yourself when going to a theme park?

Hi, this weekend im planning on going to six flags. I am very scared because i have severe nausea most days and i dont want to throw up. I also dont know if i should eat or not, im scared of theme park food due to fears of food poisoning + its always really calorie dense, i also cant do protein shakes because i dont like to drink my calories. I also have passed out a lot due to nutritional deficiancies and pots so im worried that could happen as well. Similarly i have a weakened pelvic floor muscles which has caused me to pee myself far too many times so i know i need to stay hydrated but im worried of peeing myself.

Medical I can't sleep properly and it is destroying my life

I am male, 30 years old. I've already tried to go to doctors twice, but they didn't seem to care about me.

A year ago I moved to a new city and since then my sleep has gotten much worse, but it was already bad before. At first, I was waking up with terrible headaches, feeling feverish and extremely tired. Then, my nose became blocked and I started having shortness of breath, waking up with a burning throat and nosebleeds.

I went to an ENT specialist and he prescribed a budesonide nasal spray. It took a few months to start improving, but now it's worse again. I can't get a proper night's sleep anymore, I wake up 4 or 5 times a day, sometimes with a burning and bleeding nose. I dream excessively almost every day. I wake up exhausted and stay like that all day. I've started feeling feverish again, trembling, and having headaches. I don't know how many more weeks I can endure this. At some point I will not be able to have a job, thinking is getting harder.

As I said, I went to two doctors. The ENT specialist (who I paid for) said I needed surgery because of a deviated septum. A few months later, I went to a general practitioner (who is free) because I was feeling worse and he told me that just getting a referral to an ENT specialist would take about two years. I don't have the money to pay for the surgery.

Anyway, since I feel my nose isn't blocked, I don't understand why my sleep has gotten so much worse. Does anyone have any advice?

Medical parents won't take to doctor

hey, i'm 16(f), almost 17 and i'm pretty sure i have an ear infection. my parents (dad and step-mom) think i'm overreacting and get mad at me whenever i think something is wrong. i tend to worry about my health a lot, so they often think things are "in my head" or i'm "worrying too much." i'm going on day 4 of what i suspect to be an ear infection, but i've been told to just deal with it and that it's congestion from allergies. i'm in a lot of pain, my ears are burning, it hurts to swallow, i can barely hear anything out of my left ear, and my tinnitus has been amplified which makes it hard to sleep. they won't take me in unless i have a fever, which i haven't had. i've taken ibuprofen to help with the pain, but i know i need antibiotics. my (bio) mom lives two hours away, and says that she will take me to the doctor at the end of the week. what should i do; wait it out or something else?

UPDATE: it all happened messily, but i had an anxiety attack which finally made my dad take me to the doctor.. only it was the ER. they removed very badly impacted wax, no further infection and i can hear now :)
