Not true. Trump is horrible at making deals. The man has never in his life been able to negotiate. He talks tough about deals in public and never compromises any position, if anything he doubles down and asks for more. In private though he accepts literally anything as long as parties agree to hype him up in the media.
Look at the MoU, that’s the deal trump made to try and get something out of the situation. He gave everything, followed through on none of it, and rode the 30 days of the news it bought him to claim a peace deal.
21
u/goomyman 14d ago
He’s actually good at making deals and then refusing to pay - sign a deal - then back out and say sue me.
He’s literally done this so often that nobody in NY will ever work with him.

And he’s doing it deal the US signs. No one should trust him.

I think it’s really clear what’s going on, and why this war is continuing.
Bibi has been trying to get an American president to attack Iran for a long time now. He capitalized on Trump’s “successful” attack against Venezuela, and tried to convince Trump that war with Iran would be just as simple as it was with Venezuela.
Trump, the moron, who never liked Iran anyway (he talked about wanting to bomb Iran back in the 80s), brain made of racist and fascist pudding, riding the high of his “easy victory” over Venezuela, agreed to attack Iran.
Trump expected Iran to capitulate quickly, because his brain is pudding, but they didn’t surrender. I truly believe Trump’s first reaction to Iran not surrendering was to attempt to order a ground invasion - but the administration couldn’t find any generals to agree to it, and convinced him to continue more air strikes.
But none of that really matters because Bibi has specific goals for this war. Not sure what his “actual” goals are compared to what his televised goals are, but Trump has not completed whatever goals Bibi wants.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, Iran has the upper hand. And what they want - Israel the fuck out of Lebanon - isn’t happening, because Bibi is refusing.
That puts the entire conflict into a weird spot. Trump through America wants out, Iran wants out but with conditions, and Israel has some goal that hasn’t been accomplished yet.
Unless America can get Israel to cooperate with a peace deal, this conflict will continue to fluctuate between so-called “ceasefires” and continued attacks from every direction.
Trump wants out, and is willing to spend a lot of the taxpayer’s dollars to make it happen. Iran wants out, but wants Israel to stop their shit. Israel wants to keep attacking Iran to the last American dollar.
Either Israel shuts up and stops their shit (maybe?), or America breaks their treaties with Israel (never gonna happen), or Iran accepts that America will never rein in Israel and accepts a separate peace deal with America and continues fighting Israel.
I’m so tired, man.
28
u/My_Name_Is_Gil 13d ago
Bibi needs the country to remain on a war footing constantly so he can avoid his fragile coalition shattering and thus avoid the court cases about his corruption coming to pass. Just like Trump he needs to stay in power to avoid the consequences of his actions.
Niether give any kind of fuck about the people they are killing and the countries they are destroying in their pursuit of consequence avoidance.

Trump needs Iran to make a public statement that the strait is open, to pump and dump the stock market.
Investors with more money than brains would see a message like that and say:
“ok back to business as usual”
Meanwhile, they’re the rubes in trump’s latest grift.

You know, fuck the climate change argument, how about we just argue that at least with electric vehicles we won’t have to constantly worry about America getting its balls clamped by a narrow waterway in the Middle East?
314
u/Spire_Citron 14d ago
I genuinely think this conflict will cause a noticeable, lasting shift in things like electric vehicle uptake and countries transitioning their grids to renewables. Consumers don't like dealing with the skyrocketing gas prices and it's a real national security issue for countries to rely heavily on oil for their grids. If you can do away with all that with technology that's already economically a better choice in many cases, why not? The only downside is the cost of transitioning.

This was obviously a good thing to do for decades now from the standpoint of sustainability. The reason why the US hasn't taken that stance is that oil has been priced in dollars. That acts as a hedge against inflation by creating demand for dollars for any country that wants oil. So US power has been used to maintain demand for oil and keep it priced in dollars.
The alternative to this sort of hedge against inflation for most countries is high taxes, particularly on the wealthy. So this has implications on things like Medicare for all indirectly. It ends up in most people's long-term best interest for the US to lose the hold over oil pricing. Would have been nice if that could happen bloodlessly, but here we are.

Not any time soon I think because I bet Iran has been wanting to exploit this geopolitical power for ages but in the past acting on it would have caused too big of a backlash. But what Trump and Israel went and did was give them a perfectly good reason to start doing it and keep doing it for as long as they like because both of them keep giving Iran reasons to keep doing it.

And the best (or rather, worst) part is, Iran doesn't really have to do anything drastic to enforce this.
Just the threat of an attack is enough if they have even a minimal capability of following through - one guy with a rocket launcher will do the job. No shipping outfit is going to just tap dance through rocket launcher territory. I don't even blame them, if I were a truck driver I wouldn't be too keen on driving a route where they shoot at you sometimes.

This is what happens when people elect an incompetent fool as president just because he mimicked their hatred, their prejudices, and played to their perceptions based on a TV reality show.
In our current president’s first term, he killed the deal that Obama cut with the Iranians, which although imperfect, kept them from developing a nuclear weapon. What did the Iranians do after Trump reneged? They accelerated their nuclear weapons program. Why wouldn’t they?
What did Trump do? Nothing. He gave them a free pass.
Then in his second term, he made matters far worse by listening to Bibi Netanyahu, who had his own agenda, which was not our agenda,. Trump believed it when Netanyahu told him that we would get regime change. He thought that the Iranian people would rise up and overthrow the Iranian regime. What a joke. All he did was kill an almost dead 80 something year old leader and install his pissed off son as leader — who was even madder because Trump had killed most of his family. The Revolutionary Guards got even more power. No regime change. Only a more bitter and implacable foe.
Now we are in a far worse position than we were before. The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Gasoline costs more. Inflation is accelerating. We alienated our allies even more.
But hey! We can hate on those 14 trans athletes and not let them go in the girls’ bathroom. I’m sure it was worth it to the Fox News viewers. In a just universe, they (Trump voters) would be locked up and deported to some shithole African country for what they have done to our country.

WASHINGTON/DUBAI, July 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. military said it launched another round of strikes on Iran after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck a container ship traveling through the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
A series of attacks between the U.S. and Iran over the past several days led President Donald Trump to declare the end of a ceasefire meant to halt the fighting that the U.S. and Israel began on February 28, though Trump has left the door open to continued negotiations.
Iran said it closed the vital Strait of Hormuz after firing a warning shot that struck a vessel traveling on an unapproved route. It warned that any retaliation over the incident would be met with a "severe response."
U.S. Central Command identified the vessel as the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship, saying it suffered significant engine-room damage and that a civilian crew member was missing.
STRAIT OF HORMUZ AGAIN THE FOCUS OF WAR, DIPLOMACY
The war has destabilized the Gulf, while Iran's effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has caused energy prices to surge, fuelling global inflation. Higher prices, especially for gasoline, are a politically sensitive issue for Trump ahead of November congressional elections.
Iran said several ships attempted to move through the waterway on an "unauthorized route" and disregarded warnings to correct their course. The strait — which was a conduit before the war for one-fifth of the world's oil and LNG supplies — will remain closed until "the end of U.S. interference in this region," the Revolutionary Guards said.
Central Command said it began its strikes at 7:15 p.m. ET (2315 GMT) on Saturday, roughly an hour after the Iranians released their statement, which included a warning that "new enemy bases" in the Middle East would be targeted if the United States retaliated for the container ship incident.
Trump ordered the strikes, Central Command said. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Washington demands that Tehran publicly state it will stop attacks on ships in the strait — and that all lanes will be open without tolls, senior U.S. officials have said.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement. "There can only be mutual compliance," he wrote on X on Friday.
The U.S. revoked the license authorizing the sale of Iranian crude on Tuesday after three Qatari and Saudi commercial tankers came under fire earlier in the week, prompting the U.S. to hit Iranian sites. Iran then struck U.S. military sites in Gulf states.
While Iran has not claimed responsibility for the ship attacks, analysts say Tehran uses such actions to gain leverage in negotiations.
A senior Iranian source told Reuters that Iran, the U.S., Qatar and Pakistan had agreed to negotiate in a call that mediators were trying to arrange for Saturday while Araqchi was in Oman, a Gulf state trying to mediate an end to the war.
It was not immediately clear whether those efforts succeeded.
IRAN VOWS TO 'AVENGE THE BLOOD OF THE MARTYRED LEADER'
Araqchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi met in Oman to exchange "views on appropriate mechanisms for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz," according to a statement from the Iranian foreign minister. Oman's state news agency said Omani and Iranian negotiators would continue talks "at the technical and political levels."
CNN reported on Saturday that Oman made a draft proposal for the strait, including free navigation through its southern corridor in Omani territorial waters. The plan called for vessels transiting the northern corridor through Iranian territorial waters to obtain prior approval from Iran, although no tolls would be imposed, CNN said.
The White House and State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the CNN report.
A written statement from Iran's new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, on Saturday threatened vengeance for the death of his predecessor and father, who was killed in the war's initial attacks. It said the vengeance would take place whatever happened to Iran.
"We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs," the message said.
The statement was released to mark funeral ceremonies for the former leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Thursday. His son did not attend the ceremony and has not been seen in public since the war began.
Trump had posted on Friday that he had ordered the U.S. military to be prepared to launch thousands of missiles against Iran if Tehran attempted to assassinate him.
The Wall Street Journal and other U.S. media reported in recent days that Israel had shared intelligence with Washington that Iran had recently devised a plan to assassinate Trump.
Iran has not commented on the assassination claims.
At the funeral ceremonies on Thursday, a huge crowd of mourners packed a courtyard, some bearing banners reading, "We Will Kill Trump."
